Trump’s action against Muslim Brotherhood leaves its most lethal chapters, from Qatar and Turkey, untouched

Peloni:  Changes with regard to the US outlawing the Muslim Brotherhood in Jordan, Egypt and Lebanon are not without significance, but failing to address the chapters sponsored out of Turkey and Qatar will specifically fail to address the role which the Muslim Brotherhood plays in America.

Trump’s executive order won’t do a thing to counter the influence of the Hamas-linked Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) in the U.S., or that of other Brotherhood-linked entities. The Brotherhood orgs in the U.S. aren’t notably connected to the Egyptian, Lebanese or Jordanian Brotherhood. The Muslim Brotherhood chapters of Qatar and Turkey will be able to continue operating as before.

“Trump Moves Toward Labeling Parts of Muslim Brotherhood as Terrorists,” by Chris Cameron and Edward Wong, New York Times, November 24, 2025:

President Trump signed an executive order on Monday that took a step toward designating parts of the Muslim Brotherhood as foreign terror organizations, which would impose broad travel and economic restrictions, resuming an effort he began during his first term.

The executive order took no immediate action against the targeted chapters, and the full scope of the order was unclear. Mr. Trump instead directed cabinet officials to submit a report and then “take all appropriate action” against parts of the influential Islamist political movement, including against branches located in Egypt, Lebanon and Jordan….

In his executive order, Mr. Trump accused the Muslim Brotherhood in Jordan of having “long provided material support to the militant wing of Hamas.”…

In 2019, Mr. Trump sought to apply the terror designation against the entire Muslim Brotherhood, a political movement with millions of members across the Middle East….

During the deliberations over the designation in Mr. Trump’s first term, some officials argued against it because the legal criteria for designating a terrorist organization are not a good fit for the Muslim Brotherhood, a loose-knit movement with chapters in several countries….

Qatar and Turkey, which have been forging close partnerships with Mr. Trump, both support the Muslim Brotherhood and are opposed to any tough American actions against the movement….

  1. Email received from Janet Levy:

Trump’s recent executive order “against” the Muslim Brotherhood does nothing to address CAIR, which is Hamas in America, as revealed in the 2008 Holy Land Foundation trial, the largest terrorism financing trial in U.S. history. Nor does it deal with Muslim Brotherhood chapters sponsored by his ally Qatar or Turkey.

Remember Trump’s recent EO claiming that an attack on Qatar would be considered an attack on the U.S.? That was a few weeks after Israel justifiably carried out an airstrike in Doha targeting Hamas leadership sheltered by Al-Thani, after which Trump compelled Netanyahu to apologize for killing five high-level Hamas operatives and a Qatari security guard.

Of course, Trump has negotiated a $1.2 trillion economic deal with Qatar and is constructing a golf course along with a villa resort in the kingdom. He has invited Qatar to permanently station its F-15 fighter jets and pilots at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho and to train alongside U.S. forces.

Curiously, Trump’s silence on the widespread Islamization of America—Texas, Michigan, New York, Minnesota, Florida, and others—has been deafening.
