Negotiations with Hamas were exposed as hollow farce when six hostages were executed to prevent their rescue – in tunnels built with humanitarian aid provided by the west.

Whereas the Biden administration persists in demanding that Israel negotiate with terrorists who tortured, raped and murdered her citizens, Hamas has been honest about its commitment to jihad and genocide irrespective of negotiations. One need only read its charter to know its objective was never really the creation of a Palestinian state, but the destruction of Israel and extermination of the Jews.

The American view of “the day after” deals exclusively with who will control Gaza after Israel attempts to dismantle Hamas’s military and governing capabilities, creating a path to two states for a two-people’s solution. That scenario unrealistically envisions a ceasefire ending the war and the return of all the hostages. The much more plausible scenario is a Hamas insurgency emerging every night from yet undiscovered tunnels, killing Palestinians who work with any other governing force.

When individuals kill themselves, we look for answers in their DNA, their environments, their personal reactions to feelings of impotent rage, rejection, disappointment, heartbreak, and mental illness.

But how to explain group suicide?  There are numerous examples, going back to 206 B.C., and these relatively recent cases:

• In 1943, in the final phase of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, many of the Jewish fighters besieged in the “bunker” at Mi?a 18 committed mass suicide by ingesting poison rather than surrender to the Nazis.
• In 1945, about 1,000 residents of Demmin, Germany, committed mass suicide after the Red Army had sacked the town.
• In 1978, 918 Americans — including 276 children — ingested cyanide in the Peoples Temple, after being exhorted and compelled to do so by their cult leader, Jim Jones, in Jonestown, Guyana.
• In 1997, 39 followers of the Heaven’s Gate cult in California died in a mass suicide, believing they would travel on a spaceship that followed comet Hale — Bopp.

If the UN were shocked, appalled, and horrified, as it should be, at the prospect of its employees taking part in the Oct. 7 jihad massacre, it would not be demanding immunity for them, but insisting that they be prosecuted. This demonstrates that the UN has no problem with having active and murderous jihadis among its ranks. The United States should withdraw from and defund the UN, and expel it from New York. Israel is preparing the ground in Lebanon to enable a full scale invasion of South Lebanon with intent of occupying it to the Litani R. The Israeli Air Force conducted numerous air strikes against Hezbollah on September 21 and September 22. The strikes capped a week in which Israel has sought to take the initiative on the northern front against the group. After 11 months and more than 8,000 attacks by the Iranian-backed terrorist organization, Israel has shifted from proportional responses to wide-ranging strikes against Hezbollah’s leadership and rocket launchers.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on September 22 that more than 150 warplanes were used in strikes on Hezbollah in over 40 hours of operations. The IDF eliminated Hezbollah commander Ibrahim Aqil and 15 more of the group’s commanders in a strike on September 20. In the wake of that attack, the IDF increased the tempo of strikes for two days. Hezbollah struggled to respond but eventually found its footing on the morning of September 22, launching its longest-range attack in 11 months, targeting sites and communities east of the Israeli city of Haifa. One rocket landed in Kiryat Bialik north of Haifa, causing damage to a number of apartments and wounding several people.
