Bennett is caving on Consulate and Airport

By Ted Belman.

ARUTZ SHEVA . Report quotes high-ranking Israeli official as admitting that consulate will reopen “soon,” despite right-wing objections within government.

Apparently Israel will do nothing to stop it even though her consent is required.

Also there was a report that Bennett told the US that construction in Jerusalem neighborhood would not happen.

Israeli official to Arutz Sheva: Bennett did not stop construction in Atarot

An Israeli official told Arutz Sheva on Thursday evening that Prime Minister Naftali Bennett did not stop the construction of the Atarot neighborhood of Jerusalem, but rather explained to the Americans that this is a technical procedure that will last at least a year.

The official added that the construction plan in Atarot will go up for discussion in the district committee on December 6.

The official was responding to the report by Barak Ravid on the Walla! news website, which said that Bennett has sent messages to the Biden Administration that the government would not promote the construction of Atarot.

The plan to construct the neighborhood was approved by the local committee in Jerusalem a few days ago.

A senior diplomat said the Prime Minister made it clear to the United States that the government has no authority or control over the local committee, but once it reaches the district committee where the government can intervene, it will not be advanced.

Im Tirzu movement CEO Matan Peleg slammed the report. “What a shame that a man who made his political fortune through criticism from the right is folding so quickly in the face of American and European pressure. Jerusalem needs to be strengthened and fortified, every message of weakness is translated into the actual division of the city and the deepening of foreign involvement. Apparently there is no right in this government. Naftali Bennett, political laxity is not an ideology. Whoever voted for you is ashamed of you today.”

  1. Regardless of whether the US owns the building, it sits in Jerusalem, west Jerusalem no less, so Israeli law is applicable. In fact this action flies in the face of recognized international law.
If the US follows through with this and Israel allows it, the lie of Jewish sovereignty in our homeland will be confirmed.

  2. Let us first see if this is actually true before we jump to conclusions.

UN-named sources telling a third party what is happening. Is it a way to beat up on the current government by those trying to bring it down??

If not it is a serious problem, to be understated.

The location of the proposed re-opened consulate is now an American owned building operated by the US as an extension to the embassy. It became part of the embassy by changing the placard (name plate) on the outside from consulate to US Embassy. All it would take is to change the placard back to the US Consulate. So physically it would be hard to stop the US.

  3. This is a damning reproach of this govt. No means no unless you lack the will say no. The Radicals have had a weakness that this govt will not exploit. They could approach the American public for their support to put pressure on the Congressional candidates who are quite vulnerable and likely motivated to defy their party, as was recently seen when a number of the House members opposed their party’s legislation.

These members could put pressure on the White House to hear Israel’s statement of no. Not only has this pathway been notably avoided, I do not believe Bennett has been on any American television interviews in the past many months since he became PM. He is the PM of Israel and he can choose what media venues he likes, but it would have been wise to approach the American people directly, if not for their support, at least for the recognition that a direct relationship exists to which he could draw support in times of need, such as following the failed policy maneuvers. Instead he chose to pursue a policy of quiet disagreement on points pivotal to the state, so quiet that it seem his statement of “no” was never registered by the Radicals in Washington as he should have expected.

This will be greater than a political reproach upon this govt. It will be a national tragedy. Not only does it reverse the permanent status of Jerusalem as the united Capital, it sets the precedent for the US to roll back whatever previous standards have been put in place. This would likely include the Embassy, the Golan Heights and whatever else the Radicals put their sights upon up to some moment in which this govt will finally find the chutzpah or backbone to say, not just no, but no more! As these Radicals redefine freedom in the US, they seem decided to do so within the borders, courts and even the building permits of Israel. This should not be accepted, allowed or tolerated.
