An Iraqi gives an impassioned defense of…Benjamin Netanyahu

Not only that, he castigates Arab nations for failing to stand up for their own people and casts shade on the whole Palestinian narrative.

Raith Al-Tamimi, an Iraqi living in the UK, is one of those rare people willing to state the obvious truth: While the Arab world demands that the rest of the world defend it, Benjamin Netanyahu defends his country and, most especially, his country’s women.

The funniest part of the video is watching the female host who, I presume, also lives in the UK, try to defend Muslim nations’ sorry record with their women, only to be overridden by the impassioned Al-Tamimi.

Here’s the video and a transcript based on the subtitles:

Host: Did you hear Netanyahu’s speech at the UN?

Al-Tamimi: Yes…and I applauded him.

Host: You applaud Netanyahu?

Al-Tamimi: All the time. All the time.

Host: The man is accused of war crimes.

Al-Tamimi: Oh, my dear lady. Every leader who makes a mark on history has to commit war crimes. Show me someone who defends his people the way Netanyahu does.

Host: Why did you applaud him?

Al-Tamimi: I applauded a Al-Tamimi willing to stand up to the whole world for his people. I applauded a Al-Tamimi who, to defend the dignity of Israeli women, is willing to destroy the entire world.

Host: Yes. That’s what we need.

What about the dignity of Palestinian women and children?

Al-Tamimi: That is Mahmoud Abbas’s responsibility, not Netanyahu’s. It’s the Palestinians’ responsibility.

Why is protecting Palestinian women, of all women, the whole world’s job, but not Sinwar’s or Mahmoud Abbas’s?

How long will this go on?

Moroccan women are the responsibility of the King of Morocco. Madam, the Saudi king is responsible for Saudi women. Iraq’s government is responsible for Iraqi women.

Why single out “Palestinian women”?

Host: Mr. Ghaith…

What’s all this about?

But you forget Palestinian women…

Al-Tamimi: When Israeli women were taken captive, who defended them?

Host: The Israelis!

Al-Tamimi: Exactly. Let the Palestinians defend their women. He got her into this mess.

Host: So you forget the occupation…

Al-Tamimi: What occupation? What occupation?

Occupation is when a country exists and its land is occupied.

Tell me, where is this country? Name it. What is it called?

An imaginary country that exists in our minds, to fuel the wars in our countries.

Our interests lie with Israel.

We have no interest in Netanyahu. No, excuse me…

We have no interest in Mahmoud Abbas or Sinwar. That is an Arab and Islamic reality.

Host: We’ll end the show on that passionate note.

What can I do? I swear, I’ve lost my voice…

Al-Tamimi: I mean, you started…

Host: I swear it wasn’t me!

Al-Tamimi: Madam, they have killed us. They massacre us daily in the name of this “cause.”

I disagree with Al-Tamimi’s acceptance of the statement that Bibi committed “war crimes” (he did not, having overseen a war conducted with the most exquisite sensibility for enemy civilians in the history of human warfare), but otherwise, Al-Tamimi is correct: There are no Palestinians, and the Arab world uses them as a crutch to distract from its own failings.

I would not be at all surprised to learn that many Arab-speakers listening to Al-Tamimi know he’s right…but either from fear of being killed or merely becoming social outcasts (for many, a form of death), are afraid to speak out with his courage.
