M. Diamond. Through much of my life I have thanked my lucky stars for having been born in Canada.  The economic opportunities combined with excellent educational systems, an interesting and variable climate, and a strong values system which I not only benefitted from but attempted to influence in positive ways- all these things and more allowed me to feel not just comfortable with my Canadian identity but proud and excited to be Canadian.   That sense of goodness was enhanced over the years as I looked south to the US, which as the world’s economic leader, and the leader of the West, as well as a challenged internal history, has often had its challenges to deal with.  By comparison we seemed to have the best of all worlds.

And while the US continues to have its challenges,  increased with greater challenges, the evident polarization of the political class as well as much of the native population, along with material challenges of illegal immigration and the like,  my smugness as a Canadian is no longer evident.  I still focus a good deal on the US, as I believe that many of their challenges are our challenges, either now or very soon.  But Canada itself is showing that it needs a good deal of help.   I came across this article by anthropologist and international do-gooder Geoffrey Clarfield which captured by concerns well, and share it with you.  If you agree, and more importantly if you don’t agree, please share your comments… if I get enough of them I will put together a compendium of comments and share them as well.

Note that Clarfield does not actually have a solution to offer at least not in this short article. For my part, the solutions are varied and include a Conservative opposition which provides a reasonable option to the governing Liberals, together with an increasing role of the citizens of the country in responding to that which they know to be wrong or inappropriate.  Not included in the article is a reference to the dramatic increase in acts of Jew hatred in Canada from levels which were already on a per capita basis the highest of any acts of hatred against any ethnic group in the country.  That has me and many others in the Jewish community wondering about where Canada is truly headed.

Yair Lapid proved on Monday that he’s much more than the alternate prime minister and minister of foreign affairs. He is the man who cut through the talk of a new policy regarding Jewish worship on the Temple Mount. It was he who spoke with Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, after Bennett had issued an extraordinary statement hailing the “maintaining of Jewish worship” at the site, and explained that the publication was a mistake. And it was he who then marketed to journalists the message that there is no change to the status quo on the Temple Mount, Bennett’s announcement notwithstanding.

Over two dozen people were killed during the Antifa and BLM protests in 2020.  It is routinely reported that “five people died as a result” of the Jan. 6 disturbance.  This is a totally accurate statement, however, it is still misleading.  Only one of the deceased died as a result of violence.  She was actually murdered by a government official. Relating these deaths allows the media to routinely describe Jan. 6 as a “deadly insurrection” as opposed to the “mostly peaceful” protests by Antifa and BLM.  Prior to Jan. 6, Trump supporters had held dozens of mass rallies without burning cities or murdering people.  This was a major embarrassment for the Deep State.  Media coverage of the Jan. 6 event has been largely successful in minimizing that embarrassment.  This was a major Deep State coup and the planning and execution of this “insurrection” reveals a disturbing relationship between the government and radical groups. The FBI did not only fail to adequately prevent the disturbance, they appear to have actively facilitated it. The FBI and radical leftists are branches of the Deep State.

T. Belman. Excellent review.  I agree entirely. But more must be said. The central character is a hedonist.  She believes in fun and  freedom.  Judaism on the other hand gives meaning to life and values to live by.  No where in this series, as far as I have watched it, does she pit the value of an orthodox life against her valueless unorthodox life.  To her being a hedonist is the be all and end all of life.  In order to vindicate her choices, she finds the need to get others to make the same choices. She can’t go it alone.  Nor can she ignore what orthodox Judaism is about.  She must denigrate it to vindicate her choices.

Beyond the outright lies, it becomes clear during the show that one of its main goals is to pull Jews away from Judaism. Op-ed.

Tierney News: “A new study analyzed nearly 3,000 polls including over 500 national Presidential polls and found that they ALL routinely OVERSTATED support for Democrats by 4%!  Fox News is the worst offender! Their polls are ALL fake.”

Polls do not report on reality, they are used to shape reality.

With all respect to President Biden — my criticisms are never personal but always based on policy — his statement yesterday on the proposals in his $4 trillion spending plan is malarky.

“If we increase the availability of quality, affordable child care, elder care, paid leave, more people enter the workforce,” he said. “These steps will enhance our productivity, raising wages without raising prices. That won’t increase inflation. It will take the pressure off of inflation.”

This is the most perverse economic recitation I can ever recall. His advisers have sold him a bill of goods — that so-called government investment, which is really a progressive euphemism for government spending. His idea is that, indeed, massive social spending without work requirements or employment incentives is somehow going to boost the economy.
