Shin Bet: Attack on Teddy Stadium thwarted

With help of IDF, investigation of Hamas terror cell in West Bank yields mass arrests, uncovers series of plots to attack Israelis.

A Shin Bet operation, with the aid of the IDF, exposed a Hamas terror cell and thwarted its foreign-trained members from executing a number of attacks on Israeli destinations, it was cleared for publication Thursday.

The terrorists were receiving orders from Hamas’ Turkey delegation. During the investigation, more than 30 suspects were arrested; explosive devices, M-16 rifles, and ammunition were confiscated.

The Hamas terrorists were ordered to undertake a number of operations against Israeli destinations in the West Bank, including infiltration attacks, kidnapping attacks, car bombings, an attack on Teddy Stadium in Jerusalem, and an attack on the light rail train in the capital.

The West Bank cell was also tasked with recruiting militants in Jordan to set up further infiltration attacks into Israeli territory.

September thwarted an extensive ring of Hamas military infrastructure in the West Bank seeking to recruit operatives to carry out terror attacks against Israeli sites, including one at Jerusalem’s Teddy Stadium, the Shin Bet cleared for publication on Thursday.

General security service members along with the IDF arrested more than 30 Hamas operatives suspected of involvement in planning attacks against Israelis.

Investigations revealed that some of the operative had been trained abroad and were later deployed to areas in the West Bank to carry out their operations, including one at the Jerusalem soccer stadium.

Other planned operations included attacks on Jerusalem’s light rail, kidnapping Israelis in the West Bank and abroad and penetrating Israeli cities to carry out attacks, according to the Shin Bet.

During searches, guns, ammunition and materials for making explosive devices were uncovered.
