Trump Launches WAR In Iran Again – U.S. Military Strikes IRGC

Peloni:  Take note of the fact that while Iran’s attacks targeting Israel’s northern communities and the American helicopter were both arbitrary in nature, the assaults being brought by both Israel and America are strategic and penalizing.  Israel targeted the Iranian oil infrastructure and Trump is targeting Iran’s gulf capabilities.  While Israel has been forced to halt their attack on Iran, Trump has now ordered at least three waves of attacks thus far on Iran’s Gulf assets which directly has a bearing on Iran’s ability to leverage its authority in enforcing its Gulf blockade.  Will Iran be capable of continuing its blockade after these attacks?  We will see.

  1. Actually, it was proportional.

proportional definition in military law In military law, proportionality is a core rule of the ?Law of Armed Conflict. It prohibits any military attack where the expected incidental harm to civilians or civilian objects is “excessive” relative to the concrete and direct military advantage anticipated.Key Elements of ProportionalityBalancing Test: Commanders must weigh two highly distinct factors: expected collateral damage against anticipated military gain. The “Reasonable Commander” Standard: The law judges proportionality based on the information reasonably available to the commander at the time of the decision, rather than perfect hindsight. Not a Ban on Civilian Casualties: The rule recognizes that some ?collateral damage is an unfortunate reality of war. It only makes the attack illegal if the damage is excessive.Self-Defense Context: Outside of combat operations, proportionality also dictates that a state’s response to an armed attack must be limited to what is genuinely necessary to stop and repel the threat.Protected Status vs. Military TargetsTo apply this concept, the military divides the battlefield into categories:Military Objectives: Lawful targets that directly contribute to the enemy’s war-fighting capability. Proportionality calculations apply only when collateral harm to civilians or civilian objects is foreseeable while targeting these.Protected Objects & Persons: Civilians, medical personnel, religious figures, hospitals, and cultural property. They can never be made the object of an attack, which is why protecting them from incidental harm via the proportionality rule is crucial. For further reading on the exact applications, you can review the ?Lieber Institute at West Point for deep-dives on international humanitarian law.Would you like to explore how this principle affects targeting decisions, or are you interested in peacetime rules of engagement / self-defense?
