What does the agreement in Lebanon prove?

Peloni:  Will we see an about face in Trump’s policy in the fall as Yossi Baum indicates?  Time will tell.

That, as your faithful servant has been writing incessantly, there is a hidden aspect to Trump’s approach toward Israel in recent weeks.

*  That although Trump is signaling to the Iranians that, in the conflict between them and Israel, he is supposedly willing to accept their side, he is using the argument that this is in the interest of Lebanon’s elected government in order to advance an agreement between Israel and Lebanon—despite Iran’s strong opposition.

*  In order not to upset the Iranians too much (and possibly for additional reasons), the agreement was set to extend only as far as the security zone and not farther north. For the time being, he needs the Iranians to think he is weak. And here’s a scoop: the agreement also includes a secret annex that relates to areas farther north.

*  For the who-knows-how-many-th time: I recommend waiting for the “turnaround” in Trump’s approach toward the Iranians, at some point before the elections in Israel. Exactly how and when this will happen depends on the circumstances. Yes, I know this is the mother of all leaks. But this is not an opinion; these are significant indications (that are not known to the public).
