Well I messed up his name as well — it’s Gohmert.
The man’s name is Louie Golmert. He represented a district in Texas in the House of Representatives. To refer to Congressman Golmert as “Gomer,” whether you realize it or not, is to apply a term that colloquially refers to a “dumb, ignorant Southerner.” Rep. Golmert is not dumb. He is extremely conservative, but dumb he is not.
