66% of Israeli Jews Are on the Right, Only 19% are on the Left

Peloni:  As usual, Daniel Greenfield strikes the perfect pitch in his analysis.  One point to add to this is that in the coming election Bibi Derangement will play pivotal part in the Left’s strategy of pulling votes from the national camp.

1. As I’ve noted in the past, American Jewish liberalism is an outlier globally. Jews in the UK, Canada and Australia have been drifting center-right, and even further right in France.

2. Israeli Jews are significantly further right. A recent poll from the liberal JPPI shows that 66% of Israeli Jews identify as ‘right’, only 19% as being on the left, and 13% as being in the center.

Further breakdowns show 14% identify as far right, 23% as right, 13% as moderate right, and 9% as center left, 7% as moderate left, 3% as left, and 0% as far left

3% more identify with the right and 3% fewer with the left

The obvious takeaway is that the Left is unpopular in Israel and it very much is. Unfortunately it still controls much of the media and the political establishment which is why the upcoming election is characterized by crazy media attacks on Netanyahu and fake third parties, in typical fashion led by retired generals and technocrats, who sound ‘right-wing’ but are just trojan horses for the Left.

They may get away with it this time, they have before, which will be a disaster for Israel. I’m not Netanyahu’s biggest fan, but there are actual right wing people in his government who represent a majority of the country which otherwise doesn’t get a say.

And that’s why the smear campaigns against them have been relentless.

Why does Israel have a 66% to 19% split. That’s a massive tilt.

The short version is that Israel used to be run by a corrupt leftist government that alienated every successive immigrant group, Holocaust survivors, Middle Eastern Jewish refugees, Russian Jews, etc with its abuses and prejudice, this was followed by the disastrous Oslo deal with Arafat and a policy of enabling Islamic terrorism. So few Israelis trust these Left on economics and social justice, usually its bread and butter, and almost none trust them on security.

There are significant ethnic splits typically, with the left clustering among the old school Ashkenazi families going back to pre-state days and the far right clustering among middle eastern Jewish refugees.

With these kinds of numbers, Israeli politics should be far better than they are. Unfortunately, the Left controls the courts, the legal system, the media, academia and the culture. And overrides decisions made by elected officials on a daily basis (under Trump, we’ve gotten a feel for that in America) and also foists fake third parties on the public because its people can’t win on their own. Combine that with Muslim bloc voting, tensions with the Haredim and large scale corruption, and Israel remains stuck far more to the left than where the public is. But it’s still a reminder of what an aberration American Jewish liberalism is elsewhere.
