Peloni: This was a really great interview. Aija Mayrock shares her journey from being a passively self-hating Jew to an active advocate for not only embracing and cherishing her Jewish identity, but for investigating and sharing the stories and circumstances of Jewish identities as they exist around the world. Her own story is the very personification of fighting Jew Hatred by embracing our Jewish identity, and thereby strengthening that which is the real target of Jew Haters.

There is a rabbinical tradition the Yeshiva crowd can give chapter and verse for; that Moses took only a fifth of the Jews in Egypt into the wilderness and eventually the promised land. The rest were absorbed by the Egyptian population. This also parallels as harmonics the doctrine of the “surviving remnant” regenerating: to adapt Othello… “to have been of some service to Humanity, and they know it,” [whence the hatreds of an obligation, jealousy….]
This then leaves the fate of those who stayed or otherwise dropped out not only from the original Exodus but stayed in Spain, in Germany, the Arab World and the Former Soviet Union & Eastern Europe? Some followed on later. In the Arab World they died off; and in the Europe and America they marry out and their (grand)children either do not care or refer to them as family exotica.
Meanwhile Israel (re)develops Jewish identity as a people at home in its own skin and because it has fluent Hebrew so acess to the literary corpus it can refashion the heritage to fit and sanctify the modern World’s science, engineering and arts. This will take more efforts and subtlety than sheer survival.
