Florida health officials on Friday, Nov. 4 voted to forbid doctors from providing “gender-affirming care” to minors in the state.

Meeting in Orlando, the Florida Board of Medicine and state Board of Osteopathic Medicine voted 6-3, with five members not present, to ban the prescribing of puberty blockers or hormones and performing of sex-reassignment surgery for children. Minors already receiving the drugs may continue treatment.

Avi Maoz of Religious Zionism’s Noam faction calls for closure of Western Wall egalitarian section if he’s to join coalition, but will support Netanyahu-led government regardless

Avi Maoz, the head of the homophobic Noam party, which ran as part of the far-right Religious Zionism alliance, said Sunday he will condition his entry into the government on the promotion of a law to prevent the teaching of “gender studies” in elementary schools.

In an interview with the right-wing Channel 14, Maoz said that although he had conditions for entering a potential Benjamin Netanyahu-led government, he would in any case support the coalition unconditionally.

She summarizes her bias by saying, “The erosion of liberal democratic principles is my top concern following Election #5, and it was heartening to learn that my perspective is shared by many on the other side of the Green Line.”  What the hell are “liberal democratic principles”?  Wikipedia says “Liberal democracy emphasizes the separation of powers, an independent judiciary and a system of checks and balances between branches of government.” That’s exactly what the Right wants. Its an insult to suggest otherwise.

I. Every time you cross the “Green Line,” the rough boundary separating Israel proper from the territories it has controlled since 1967, you feel “it.”

The population clusters are less dense, roads are less busy and street lighting is not quite as bright. I have travelled this road many times to visit friends who live on the other side.

Over the years, the Green Line has become like an inviolable article of religion among so many instant international law experts. At the end of the Six-Day War – in which Jordan attacked Israel on its eastern border – a ceasefire and terms were negotiated. In haste, on the battlefield, on a scrap piece of paper, a line was drawn with a green magic marker. It was cheap porous paper, the kind that ink seeps through when you write or draw on it.

Summary: The most trusted intelligence officers of Egypt’s President Sisi have confirmed to him that senior army generals were plotting to topple him allegedly in a coup disguised as a public revolution. At the same time, Egyptian activists in exile have been calling for the mother of all revolutions to topple Sisi. They have set November 11th as the day to inaugurate the revolution. Some of those activists are indeed tied to certain elements of Egyptian military intelligence. It is reported that Sisi became frantic after hearing the warning, and has been on a conquest to “identify the traitors”. The call for a November 11 revolution has gained substantial momentum. It is unlikely though that a revolution could topple Sisi unless it received the backing of the Egyptian army itself.

The last time that Israel had a prime minister from the Labor Party was over twenty years ago. Most military recruits were not even born or were in diapers the last time a member of the leftist socialist movement that had ruled the country in a virtually unbroken life of succession for a generation from Ben Gurion to Rabin last headed the country.

The news is even worse now with Labor, which once dominated the legislature of the Knesset, receiving only 4 seats making it the smallest party, below the Muslim Brotherhood’s Ra’am and the Arab Communist Hadash-Ta’al, not to mention the Jewish religious parties and the parties of Middle Eastern and Russian immigrants.

Judaism v democracy in the State of Israel, is a subject that many American Jews have been arguing for decades. I don’t get it. Could a country that has had five elections in less than four years, in which 71% of eligible voters cast ballots, be anything other than a democracy? All citizens of Israel, 18 years or older, are eligible to vote (period)

In the recent November 1 election, the plurality of Israeli voters chose the Likud Party, headed by Bibi Netanyahu, to form a new government. The second most popular party of this bloc is the Religious Zionism Party, which is the proponent of Judaism v capitulation (to those who deny our Zionism). This militant party to the right of the Likud can act as a backstop against caving to outside influencers who don’t credit Israeli sovereignty over its homeland.

Since I first pointed out that The Bibi Camp got 49.5% of the vote, yet 54% of the seats, everyone has been writing about it.

Today TOI published an article in which they explored the turnout:

The first thing to note is that overall turnout actually went up, from 67% in 2021 to 71%. Irrespective of everything else, it is quite remarkable that the Israeli public’s response to election after election is actually to go to vote in greater numbers.

JPOST just published a very long but very interesting article titled The Israeli left has lost more than an election by Haviv Rettig Gur and subtitled “Israel’s left has been in freefall for 3 decades. It didn’t lose ground in the election; it simply woke up to the mismatch between its political institutions and the electorate”

Essentially, he points out that the electorate has been changing for 30 years but the left, Meretz and Labour, didn’t.

In the US, we often read older Democrats say, “I didn’t leave the Democratic Party, it left me.”  which is quite true.

Democratic Party talking points about a supposed threat to democracy from the right may be the cause of the surge in American-Jewish hysteria about Netanyahu’s partners.

(JNS) As far as many American Jews are concerned, this time the Israelis have gone too far. After more than four decades of tolerating, with decreasing patience and growing disdain, Israeli governments that were led by the Likud Party, the results of this week’s Knesset election go beyond the pale for a lot of liberals.

Their angst is not so much focused on the return to power of Benjamin Netanyahu for his third stint as the Jewish state’s prime minister, even though he is widely viewed by many Jewish Democrats as the moral equivalent of a red-state Republican. The panic about the election results is caused by the fact that the Religious Zionist Party and its leaders, Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben-Gvir, will play a leading role in the next governing coalition. The party won 14 seats, making it the third largest in the Knesset and an indispensable part of the majority that Netanyahu is about to assemble.

As Benjamin Netanyahu begins negotiations to form his next coalition, he will have to balance between demands of his ultra-Orthodox and far-right allies.

One challenge for Netanyahu is that while his Likud party won 32 seats, the other potential members of the coalition – Shas, United Torah Judaism and Religious Zionism – collectively won a similar number of seats, making it difficult for Likud to insist on holding senior government portfolios.

Otzma Yehudit leader MK Itamar Ben Gvir is a well-known advocate of increased Jewish rights on Jerusalem’s Temple Mount, where the activities of non-Muslims — including the right to prayer — are strictly limited.

The far-right leader and his party are set to be a crucial part of the governing coalition put forth by Benjamin Netanyahu, in which Ben Gvir is seeking to be public security minister — a role that carries with it authority over Israeli policy on the Temple Mount. As such, what changes might the next government make to arrangements at the incendiary holy site?
