Stop leaving Egypt out of the conversation on Gaza’s humanitarian crisis
Peloni: The humanitarian situation in Gaza only exists because of Egypt. Indeed, not only is Egypt responsible for blocking Gazans from seeking refuge in Egypt and elsewhere, Egypt is responsible for facilitating the massive arms transfers to Gaza which actually made the October 7 slaughter, and the war which followed, possible. Furthermore, Egypt maintains that not only should the Gazans wanting to leave Gaza be denied the right to do so during this war, but they should be permanently enslaved to remain tied to the land of Gaza as if they were serfs of the Middle Ages. This mendacity masked as support for the Gazans, is in fact motivated by a determination to keep the Gazans trapped in their current situation where they might continued to be weaponized against Israel in the hopes that their enforced tragedy will continue to result in more dead Jews, which is of course both an accurate and intentional consequence of enforcing the permanently indentured status of the Gazans to the land of Gaza.
Egypt remains absent from any serious discussion of solutions on any humanitarian issues seen in the Gaza Strip.

Last week the UN-backed Integrated Food Security Phase Classification system declared famine conditions in parts of northern Gaza. The declaration altered normal IPC standards by relying on projections rather than verified evidence such as daily death counts from malnutrition or updated reporting on hunger mortality.
No data was presented on the number of people dying per day from starvation, nor was there acknowledgment that aid deliveries into Gaza have increased significantly over the past two weeks. The announcement generated headlines worldwide but departed from the empirical baseline normally required to label a famine.
Amid this humanitarian debate, Egypt remains absent from serious discussion of solutions. Egypt is a signatory to the 1951 Refugee Convention, the 1967 Protocol which expanded asylum protections worldwide by removing the original convention’s geographic and time limitations, and the 1969 OAU Convention Governing the Specific Aspects of Refugee Problems in Africa. Despite these commitments, Cairo has repeatedly refused to open its border to displaced Gazans.
So the UN releases data showing 89% of food aid is stolen my Hamas and then declares that the Gazans are starving.
How is this Israel’s fault?
Has Hamas said that if Israel stops hunting them down and snuffing them for their murderous actions of Oct 7th 2023, they will stop stealing the AID food? I have not heard that. Anyone else?
Here is another place where Trump has backtracked. Egypt gets $1.3 billion in aid from the U.S. annually (or more) despite the regime’s oppression of minorities (eg. Copts), facilitating arms deliveries to Hamas, and anti-Israel stance. Their refusal to accept Gazans into camps in Sinai is (as this report indicates) to keep them as pawns against Israel. Trump has shown tremendous weakness here which acts as an incentive to Hamas, Iran and the rest of the jihad camp.
The non-combatants in the Gaza Strip are indeed imprisoned by the Egyptians and they have been since the 6-day war in 1967 or possibly from the war of independence in 1948-9. They can only leave through the Egyptian border if they can afford to pay the required backsheesh. Since this only works for those who can pay, the majority of Gazans have no choice. This is the current situation.
If the international community were to take a pause from beating up on Israel to consider the plight of the Gazans, they might indeed try to provide aid in a protected environment, but as sure as night follows day, Hamas would be firing on them as punishment for deserting them to face the Israelis without a human shield. This is the probable reason why there is no such endeavor. Those protectors themselves would need protection!
Of course, they are all aware of this situation. On the other hand, it is much more fun to beat up the Israelis at the UN, international courts and so on. They are not afraid of repercussions and fully expect the Israelis to remain their friends when they need some expertise, whether medical or military.
I can only suggest that Israel should be taking notes and reply accordingly when asked about help or anything else. Were they really offering Iran help with their water supply after all this?
93% of Gazans support Hamas actions. Ergo, there are no “non-combatants”. We need to stop thinking of them as innocents. Children are indoctrinated at birth to hate jews and want to die for the cause.
