D.C. Swamp-Dwellers Say It Doesn’t Matter Who Wins the Presidency

Peloni:  Winning the election will only be the beginning of the battle against the Deep State.

They’ll Do What They Want

If he is reelected this November, will Donald Trump manage to drain the swamp this time? The swamp-dwellers are saying no.

Ever since he began his first run for president, Trump has famously vowed to drain the swamp, that is, clear out the far-left bureaucracy in Washington that bears so much responsibility for the leftward drift of the nation over the last decade and a half.

In his inaugural address on Jan. 20, 2017, Trump announced:

Another Chernobyl in the Making?

Peloni:  It would take a certain form of insanity for Ukraine to attack a nuclear power plant which, if successful, would render the water flowing into Ukraine toxic.  This scenario would make more sense if those who made the decision to authorize the attack were in fact not concerned with the outcome of a successful attack, but that would mean the authorization came from some group other than Ukraine, which would hardly require a leap of logic to guess who that might be.  In any event, the use of one or four bombs to attack the plant seems obviously intended to be more of a threat than a serious undertaking, so perhaps the attack on the nuclear plant was intended to divert Russian assets away from the Ukrainians as they continue their raid…perphaps.

The Kursk Nuclear Power Plant was attacked, but how is mysterious

Stephen Bryen | Weapons & Strategy | August 23, 2024

Concrete for the first Kursk 2 reactor is being poured in 2018

Ukraine has tried to attack the Kursk nuclear power plant reinforcing a theory that the Kursk offensive was aimed at creating significant havoc by either capturing or wrecking the Kursk NPP.

The Russian Ministry of Defense reported a single suicide drone attack on the plant.  Russian President Vladimir Putin said that “The enemy tried to strike the Nuclear Power Plant … and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has been informed, and they have promised to visit and send specialists to assess the situation.” The head of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, said he plans to visit the plant during the week of August 26th.

Diplomatic demons of despair vs Israel’s victory

Peloni:  This is a very important article.  Dr. Wurmser is one of the most clear sighted authorities on the evolving situation in Israel, and as Wurmser details, the situation has evolved to Israel’s benefit over the past months.   Israel has significant issues to remedy at each of its borders, and tending to the control of the border in Gaza is what cemented its victory in the South.  It needs to close this chapter and focus its efforts on the borders in the North as well as in J&S.

And let us not overlook the Egyptian border as well.  Recall that the industrial sized tunnels which emerged into Gaza came from Egypt, and the supplies which were shipped through that vast causeway originated from Iran.  Sisi has hedged his bets with the anti-Israel and anti-US camps, but a bit too strongly in the direction of the Iranian camp, and it is to satisfy this relationship with Iran which Sisi has demonstrated the temerity to demand Egypt maintain control over the Philadelphi corridor.  And it is only the pro-Iran camp seated in the US power structure which might find any logic in supporting such an inexplicable solution to the obvious problem which was originated from Sisi having control of Philadelphi in the first place.

In the summer of 2002, I was sent as a US diplomat to assess and correct the damage done by our negotiating team at the end of the 2000 Nuclear non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) review conference. In 2000, the overarching goal within our diplomatic corps was to reach a deal with the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) to expand NPT membership reach universality. So central had this goal become that it became a fixation to the point where the original mission of the NPT was obscured. The  non-Aligned Movement believed self-imposed pressure was so great among Western diplomats to achieve such universality that they could be blackmailed and seduced into shifting the nature of the treaty from its original purpose of controlling nuclear technologies to responsible actors who could use it for peaceful purposes to become instead a disarmament treaty focused on disarming Western nuclear weapons arsenals, undermine Israel, and to establish a goal as well as to eliminate Western structures of missile defense. The vehicle of this attempt was to forward an unrealistic list of demands – which eventually became known as the Thirteen Points under Article VI of the NPT.

Three lessons from the Tel Aviv bombing

Why travel to Tel Aviv, risking capture along the way?

The fumbled suicide bombing in Tel Aviv might sound as if it was just another one of the countless attempted terrorist attacks that fail for whatever reason and are ignored by the international community. But if you look closer, you see that there’s much to be learned from this incident.

Sinwar’s days of reckoning

Hamas has no dignified way out of impending cease-fire deal, and Sinwar must choose between 2 options — both bad for him; Israel can live with terms of deal, but ironically interests of Israel and Hamas coincide where regional war concerned

Brigadier General (res.) Amir Avivi | August 24, 2024

One common motif in folk tales is the story of the villain who is caught in his own trap. Who among us isn’t pleased to hear that scarcely a single step separates Yahya Sinwar, the leader of Hamas, from the pit that he himself has dug?

For the sake of understanding the specific story ahead of us and the alignment of forces on the Mideast chessboard, the newness of the current situation must first be appreciated. The difference before our eyes is that Israeli and US are in agreement regarding all that concerns the ceasefire deal. Thus, essentially for the first time, the two countries are on the same side regarding everything about the nature of the deal. The present deal was first formulated last weekend in negotiations that bridged the gaps between the American and Israeli positions, and the countries agreed on a document that was delivered to Hamas. Now the ball has been passed to Hamas.

Israeli Preemptive Strike on 150 Missile Launchers – Running Thread [closed]

Peloni:  This was an important event, with Israel demonstrating not only that they had the means and skill to inflict a costly price on the enemy, but that they had the political will to do so as well.  In fact, I would argue that this latter aspect was the most important element in this engagement.  Meanwhile the feckless UNIFIL has once again demonstrated for all the world to see their failure to do more than gesticulate in support for their mandate to implement UNSC 1701 and let us not forget UNSC 1559 as well.

As the Democratic National Convention & Mass Protest-fest bursts upon us, it’s time to get some updates out of the way so we can concentrate on whatever moments of eventhood may eventuate this week.

There are quite a few notables to tag, so these will not be in-depth treatments. There are several national security issues, but we’ll start with an economic policy topic that demands urgent treatment, because most commentators are focusing on the wrong thing in discussing it.

They’re focusing on what they understand (very well, to be sure), and not on what we’ll really – really – regret in the long run.

Iran cannot be allowed to make this state of alert the new normal

Iran is trying to force Israel, the US, UK and other countries to be on alert every time the regime desires to gain attention

Seth J. Frantzman | August 22, 2024

Israel has been on alert during the first two weeks of August. Iran’s threats to attack with a multi-front assault, using Hezbollah and other Iranian-backed proxies, has kept the Middle East on its toes.

Each day has brought new reports that Iran could attack in the next 48 hours. The hours have stretched by and become days and weeks.

Iran has claimed it has a right to retaliate because it accuses Israel of killing Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. The Hamas leader was in the city to attend the inauguration of the country’s new president in late July.

The “Villa in the Jungle” is Unsustainable.

by Victor Rosenthal | August 24, 2024

Western elites would like to live in a society based on a derivative of Christian morality, even though most of them have left Christianity behind. They believe that all human beings must be given the same basic rights simply by virtue of being human. They hate violence but believe it should be treated with understanding, and criminal behavior with rehabilitation at best and isolation at worst. For them, revenge is an atavistic act that has no place in civilized society. Honor is something that one pays lip service to, but gaining or losing it has no real consequences. Religion is a private matter that must be subservient to secular authority. Government is based on consent. They aspire to a world run according to these principles, governed by impartial international law and democratic institutions to enforce it. They believe that these values are so obviously superior that social evolution will ultimately bring them to infuse the world, and that opposing ideologies are bound to disappear.

The Unburdened Campaign

Daniel Greenfield | August 24, 2024

“What can be, unburdened by what has been,” Vice President Kamala Harris recites looking into the cameras, into her teleprompter and into the glare of the afternoon sunshine in a swing state.

Unburdened by the laws of her economics, her past track record or reality, anything is possible.

The much mocked phrase has become to her brand what “we are the ones we’ve been waiting for” was to Barack Obama’s 2008 campaign. The twin statements of faith, their awkward construction of both deliberately echoing the cadence of old school preachers and new school gurus, are transformative in very different ways. Where Obama appeared to be offering his followers the opportunity to participate in a new revolution, Kamala offers her supporters the rebirth of forgetting that the old ever existed.

Lebanese filmmaker: ‘Palestinian’ cause is ‘fake’

‘There has never been a Palestinian entity’

In a sane world, Youssef El-Khoury would be president of Lebanon. In this world, the host had to disavow his remarks on the program, or the host and the station could have faced violent reprisals.

AMERICA’S END GAME

Peloni: Gen. Vallely provides a blueprint by which to save America

by MG Paul E Vallely, US Army (Ret) | Aug 20, 2024

Chairman – Stand Up America US Foundation

With the Left making giant strides in its war on America, what is going to become of our country? The answer to this question is we have a choice. Two paths lay before us. One path—the one preferred by the Left—leads to government control, racial and gender strife, economic stagnation, identity confusion, a culture of WOKEness, a weakened military, removal of God from all aspects of daily life, and the loss of our constitutionally guaranteed freedoms.

However, there is another path that beckons us to restore the vision of our Founding Fathers. This path with President Donald Trump promises to again make the United States the most powerful, prosperous, and free nation on earth. It is a vision of a ‘more perfect union’, as eloquently described in the Preamble to the U.S. Constitution:
