The Wiesenthal Centre issued a major study on the BDS movement and published a major report. Here is the executive summary.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Boycott/Divest/Sanctions (BDS) Movement against Israel was formally launched in 2005, but really began gathering momentum as a result of the Second Intifada of 2000 and the UN’s World Conference Against Racism in 2001.
This Report documents and dissects the BDS’ impact across a broad front of battlefields in the western world. These include economic struggles in corporate boardrooms and among trade unions, BDS’ “academic jihad” against Israel on campuses, the pressure on entertainment and cultural figures to cancel appearances in Israel, and efforts to gain support for BDS from important religious institutions.
BDS claims to be a peaceful movement whose goal is to use “punitive economic means” to pressure Israel to rectify the wrongs done to human rights in the Palestinian territories. In reality, BDS is a thinly-disguised effort to coordinate and complement the violent strategy of Palestinian, Arab, and Muslim “rejectionists” who have refused to make peace with Israel for over six decades, and to pursue a high-profile campaign composed of anti-Israel Big Lies to help destroy the Jewish State by any and all means.
Over and over again—whenever and wherever it emerged—the BDS Movement quickly threw off any trappings of moderate criticism of Israeli policies. Its true essence matches Natan Sharansky’s “three Ds” test for when legitimate criticism crosses the line into anti-Semitism:
FIRST: Double Standards – singling out Israel for criticism while ignoring the more egregious behavior of major human rights abusers in the Arab and Muslim world and beyond.
SECOND: Demonization of Israel – distorting the Jewish State’s actions by means of insidious and false comparisons with the Nazis and/or South Africa’s Apartheid regime.
THIRD: Delegitimization – when Israel’s fundamental right to exist is denied—alone among all nations in the world—this too is anti-Semitism.
-
• BDS claims to be peaceful or to favor “nonviolent punitive measures” (while
refusing to denounce anti-Israel, anti-Jewish violence).
• BDS often downplays its programmatic commitment to the unlimited “right of
return” of millions of Palestinians, not born in Israel but claiming refugee status that would spell the end of the Jewish State.
• BDS ostensibly wants to right the specific wrongs done to Palestinians, yet attacks the foundations of Israel’s entire economy and society: all (Jewish) Israelis are collectively guilty.
• BDS is fueled by and reinforces a one-sided historical narrative denying any responsibility of Palestinian, Arab, and Muslim “rejectionists” for destroying chances for peace and reconciliation—from before Israel’s establishment in 1948, to the 1980 Egyptian-Israeli Peace Treaty, to the 1993 Oslo Accords, to the 2000-2001 Camp David and Wye Summits, to the 2005 Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, and to this very day.
• BDS slanders Zionism and supporters of the Jewish State by falsifying the profound differences between Apartheid South Africa and democratic Israel.
• BDS utilizes—without admitting it—Christian “supersessionist” theological claims that Jews and Israel have lost divine favor because of the Jewish People’s alleged sins and as result Jews no longer have legitimate historic or moral claims to the Holy Land.
What’s the solution? Answer BDS’ Big Lies with cogent arguments and the historical record.

It’s an honour, Canadian Otter. Anytime. I get to hang out with my tough Jewish buddies.
@ Michael Devolin:
Great news. Thank you for the update and for JDL’s presence at the event.
JDL Canada did security for Pamela Geller last night in Toronto and not one Muslim protester showed up across the street. A couple die-hard Left wing newspaper reporters, but that was about it. Maybe because there were about twenty or more JDL Canada members surrounding the building. It was a sold out event. The place was packed on two floors.
@ Don Estes: thank you for clarifying the issue.
Michael Devolin Said:
It is as much the fault of the Euronazis as it is of the Islamonazis. But then, European cities would be reduced to ashes, just like Arab ones.
ArnoldHarris Said:
Mr. Harris:
You are too optimistic. Most Muslims and Europeans live for one thing – to wipe the Jews off the face of the earth. They are frothing, savage Nazis. Nothing else matters to them. They will suffer through nuclear annihilation to achieve it.
Don Estes Said:
Thank you Mr. Estes. At the risk of upsetting you, I must point out however, that the national leadership of the PCUSA is very anti-Israel, and indeed, virulently anti-Semitic. If your congregation itself is indeed pro-Israel, and is also part of the PCUSA, you might wish to consider moving to another Presbyterian denomination that does not align with radical Islamists such as Hamas and Fatah, and other assorted modern day Jew-haters, all under the phony label of “seeking peace.”
As a member and Elder of First Presbyterian Church of Newport, RI, I can confirm that “Reverend Anthony Waugh” or whatever his correct name is–is not a member of our church, does not represent our church, and most important, he does not represent our views on Israel.
Eric, I have thought for some time that the Arabs hate one another with an intensity that sometimes seems greater than their feelings about Jews. Partially, that probably is based on the Sun;a – Shi’a split that goes back to the days immediately following the death of their great prophet. Another factor is that petty military dictators take power in most Arab states, but that civil wars are mounted to get rid of them — quite often successfully. Then the cycle is repeated, almost endlessly. All that provides Israel with numerous opportunities to strengthen itself, sometimes siding with one gang of battling Arabs at the expense of another. “Let’s you and him fight” has always been one of the best strategies for street gangs at one end of the spectrum, and complete countries at the other end.

“the Islamonazis will get the bomb and use it on Israel, consequences to the world be damned. They are that sick and filled with hate”
Yes, they are. And to think the entire world will be made to suffer atrociously because of these religious animals.
@ ArnoldHarris:
You might be ruthless enough to do that, but the type of orthodox nationalist settler that you think is ruthless enough to do that is quite a ways from being a majority. The haredim are of limited influence in this case, because while they do vote, they are still leading a very insular existence and are not in the universities, media and government bureuacracies to shape policy. And a sizeable minority of them are anti-Zionist.
I have read, at least on the internet, Yoram Ettinger. I don’t doubt the general overall growth of Israel’s population (David “Spengler” Goldman cites him occasionally), and they are projecting about 24-25 million by century’s end. Might it be necessary to expel Arabs prior to that? Maybe. But up to 2050, Israel will likely just try to develop pre-1967 borders plus the new suburbs of Jerusalem.
I think it is foolish to try and predict beyond that time. I think it’s foolish to predict beyond 2030. For all we know, we could have a second Shoah leading to a Samson Option and global nuclear war (which, I am sorry to say, is what I think will happen, because I have to think at some point the Islamonazis will get the bomb and use it on Israel, consequences to the world be damned. They are that sick and filled with hate).
Eric, my Israeli demographics comes to me from my graduate studies in the City and Regional Planning Curriculum of the Department of Geography at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 1973-1974 and from Yoram Ettinger, arguably the best and most noted demographer in Israel.
1) The Jewish population of Israel has been consistently doubling every 35 years since the independence of the State of Israel was declared in 1948. To a major degree, much of that increase was from immigration of persons from the various Jewish diaporas. But more significantly, the growth rate among nationalist and especially religious nationalist Jews has surpassed that of the Palestinian and other Arabs living in proximity of Israel. The long-term trend is for that to continue.
2) He who controls the levers of state power in any country, and especially so in the Middle East, can get rid of unwanted residents in the easiest of ways. First, gradually shrink the access to unwanted villagers to what had been their water supply. If they lack the water for their farms, cattle, sheep, goats and whatever, they will find ways and means of leaving. As for their urban residents, begin restricting their access to means of gainful employment with which to support themselves and their families. They too will leave. Are you ruthless enough to do all that? I certainly am. And there are many other Jews who in time will learn to use the tools of ruthlessness and little by little, they will find the means of putting into state power the kinds of ruthless governments that will carry out such policies.
3) The population density of Israel compared with that of the US State of New Jersey, is relatively meaningless. New Jersey is not surrounded with grossly hostile populations that wish nothing more than to dream of killing every Jews within reach of their guns, knives and strapped-on suicide bombs. Moreover, New Jersey is part of the integrated economy of a 360000 square mile commonwealth. Your population is free to cultivate whatever best grows in Jersey under it prevalent climate and precipitation conditions. And as I understand these matters, the only thing unstable about your government probably is the ability of your gross pig of a governor to carry around his apparent 350 lbs of fat without stumbling and breaking one or more of his limbs.

@ ArnoldHarris:
Arnold, in theory, you are right. But let’s worry about getting to the end of the quarter century (2025) or even half century (2050) first, since even that is not a given. At a growth rate of 1.5%, Israel will have about 9.8-10.0 million people in 2025. That is about 1,250/square mile – about what South Korea has now for population density.
I can think of an entity that is about the same size of Israel, and has slightly more people, and I can tell you that it does not feel all that crowded. It is called New Jersey. I know, because I live in it.
Also keep in mind that even at 1,500/sq. mi., you are talking a population density equivalent to Taiwan. It’s doable. I grew up in Nassau County, New York – which is classic suburbia, and that is about 4,500 people/square mile.
I think Israel will worry about reclaiming the Negev before it worries about trying to create a war by trying to expel 2 million or so Palestinians. That’s in part what the expansion of the Port of Eilat and the Eilat-Ashdod railway is about.
ArnoldHarris Said:
This is neither silly nor delusional. In 2001, Ayatollah Rafsanjani explicitly stated that not even Israeli nukes would stop Iran from exterminating Israel, because one or two bombs would wipe out the Jews, while in his words, even 100 Israeli nukes could only “wound Islam”. So the need to react to a second Shoah is very real, because the reborn Nazis of Tehran state that they are going to do it.
This discussion began rationally, then degraded into morbid silliness with death wishes in connection with incinerating all or most of the Middle East or perhaps even the planet, through use of nuclear weaponry on a massive scale.
What I advocate is pursuit of Jewish national power, not Jewish national suicide. So let us go back to basics.
Israel — even with Judea and Samaria fully integrated as part of the Jewish state — is simply too small for the needs of the demographically-expanded Jewish nation which I foresee even by the end of this century. The 10,000 square miles of that territory amount to little more space than you can find in a handful of counties in southern Wisconsin where most of our family lives, and in states such as Arizona and New Mexico, could be stuffed into just one of the largest counties, probably with room left over for one of the big United States Air Force gunnery ranges. Small states almost always invite aggression from neighbors such found in the prevalent Arab cultures.
Thus, there will be many opportunities for Israel to respond to these smaller-scale Arab aggressions by sending ground forces into the territory from which any such aggression was mounted. Then as soon as the shooting has stopped, the newly-taken territory must be annexed to the State of Israel and Jewish settlements, industries and agricultural development must be emplaced and sustained. Over the rest of this century, and the next, the Jewish population of the growing State of Israel can continue its trends of the past 65 years of doubling every 35 years or so.
A Jewish national policy such as I advocate here will threaten neither the essential national interests of Saudi Arabia and the petroleum-wealthy Persian Gulf states, nor the interests of the major world powers, and in any case, would be carried out over long periods of time.
As for the local Arab populations of the newly-absorbed territories, there will be no mass expulsions of those who wish to remain in their homes, with local self-government. For those who try their hands at fomenting insurrections great or call, there will be no large-scale Israeli imprisonment; only permanent expulsion, with forced financial sales of their properties to Jewish national agencies for use in settling Jewish residents. Compare that to the outright thefts of Jewish properties by all the Arab countries where there were extensive Jewish populations before 1948.
All things considered, national power can be built and protected without resort to war of instant mass killings of millions of persons. I suggest we stick to that principle, and for those of you who live in the State of Israel should focus on the task of electing governments that will serve the national needs of the Jewish nation and not necessarily the causes of Israel’s present overlords in Washington DC or any other foreigners.

@ Eric R.:
I am not speaking about Samson Option but deterrence.
Till now our nukes have not prevented conventional wars nor other neighboring countries from attempting to develop them. Libya took us by surprise. That is dangerous and proves we can’t stop a determined state from attaining their own Nukes. If a country has enough wealth they can potentially buy off the shelf nukes and skip the cost of development. Pakistan a most radical Muslim country has it’s thought over 100 nukes.
North Korea for barter or cash will sell anything. It’s thought the Saudis have in their possession a few nukes given by Pakistan in payment for Saudi financing of the Islamic bomb. Egypt and Algeria have advanced nuclear projects and small reactors. Syria almost got theirs and still might. Intellectual property and expertise will still exist no matter who gets control of Syria and America has agreed to give Jordan a reactor and nuclear technology. It’s all a matter of time. Israel could and in my opinion preempt no matter what the erst of the world says or does but That won’t happen not with BB leading the the country or any like him.
one or 2 small kiliton nukes won’t destroy Israel especially if it hits at ground level after that Samson kicks in based on a Use Them or Lose them scenario. Can you imagine tens of thousand of oil wells around the world burning for years all radio active? You will not see the sun for many years.
The world understands Israel has a nuclear capability but nobody believes we would use them thus negating there usefulness as a deterrent.
For Israel to survive she must become in the eyes of the world a crazy state so feared that no one would bother us or even contemplate it.
We can never achieve such as state by pleading with the world for recognition and approval. Every-time I hear a foreign leader express the hollow cannard “that Israel has the right to defend itself” my stomach churns and feel nothing but disgust at our leaders so proud of themselves when they all give us their approval to defend ourselves (SPIT) How demeaning!!!!! We ourselves are responsible!! We have not shed out diaspora mentality and until we do, things will not go well for us.

I disagree, Israel should adopt a nuclear offensive doctrine replacing conventional warfare doctrines. Israel might reduce our conventional armed forces to the level of border police and anti terror units. Rely on nukes against any external threat conventional or nuclear. Build up our navy which extends our second strike capabilities the same as strategic depth. Announce some of our Targets in response to any attacks like Oil fields Aswan Dam All Arab and Muslim capitals, The Vatican Mecca, Medina All Europen Capitals including Moscow, even North America.
Or we might hint and allow the world’s imagination to suffice. Money saved from conventional resources can be in part applied to missile defense increasing ICBM and other delivery and defensive platforms with enough left over to fund our social needs and to subsidize our business community for losses due to BDS efforts by our enemies. Reducing our conventional Armed forces to bare bones should convince our enemies we are serious as we would have no other means of defense.

In Ezekiel, G-d promises to rain fire and brimstone on Magog, and by now we know what the prophet means. In the words of Mahabharata, “A column of smoke and flame as bright as a thousand suns.” G-d gave us close to 400-500 hundred such weapons.
Every weapon in human history was used to the fullest possible extent. Many nations will obtain nuclear weapons soon; the technology is out in the wild. Everyone’s self-restraint in using them would be incredible.

Proclamations are not displays: a display might be a small nuclear weapon sent by missile to a desert spot in Iran, an iranian nuclear plant, or another appropriate Iranian location. Declarations are meaningless, as national intelligence services follow their own assessments to arrive at conclusions and do not rely on the declaration. Iran makes many declarations but Israel comes to its own conclusions. No one relies on proclamations. There are many diplomatic problems which arise from such a meaningless declaration. If Israel did not have the capacities assumed then it has a deterrent obtained from the beliefs of the other. If it aint broke don’t fix it. 🙂

@ Eric R.:
Eric R,
For a sovereign state, a policy of nuclear ambiguity is similar to personal virginity. Once abandoned it can never again be achieved. But for a state, giving up such ambiguity accomplishes little in terms of national defense, and instead, is more likely to lead to an endless international chorus of demands for nuclear disarmament in the face of growing existential threats.
I had not given much thought to Israel’s nuclear ambiguity until you posed to me the question of whether terminating that possibility would strengthen Israel’s national power.
Giving flip answers to complicated questions is not the way I have been schooled to think and write. So I did some quick online research of various opinions on the topic. Here is the link to what I consider the most carefully considered review of the topic that was available to me:
http://cdn.www.inss.org.il.reblazecdn.net/upload/(FILE)1320577078.pdf
The author is Adam Raz, a scholar at Tel Aviv University, who published a 14-page paper in Strategic Assessment, titled “The Value of Nuclear Ambiguity in the Face of a Nuclear Iran”.
Raz’s viewpoint, as I understand it, includes the paradox that nuclear armaments are a characteristic of militarily weak countries seeking an equalizer in dealing with likely enemy states. Apparently Yigal Allon, father of the idea of a never-to-be-abandoned Israeli defense line along the Jordan River thought the same. In any case, Raz makes the important point that Israel’s nuclear ambiguity over the past 50 years has contributed to the fact that none of the Arab states have been motivated to acquire nuclear weapons, despite numerous wars with Israel, and that revoking the nuclear ambiguity policy in the face of an Iranian state presently pursuing nuclear weapons capability would bring no advantages whatsoever to Israel.
I agree with his findings.

Doesn’t the Wiesenthal Centre know that “truth” is the new hate speech?

The delusions of the lunatic left are immune to the truth.
Afraid we’ll need something more potent than that to combat BDS and the moral inversions of the enlightened left.
No, Ted. You and the Wiesenthal Center both have it wrong. You liberal Jews never seem to learn the lessons of how the world actually works.
“Truth” is not the best disinfectant against the Boycott/Divest/Snnctions Movement that targets Israel. The only feasible disinfectant is the growth of power of the Jewish nation.
National power, in terms of the real present and future needs of the State of Israel means a greatly expanded future Jewish population that living on a greatly expanded and more easily-defended Jewish national territory that will include all the lands between the Gulf of Suez and the Suez Canal on the southwest, the Mediterranean Sea on the west, the Syrian Desert on the east, the Litani River gorge and Mount Hermon range on the north, and the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula, the Straits of Tiran and the northwestern Arabian Desert to the south.
The Arabs who live in and in the vicinity of Israel will provide the justification for the kinds of Jewish national land-takings that I want to happen. Every military provocation should result in the taking of a small or large slice of such land, which should be occupied by Israel’s military forces, then quickly annexed by the State of Israel, followed by Jewish national settlement of these territories as soon as practicable and at a rate that will render return of these lands all but impossible either to negotiate or to effectuate.
Israeli “understandings” with liberal democratic societies such as the USA, Canada, the UK, various West European states, et al, are worthless in the face of pressures that the organized and thoroughly hostile Islamic world is able to bring upon the cultural elites thus targeted by the Arabs in particular and other Muslims in general. This is a key reason that I want Israel’s future alliances to be made solely with countries in which public opinion is is controlled by their autocratic governments such as those of China and Russia. I am not now and never have been especially interested in democracy, liberal or otherwise; and I think the future of the world shall be controlled by governments that monopolize power and use this power to control public opinion. Countries such as China and Russia make no such agreements with other countries other than in pursuit of their own national economic, military or extended imperial interests. Which is precisely the way Israel should learn to conduct its foreign policies.
As for winning so-called hearts and minds of presumably otherwise disinterested and neutral citizens of the democratic countries, you can forget that. The audience targeted by the Muslim propaganda campaigns know the world better than you do. They know that national power wins friends, whereas draws only contempt. This is why so many people around the world have sided with the Arabs. It is because they now perceive you as weak losers and they see the Arabs as invincible winners.
Perverse, you probably would say? Maybe so, by Jewish liberal standards. But if you want the Jewish nation to permanently survive, you had better start re-examining your assumptions. Because what might work in a court of law or even in a debating society is utterly irrelevant when it comes to the territorial imperative that alone determines which species, peoples and even lowly organisms shall survive and prosper, and which shall be driven to extinction.

“The Nazification of Liberal Christianity” by Giulio Meotti – In a new report titled “The Inheritance of Abraham? The ‘Promised Land’”, the Church of Scotland says Israel does not belong to the Jewish people. “Promises about the land of Israel were never intended to be taken literally, or as applying to a defined geographical territory. The promised land in the Bible is not a place, so much as a metaphor” says the report. ~~~ According to this Christian document, Jewish history has become “Palestinian Arab history” and the Jewish nation (“Am Yisrael”) that ruled in the Holy Land for a thousand years and developed a world-shaking culture never existed. – During the Third Reich pro-Nazi Christians recast Jesus as an Aryan fighting against the Jews. According to Hitler’s theologians, Jesus was not a Jew, but a Galilean opponent of Judaism.
