‘British Jews should back English Defence League’

EDL develops ties with American Tea Party movement; invites US Rabbi and Tea Party activist to speak on Sharia in London, reports the ‘Guardian.’

The English Defence League (EDL), a British far-right group opposing the “Islamification” of the West and which is in contact with the US-based Tea Party organization, has invited Tea Party activist and senior Rabbi Nachum Shifren to speak about Sharia law in London this month, the Guardian reported on Sunday. The EDL’s links with the Tea Party movement surfaced a day after roughly 1,000 EDL supporters demonstrated in Leicester, which boasts a large Muslim population, according to the Guardian.

The Tea Party is expected to be an influential player in the upcoming midterm elections in the US. Shifren, who is running for senate in the midterm elections, said Britain’s Jewish community should support the EDL. “The Jewish community is paralysed with fear, exactly what most radical Muslim agitators want,” he said. “The people of England are in the forefront of this war – and it is a war. One of the purposes of this visit is to put the kibosh on the notion in the Jewish community that they cannot co-operate with the EDL, which is rubbish.”

Devin Burghart, vice-president of the Kansas-based Institute for Research & Education on Human Rights, was also quoted in the Guardian story, commenting on the Tea Party’s increasingly anti-Islamic views.

“As we move farther and farther away from the Tea Party origins, that were ostensibly around debt and bail-outs, social issues like Islamophobia are replacing that anger, that vigour. The idea that there is a war between Islam and the west is becoming commonplace,” he said.

EDL doesn’t welcome those with racist/ anti-semitic views. Many British Jews are so afraid of their

own shadow they prefer to kow-tow to racist, anti-Jew, anti-Christian fundamentalist Moslems now

trying to turn England into an Islamic colony with Sharia law & the Islamic flag flying over Buckingham Palace, Parliament, St.Paul’s Cathedral, Tower of London, the White Cliffs of Dover &…Harrods!

8. “Senior Rabbi”???

David, Los Angeles, USA, 10/10/2010

This guy is not a “senior” rabbi of anything. What is your writer talking about? He’s a frigne wingnut running for the California State Senate.

7. EDL

US_Exceptionalist, 10/10/2010

Why does the Jerusalem Post unthinkingly and uncritically parrot the far-left Guardian’s utterly shameful characterization of the EDL as a “far-right” group. What the hell does that mean anyway? Since when is it “far-right” to support freedom of conscience? To support freedom of religion. To support freedom of association, freedom of speech, freedom of the press, women’s rights, gay rights, and to oppose the promotion of another genocide of the Jews? Or does “far-right” simply mean that you’re not a hard-left dhimmi like the crowd at the Guardian?

PK, Hong Kong, 10/10/2010

Truer words never spoken (or in this case, written): “The EDL emerged because the establishment parties refuse to recognize, or deal with, that threat.” The PC lib-left are the ones that are/will be responsible for the rise of the far right! How is it that Jews, the ultimate intellectual overachievers, can also be the ultimate underachievers with respect to survival instinct/common sense?

5. EDL is great, I love this article

Yehoshua, Jewish National Home, 10/10/2010

I know EDL members. They are some of the most sound supporters of the national rights of Jews to Israel that I have ever had the pleasure to come across. English Jews need to listen to Rabbi Shifren. The EDL constantly overlooks wrongheaded Jews condemning them in the same manner as Muslims condemn them.

They overlook it, & they keep reaching out to & fighting a battle that benefits, those same Jews. All Jews should reach out to the EDL to offer any support they can. We Jews must let the EDL know that ghetto mentality liberal Jews who attack them do not speak for the majority of us proud Jews

4. Absolute propagandist rubbish

A Christian Gentile, UK, 10/10/2010

It is no surprise to me that this article seeks to stir Europe up into a state of Islamophobia. You are worried about Muslim terror? What about the Lavon Affair or the bombing of the USS liberty by Jews. I’m not a Muslim. But I can see this as clear as day. Keep the ignorant masses believing that the problem is the Muslims, which provides an excuse for further taxpayers dollars from our countries to prop up Israel. The greatest threat to Europe is Israel. Remember Professor Martin Van Creveld who said that Israel could avenge the holocaust by annihilating millions of Germans/other Europeans?
3. Jews paralysed with fear? See video

Idan, London, 10/10/2010

Go to YouTube.com and run a search for “Pro Israel support rally London, 2 June 2010” or “LONDON PRO ISRAEL RALLY SUMMER 2008” These cool, great kids don’t look paralysed to me. Long may they assert their Jewishness and love for Israel

2. The new holy war is upon us

Yishai, Canada, 10/10/2010

The Crusades were over 915 years ago in Jerusalem. Now it’s back in Europe. I hope there is a better outcome this time. If Muslims dislike the laws in Europe or anywhere else, please go back home. No one asked you to leave your birth country. Muslims need to learn the meaning of “when in Rome, do as the Romans do”. I bet if I act like a westerner in Saudi Arabia or other Muslim countries, I would be beheaded. Yet in Western countries, we can’t lift a finger. Its a shame.

1. Islamophobes – like the Washington Post

Raymond in DC., USA, 10/10/2010

Islamophobia – a made-up word, courtesy of Iran – is properly an “irrational fear” of Islam. Sometimes it’s irrational, sometimes not. The Post recently decided not to publish a cartoon based on the “Where’s Waldo?” theme.

It was captioned “Where’s Mohammed?” though neither Muslims nor Mohammed was portrayed. Such was their fear of “offending” (or maybe being targeted), it was pulled. But sometimes that fear – the recognition of the threat to one’s culture and freedoms – is quite rational. The EDL emerged because the establishment parties refuse to recognize, or deal with, that threat.

  1. The powers that be that guide the MSM simply want “neuters”. That’s what they mean by centrists , by balanced and fair opinion – disenfranchised manipulable masses. e

Hilarious. Muslims have committed nearly 20,000 terrorist attacks around the world since 9/11, European landmarks are being heavily guarded and even in some cases evacuated because of threats from MUSLIM terrorists, but the greatest threat to Europe according to this lunatic are the Jews! It goes to show that for the anti-Semite, hatred of the Jews is stronger than their own sense of self-preservation. This nutjob will believe the Jews are the greatest threat until the point that a muslim jihadist has a knife to his throat.
I want to say: HEAR, HEAR LAURA!

  3. It’s about time a new nomenclature were adopted for people of the centre. To call EDL and the Tea Party “far right” is insane. Perhaps we should make more use of the term “Not-Left” or “non-sinister”. Sinister certainly is appropriate for today’s leftists.

  4. Nowdays, the JPost is just slightly to the right of Ha’aretz. And I tell their telemarketers so every time they call me and beg me to renew my subscription. So should everyone else.

  5. I’m surprised at the JPost. The EDL is NOT a “far right group”. They are the only organized group in the UK that openly fights against the growing Islamization in that country. Not long ago, the police ensured, using very dubious tactics, that members of the EDL would be set upon by an army of Islamist thugs, and many were quite badly injured.

The JPost is doing nobody any favours by ignorantly labeling them like that. They should do some fact-finding before publishing, or they will end up like the NYT.

    Exactly correct.

They are no more “far right” than the British and American Governments that fought against fascism in WW2.

The label used by the MSM is deliberately meant to invalidate the group.

  6. “As we move farther and farther away from the Tea Party origins, that were ostensibly around debt and bail-outs, social issues like Islamophobia are replacing that anger, that vigour. The idea that there is a war between Islam and the west is becoming commonplace,” he said.

That’s because there IS such a war occurring. The liberal political elite all throughout the west refuses to acknowledge this reality. However the people are well aware of the threat posed to our civilization which is why ordinary westerners are increasingly rising up and becoming vocal and determined to take back their countries. The left is losing its power and control over the people and can no longer control the agenda.

How is it that Jews, the ultimate intellectual overachievers, can also be the ultimate underachievers with respect to survival instinct/common sense?

    How true!

  7. Shy:

You beat me to this one my thoughts to your comment! Ditto, there is no future for Jews in Europe period. This time around they can only blame themselves for what will happen to them. Their choice, their consequences. They are fighting for the present not the future.
