Former American ambassador to Israel David Friedman criticized the finalized maritime border deal between Israel and Lebanon, warning that Israeli interests are protected solely by promises issued by the Biden administration.

In a series of tweets Wednesday, Friedman reiterated his criticism of the deal, arguing that the final version of the agreement is still lopsided in favor of Beirut, giving Israel nothing but “a guarantee from the US.”

The newly announced arrangement that theoretically formalizes the maritime border between the two countries removes the threat of war that could have erupted once the extraction begins at the Karish gas field and reduces the overall tension with Hezbollah. The Biden administration can also claim that it managed to bolster Prime Minister Yair Lapid’s standing. Israel may also get some modest revenue from the future development of the potential gas reservoirs north of the newly agreed border.<

T. Belman. Since when were US guarantees worth anything. I wouldn’t have thought that such a deal has anything to do with Israel’s security, so why a US security guarantees needed? I am surprised that security is even mentioned. US can easily give more money to Iran when it signs a deal with them so Iran has more to give Hezbollah. My guess is that doing this deal will cost the current government some support.

Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik told Russia media on Wednesday that issues around the new Gazprom natural gas pipeline could be resolved in as little as two months. He called the infrastructure project one of his most important priorities.

“We believe that we can solve this in the foreseeable future, in a couple of months,” said Dodik, noting that the most important thing is to inaugurate the new government and work to remove the administrative obstacles to the pipeline’s construction.
