The Western world transformed much of human civilization from a culture of particularism (i.e. tribalism, nationalism, religion) to a culture of universalism — in which a “universalistic ideal” dominates and particularism is viewed as inferior.

Many of today’s institutions are designed around or within universalism, a bias against particularism that (1) produces a colossal waste of talent, energy, and happiness; and (2) leads to lack of meaning and purpose, lack of innovation, and lack of progress. Hyperbole aside, it is one of the great diversity issues of our time.

Like any gambler who is willing to seize on any glimmer of hope that irresponsible betting will be rewarded with an unexpected reversal of fortune, Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid was sounding hopeful this week. The Israeli government that he now leads spent the last year wagering the Jewish state’s security on the idea that better relations with the Biden administration and a decision to downplay differences would influence Washington to finally show some spine and stop appeasing Iran. So, it was hardly unexpected that Lapid would seize on the news that the United States had “hardened” its response to the latest Iranian counter-offer in the talks about renewing the 2015 nuclear deal.

Something has changed in the Mossad.

And that something means the impending Iran nuclear deal will not likely end Israeli covert operations against Tehran.

If at some point in the past, it was content to take orders from prime ministers and be included around the table next to the juggernaut IDF, the spy agency is now taking center stage more often and helping to shape policymakers’ views much more deeply.

Laith Marouf is a Lebanese man living in Canada who has been working as an “anti-racism” consultant for the Community Media Advocacy Center (CMAC) on a project funded by the government of Canada. His antisemitic and racist tweets have now been exposed; they make for instructive reading. As a result, the Canadian government initially asked that the government-funded agency Canadian Heritage, that has been financing CMAC, look into his behavior and the suitability of his continued employment as a CMAC consultant. The government itself then decided – needing no further investigation —  to end its relationship with CMAC and to shut down its “anti-racism project.”

While there is no love lost between former Trump Chief of Staff John Kelly and me, I would be the first to dispute Jared Kushner’s ridiculous claim that Kelly would ever shove a woman, much less the president’s daughter, Ivanka Trump. The grimmer truth here is that Jared and Ivanka did everything within their considerable Javanka powers to neuter a man 25.8.22who, even in the best of circumstances, would have had a tough time excelling in a job that required far more finesse and intelligence than brute force.

That was one of my main beefs with Javanka. It did not matter who was chief of staff. If these two spoiled scions did not get exactly what they wanted in the West Wing during the day, they went straight to the East Wing during the evening to lobby their patriarch.
