There was a time when Jalal Tagreeb promised to “demolish secularism with the tongue of jihad.” Armed with the unshakeable conviction that Allah had already guaranteed his victory, he styled himself as the Ummah’s answer to Christopher Hitchens—only holier. A man who believed he could not lose.
He lost. Repeatedly. Publicly. Spectacularly.

Each defeat chipped away at the grand façade until nothing remained. In the end, he did what every self-respecting ideologue swears he will never do: he surrendered unconditionally, posted a grovelling testimony on Reddit:
A Former Muslim Apologist’s Statement

and begged the very opponents he had once promised to humiliate not to expose him to his “old” mosque friends.
Yet surrender did not cure the reflexes of jihad. Last week, when Israel National News reported the elimination of Hamas’ spokesman Abu Obaida, Jalal complained that the source was not reliable because it came from Israel—the same complaint he once used against evolutionary biologists and Trinitarian apologists. He demanded “independent confirmation,” apparently unaware that Israeli media have an inconvenient habit of being right about such things. By all means, let us wait for Hamas’ social media channels—double confirmation never hurts. But doubt is no longer possible.
There is a lesson here for every keyboard warrior who believes rhetoric can trump reality. Jihad by word only works when words are never examined; once they collide with the cold steel of evidence, they crumple like cheap tin. Jalal’s serial defeats as a Muslim apologist foreshadowed Abu Obaida’s downfall in Gaza: both relied on controlling the narrative, and both were undone by facts that refused to stay buried. The difference is that Abu Obaida’s end was swift, while Jalal’s was a slow-motion unravelling, played out for the world’s entertainment. The jihad of the tongue, like the jihad of the rocket, ends the same way—in smouldering rubble and a very quiet microphone.
So here we are. The man who once vowed to silence secularists now translates their polemics. The debater who pledged to expose “Zionist lies” now sees his own name on an Israeli news site beneath a headline he cannot delete.
The cage of Jihad: Looking at Islamic apologetics from the inside
The battlefield jihad collapses against Israel’s superior arms and intelligence; the intellectual jihad collapses against the persistence of questions it cannot answer. What was once trumpeted as divine struggle now looks more like human folly—loud, furious, and ultimately futile.
In both forms, the promise of jihad has proved hollow. Its warriors, masked or unmasked, fall silent one by one. Abu Obaida’s voice will not return, and Jalal’s voice, though still audible, speaks only in translation for the very secularists he once vowed to destroy. Jihad promised victory; history delivered failure. And in that contrast lies its true epitaph.
For Hamas, the lesson is no different. Clinging to the fantasy of “resistance” has brought nothing but ruins to Gaza and graves to its own commanders. Every rocket barrage ends the same way: intercepted, retaliated against, and followed by another round of civilian suffering. To persist in this cycle is not bravery; it is vanity at the expense of the very people they claim to defend. Acceptance of defeat would not be dishonour—it would be the first act of honesty in the organisation’s history.
Embracing defeat would mean recognizing that Israel is not going anywhere, that its survival is not a temporary inconvenience but a permanent reality. It would mean abandoning the theatre of martyrdom in favour of the work of rebuilding lives. If Hamas admits that its jihad has failed, it could help Gaza people survive. But as long as it worships defeat disguised as resistance, it will continue delivering only rubble, silence, and broken promises.
Today, we publish this confidently on an Israeli website to show Jalal and others that Israeli sources are reliable. All it took was for the facts to do what facts always do: win.

Wait a minute, are you suggesting the earth is round? Next thing, you’ll be telling me there’s no rabbit in the moon!
Maybe some of Jalal’s friends will send him the link.
@dreuveni
I sent Jalal a link and he has read the article.
@peloni1986
He (Jalal) cannot reply because jihad by word only works when no one answers back — and those days are gone.
Thanks Tim.
