PELONI: An armed public can prevent disasters from occurring, or prevent a serious disaster from becoming even more tragic. Stay armed, stay trained, stay alert, and provide the security that your family and community need until the authorities are able to arrive. In Jordan, a recent terror attack on a Christian funeral procession at a Greek Orthodox Church saw a delay of some 45 minutes for the authorities to arrive. In that time one armed citizen could have provided a meaningful deterrence to the slaughter that ensued. Recall the slaughter at Bondi Beach with this same reference in mind. An armed public provides a serious deterrence to a successful terror attack, no matter the location or nation in which such terror attacks take place. Of course, totalitarian govts fail to appreciate the strength inherent in allowing the public to be armed.

According to the gun control lobby, there’s no possible way an armed civilian can possibly stop a mass shooting. It’s best just to wait for the police who will then form a cordon and arrest any parents who try to save their children, and after having lunch, and checking the news on their phones, and making sure all the kids are dead, finally get off their asses, put on all their DHS grant SWAT gear and go in.
Worked out great in Uvalde. Luckily, despite all the efforts to restrict gun ownership in Oregon by Democrats, there was a carpenter with a gun on the ground at this recent school shooting.
Kaylub Giamanco woke up and got his kids ready for school that Thursday like it was any other day. The family made breakfast and packed lunches. He and his wife spent a little extra time dressing up their two girls because Oct. 15 was picture day at Silver Rail Elementary.
In an exclusive interview with OPB, Giamanco described the series of seemingly insignificant decisions that brought him to that intersection at 12:58 p.m. that day — the same time a 16-year-old carrying a shotgun approached his children’s school. It was the packed lunch he didn’t eat, the masonry shop where he didn’t stop, the bolts he needed but didn’t buy, and the gun he says had just been “collecting dust” in his truck console.
Passing by the school that day, Giamanco spotted someone carrying a gun, followed him into the school, and then shot and killed the teen who fired shotgun rounds into a special education classroom. The shooter killed three children, ages 5, 8 and 11, and a 25-year-old teacher. Two other people were seriously injured. Police credit Giamanco with saving many lives at the school of more than 400 children.
His “heart dropped” for a second, he said, as he wondered if the .40 caliber handgun he rarely used would be there. It was. He got the magazine from a separate compartment and drove into the school parking lot while watching the shooter walk across the school grounds.
“I just was in full panic, like, ‘No, there’s children, there’s babies in there.’ I told my Siri to call 911,” he said. The dispatcher had questions for him, but he didn’t stay on the call to answer them.
“I said, ‘I’m sorry, I have to go in. People are going to die.’”
“That’s when I started hearing children pleading for their lives and then I started hearing gunfire and I just started army crawling faster and faster and I told myself this is probably the last thing that I’m ever going to do.”
Oregon’s gun ban efforts did not stop the school shooting, but thankfully they also didn’t stop the man who stopped the school shooting.
Oregon gun laws are rated as the 12th strictest in the nation according to data collected by gun violence prevention group Everytown for Gun Safety, but they didn’t stop the shooting of four elementary school children and two teachers at a Bend elementary school on Thursday.
No, a guy with a gun did that. The Second Amendment did that.
