Coalition hails probe of leaked video apparently showing abuse of Gazan prisoner

Peloni:  What needs to be understood as the reality behind this scandal is that among the initial charges against the IDF soldiers was the charge that they had sodomized the prisoner in question, this despite there was never any evidence presented to support this charge on the video which was released.  Furthermore, the video itself has evidence of being selectively edited in at least two places, and counter claims have been made that these edits were effected to alter the true context of the events which were recorded.  This represents a massive blood libel against the IDF and seriously damaged Israel’s image during the height of its 8 front war with Iran.  The impact of these charges against the good conduct and nature of the IDF at a critical point in the war can not be overstated, and yet it was the intention of the authorities involved to sweep the truth of this calumny against Israel under the rug.  The revelation of this inquiry gives hope that the reign of terror held over Israel by the Israeli Deep State may be at the zenith of its illicit power and mismanagement.  One can only hope that this is true.

Coalition members welcomed Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara’s decision Wednesday to launch a criminal probe into leaked footage from the Sde Teiman detention facility that purported to show soldiers severely abusing a Gazan inmate last year, saying the video was leaked to defame the troops.

According to the IDF, investigators are probing the possible involvement of individuals from the office of Military Advocate General Maj. Gen. Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi in distributing the video aired by Channel 12 in August 2024. Tomer-Yerushalmi, who is not herself a suspect, is on indefinite leave due to the investigation, which Baharav-Miara said was launched following new evidence.

Right-wing lawmakers and ministers, three of whom joined a mob that stormed Sde Teiman after the IDF soldiers suspected of abuse were detained, had long described the video as slander against IDF troops and called for the MAG’s office to be investigated for the leak.

Defense Minister Israel Katz, of the ruling Likud party, said Wednesday that he “welcomes and supports” the decision to launch the criminal probe. “This is a serious affair that created a blood libel against IDF soldiers in Israel and around the world, and it must be thoroughly examined and investigated,” he said.

Far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, who has accused military jurists of endangering combat soldiers with legal constraints, said on X that the probe, and Tomer-Yerushalmi’s leave, were “a dramatic development in the defense of democracy against criminal conduct disguised as legal action.”

“All those involved in the affair must be held accountable, including the attorney general herself, who initially tried to thwart the investigation with a false statement to the High Court of Justice,” he added.

  1. From Moshe Feiglin:

Those who committed an act of sodomy were not the soldiers of Force 100 among the Nukhba terrorists, but rather, in fact, the environment of the Military Advocate General, perhaps even the Military Advocate General herself, among the soldiers of Force 100. They committed a judicial act of sodomy against IDF soldiers, which exploded as a??? terrorist attack in Israel’s foreign policy and severely harmed all IDF soldiers and the security of the hostages.
I was the first to explain this, it was me, at the demonstration we held in front of the military prosecution personnel at Beit Lid camp, about a year and a half ago.
The fact that now the Military Advocate General is going on leave because she is under investigation is, in my view, an important closing of the circle, which is clear to me must lead the Military Advocate General, Yifat Yerushalmi, and the other culprits, behind bars for a long time.
