Paul Schnee: Melanie Phillips’ article is a master class in how historical and political truth has been and is being distorted by deliberate misinformation, disinformation, crass falsifications and lies the size of Jupiter. Clearly, a commitment to historical revision dulls one’s sense of contradiction, but it helps one to pole-vault from one false conclusion to another.
Yesterday at their Synod the Church of England, of which His Majesty King Charles III is the Supreme Governor, issued a rebarbative Israel-bashing and Jew-hating declaration called, “ A Moment of Truth: Faith In A Time of Genocide.” It succeeded in adding duplicity to the incomprehensible.
The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dame Sarah Mullally, fully embraced the Synod’s declaration. As yet it is not known whether her uncritical enthusiasm was due to her religious and political bias or to her dyslexia. Nevertheless, out popped the cloven hoof. The grudging toleration and murderous hostility towards the Jewish people by the Church of England has been revealed and is now on full display.
A good deal of hypocrisy, an anxious attempt to repeal history and a slippery foothold on the truth are all required to make the Synod’s declaration into a plausible argument.
It has been said that one of the ways to avoid being charged with offenses against truth and morality is to have the word “Reverend” placed before one’s name. Nice try Archbishop Mullally, but you are the living embodiment of Benjamin Franklin’s observation that inclination is too strong for reason. Your inclination is to demonize the Jewish people whose one despairing wish is to live at peace with her neighbors something that has eluded them for hundreds of years before Israel was reconstituted in just part of its ancient and historical homeland in 1948.
The Synod and Archbishop of Canterbury are channelling an unspeakable ancient calumny
