The humiliating denouement to America’s involvement in Yemen came over the weekend, when U.S. Special Forces were forced to evacuate a base from which they had operated against the local branch of al Qaeda. This is the same branch that claimed responsibility for the January attack on Charlie Hebdo and has long been considered to pose the most direct threat to Europe and the United States.

So who should Barack Obama be declaring war on in the Middle East other than the state of Israel?

There is an upside-down quality to this president’s world view. His administration is now on better terms with Iran—whose Houthi proxies, with the slogan “God is great, death to America, death to Israel, damn the Jews, power to Islam,” just deposed Yemen’s legitimate president—than it is with Israel. He claims we are winning the war against Islamic State even as the group continues to extend its reach into Libya, Yemen and Nigeria.

“Peace for Our Time,” announced a proud Neville Chamberlain after placing the Czechoslovaks in Hitler’s foaming bite, one he relaxed only to spit threats of European war and anti-Jewish genocide. “Peace in our time” promised Barack Obama in his inaugural speech of 2013. History may not repeat itself, but it does rhyme. Obama prepares already the signature that will normalize the nuclear program of terrorist Ali Khamenei, ‘Supreme Leader’ (official title) of Iran, and would-be emulator of Hitler’s crime against the Jews.

Santayana was right: lest we understand history we are doomed to repeat it. So let us interrogate this history and find the rhymes to grasp our moment: How could Chamberlain vault over public opinion to commit his diplomatic barbarities? Historians have answered this already.

“Israel must be wiped off the map.”

In The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich (1960) William Shirer remarked that the Times of London, “This great journal, one of the chief glories of English journalism, …play[ed]… a dubious role in the disastrous British appeasement of Hitler.” How so? By raising the Führer’s prestige every time he interrupted his violent tantrums to communicate his commitment to ‘peace,’ promised always in return for some license (to reoccupy the Rhineland, rearm Germany, absorb Austria, consume Czechoslovakia…).[1] This media barrage gave Chamberlain cover when he repeated each time—another time—that Hitler could be ‘appeased.’

The Palestinians continue to prefer not to establish a state if it involves recognition of Israel as the nation-state of the Jewish people.

“Zionism began as a foreign entity and will end as a foreign entity,” Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas wrote in the concluding chapter of the 2011 edition of his book “Zionism: the Beginning and the End,” which appears on his website.

The book, which was first published in 1977, goes on to say that Zionism initially appeared to be a decree of fate, but now fate has determined its end. “The Palestinians and the Jews will see to it that it is eliminated so that we can later live as we lived before it, in a wide open homeland full of good for everyone, spreading … goodness, affection and equality over everyone.”

Nevertheless, many people are of the opinion that the conflict with the Palestinians centers around the question of continued Israeli control over territories captured in 1967. They choose to ignore the fact that from the standpoint of the vast majority of Palestinians, the conflict is over the very existence of a nation-state for the Jewish people.

In light of Iran’s increasing physical presence and influence in Arab countries, particularly in Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, and Yemen, there has been a proliferation of voices in the anti-Iranian Arab camp arguing that the Iranian presence in those four countries constitutes occupation and that action must be taken to prevent Iran from occupying additional countries.

Despite a stacked deck, Israel is girding itself and is well-prepared for a showdown in the International Criminal Court.

The Palestinian Authority is far more confident than it was just a few short weeks ago about its diplomatic offensive. With tensions at a purportedly unprecedented level between Jerusalem and Washington, Mahmoud Abbas might think he will get a silent or even overt go-ahead from the United States to pursue its recognition campaign. But the gambit to join the International Criminal Court (ICC) might be the PA’s Achilles’ heel.

“The ICC is a special situation because the US itself doesn’t believe in the court and doesn’t want the court to determine Palestinian statehood,” says Nitsana Darshan-Leitner, Director of Shurat HaDin – Israel Law Center. “They don’t want to strengthen the court.”

The Palestinians’ major threat diplomatically is bringing Israel to court with charges of war crimes. In order to join the court, ‘Palestine’ has to first be recognized as a state. But the ends do not justify the means for the United States, which itself has also avoided joining the court to avoid public prosecution – and scrutiny – for its own military operations around the world.

Why is the Obama Administration reportedly threatening to support a United Nations resolution calling on Israel to retreat to the pre-1967 armistice lines?

This would be President Obama’s way of punishing Israel’s voters for choosing a government that is not to Obama’s liking – and would be intended to intimidate Israel and its supporters to give in to Arab territorial demands.

The White House must think we have very short memories. Recall this headline from the New York Times from 2011: “Obama Sees ’67 Borders as Starting Point for Peace Deal.”

Bayit Yahudi joined Yisrael Beytenu’s years-long call to adopt a law under which ministers would stop serving as MKs.

The “Norwegian Law,” based on the model of the Scandinavian country’s government, requires each minister to be replaced in the legislature by a candidate from his or her party’s ballot. If the minister is fired or resigns, he or she would reclaim a place in the Knesset and the substitute would no longer be a lawmaker.

Yisrael Beytenu has been calling for the “Norwegian Law” to be instated since the party’s inception, and six months ago changed its regulations to require all of the party’s ministers, except for its chairman, to resign from the Knesset.

“We’re happy Bayit Yehudi is joining our initiative,” said Yisrael Beytenu’s spokesman Tal Nahum.

The current story in the Wall Street Journal (Israel Spied on Iran Nuclear Talks With U.S. By ADAM ENTOUS -see below) alleging Israeli spying on the nuclear talks with the P5 +1 which is attributed to “unnamed, high-level, White House officials” is despicable. It is intended to further delegitimize Israel and justify the vendetta being conducted by  some of your staff and other White House political advisers against Israel in the guise of criticizing Prime Minister Netanyahu.

1st, it  is absolutely  correct that the United States spends an inordinate amount of intelligence resources spying on Israel. This spying  is  “justified” by these unnamed officials as being required to push back against Israeli spying on United States. You and I both know that this is completely false. Recently Israel clandestinely struck at Hezbollah missiles being transported from Syria to Hezbollah while these missiles were in Syrian territory. The Israelis did not acknowledge the strike. The Syrians did not acknowledge the strike. US intelligence leaked the fact of the strike in order to embarrass the Syrians into taking actions against Israel. Another example, Israel obtained landing rights in a predominantly Muslim country. This was leaked by the US. There are many other examples of which both you and I are well aware.

Obama is simply using the Netanyahu’s re-election as an excuse to execute one of his cherished goals.

POTUS (the President of the United States) is pouting over the re-election of PM Netanyahu. He withheld his congratulatory phone call to Netanyahu for two days. By comparison, Obama called Iran’s Rouhani immediately, perhaps even before the polls closed. Netanyahu received the al-Sisi treatment, another leader who is disfavored by the White House and received the two-day delayed phone call.

There is something perversely delightful in observing the irrational anger in the administration and among Jews on the far left of the political spectrum on Israel’s election results. Granted, millions of dollars were wasted trying to unseat Netanyahu and augment the vote the Israeli Arabs – some of that, disgracefully, US taxpayer dollars. Watching another’s tantrum is often amusing and it doesn’t seem to abate. The commentators and activists who hide their anti-Israel animus behind their Jewish genes – the Friedman’s, Klein’s and J Street’s of the world – are nearly apoplectic.

Those who call for the establishment of such a state, which, everyone knows, would become a Hamas state, like in Gaza, are behaving like hysterics. The events in the Middle East and the world, as well as the presence on our borders of organizations supported by an Iran in the process of becoming nuclear, do not change their opinions. They just repeat the empty and illogical slogan that the establishment of that country – without admitting that it would be a Hamas state – is
the only way available for Israel. The people with delusions of peace try to relax us by saying that if it becomes clear that the experiment of a Palestinian state fails, we could, at any time, go in and “straighten things out”.

Yet another Obama administration thrust in its campaign to stigmatize Binyamin Netanyahu and the newly elected Israeli government came Tuesday, March 24, in the form of a pejorative leak to The Wall Street Journal.

“Israeli intelligence was eavesdropping on closed-door nuclear negotiations between Iran and the US and other world powers, then passing the classified information along to the US Congress to try and preemptively scuttle the deal, The WSJ reported, adding from its unnamed sources: “It’s one thing for the US and Israel to spy on each other. It is another thing for Israel to steal US secrets and play them back to US legislators to undermine US diplomacy.”

Citing the spy-versus-spy rivalry often operating behind the scenes of US-Israel relations, the paper reports that, in fact, the White House discovered Israel had an inside track on the talks by snooping on communications among Israeli officials.

BEWARE OF LEFTISTS

Former Minister of Education Shai Piron, with Yesh Atid, speaking at a conference at the Kibbutzim College, expressed his support to include the “Nakba” as part of the general Israeli educational curriculum, Army Radio reported. Piron said the quote in the report was taken from recordings of a conversation he had with teachers at bi-lingual school, who asked him his opinion in the matter.

Piron responded by saying that though the Nakba narrative should be taught to all Israeli students, the ‘settler narrative’ must be taught alongside it.

T. Belman. American Jews showed their disdain for Israel and Zionism when they voted twice for Obama. Now there are showing their disdain for democracy. But who cares.  They’ll be gone in two generations, by choice.

This happens every time the Israeli electorate decides to elect a government that is right of center.

It happens every time an Israeli Prime Minister does something that does not bode well with the political affiliations of American Jews.

When Ariel Sharon was elected in 2002, The Guardian reported that “Sharon divides world’s Jews”. When PM Ehud Olmert visited President Bush in the White House in 2006, the Jewish Forward editorialized that “for American Jews, this was one visit by an Israeli prime minister that drove home the distance between the two great Jewish communities, not their closeness”.

Today, the electoral victory of Binyamin Netanyahu is igniting headlines and editorials with the same tone. Jews dislike the fact that he was elected, and they dislike his statements and actions. Once again, talk of “distance” is the talk of the Jewish town.

As parties gear up for coalition negotiations, they’re not only preparing to demand portfolios; there are policies they want to make sure the next government pushes forward.

Nearly all of the parties that recommended Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the president plan to ask that the coalition agree to pass certain laws, but what remains to be seen is how many of them will actually end up in the new government’s guidelines at the end of negotiations.

Bayit Yehudi MK Ayelet Shaked said Monday that her priority, policy-wise, is to pass legislation that would require any NGO that receives funding from a foreign country to get authorization from the Finance Ministry, Defense Ministry and Knesset Finance Committee to do so.
