Canada: Ontario University Students Join Boycott Against Israel

This is all the more remarkable considering the support the Harper government gives Israel and given the fact that there is a vibrant Jewish population in Toronto. Further testimony that we have lost the battle of the narratives. Ted Belman

The Ontario branch of the Canadian Federation of Students, representing more than 300,000 university students in the province, has unanimously passed a motion to boycott Israel, The Canadian Press reported on Thursday.

Executive member Anna Goldfinch said the motion to join the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (or BDS) Movement received no opposition at its annual general meeting last weekend.

According to The Canadian Press, Goldfinch said that the resolution –  put forward by student union of the Ryerson University in Toronto – “endorses a number of solidarity tactics that have been called for by Palestinian civil society.”

Ryerson Student Union president Rajean Hoilett was quoted as having said he is calling for university and colleges in Ontario to not “remain complicit” through investments and ties with academic institutions that support or profit from what he termed “Israeli war crimes.”

When asked how the students’ union will accommodate dissenting opinions, Hoilett said the union has planned several panel discussions in which Ryerson students will be able to voice their views on the conflict.

He said that, at these events, it will be made clear that there “is no room for anti-Semitism or Islamophobia.”

The student union at Ryerson voted to join the BDS movementagainst Israel in April, capping a chain of anti-Israel decisions among Canadian institutions of higher education.

Just two weeks ago, Toronto’s York University student union voted to join the BDS movement. It was preceded by Windsor University in Ontario in early March. In mid-March, students at the University of Ottawalaunched a campaign to have Sabra hummus banned from campus because of its alleged connection with “Israel apartheid.”

Two weeks ago, Britain’s National Union of Students adopted a similar resolution.

Under the policy, which passed with 23 votes in favor, 18 against and oneabstention, student unions around the country could impose sanctions on Israel and support campaigns to boycott Israeli products on their university campuses.

  1. “Canada: Ontario University Students Join Boycott Against Israel”

This does not say much for the quality of our university students. Most of them are immature and lack any understanding of what is going on beyond their ivy walls.
Goebbels said “If you tell a lie often enough people will believe it.” These are those people.

The liberal Jews and establishment showed no interest.

Do you have any idea what percentage of the Jewish Community or how strong the Jewish liberal left is in TO or in Canada?
    Thanks

  3. Ted Belman Said:

The liberal Jews and establishment showed no interest

    Not even the establishment! Pity.

Thanks for the information. I know that area fairly well. I was just looking there at my old haunts on Google map view – amazing technology! …nostalgic.

  4. @ Max: The speech took place at Shaarei Tefillah Congregation. Every Zionist organization promoted it to their membership, including Toronto Zionist Council, JDL, Shirley Anne Haber who has a major list of activists and even CIJA and also Canada _Israel Organization.

The Jewish TRibune published an article of mine which promoted my speech. The Canadian Jewish News put it in their events column.
The people who attended were by and large, people who knew me or my blog. The liberal Jews and establishment showed no interest. I didn’t have enough celebrity like Glick has. In fact no celebrity outside my followers.
    There were 140 in attendance.

    1) What happened to the .com domain?

occupied and conquered by Islamic Fascists with the co-operation of the Western ISP’s. They wanted a return to pre-1993 domains and Palapundit from the the rumours to the scene.

Can’t Ted fight that? If Ted let the domain name expire, he goofed. If NOT, he has a legal case. In the USA, screwing with a website is serious, and the domain and hoster are in the USA.

As for “the vibrant Jewish population in Toronto,” the majority of the vibrant are to be found behind closed doors

An example is Ted Belman’s latest speech in TO. Being familiar with TO I wondered where it had taken place and if it had been advertised to the public. The location in the video was disguised though probably was a synagogue and no advertisement here or apparently to the public in advance.

I deduce they are afraid of unwelcome visitors or attention.

    afraid…with just cause.

I wonder how are things at the YHCA down in the annex.. bet it’s not so open door any more.
    (pause …googling)

Yikes! It’s now called the Miles Nadal JCC ,whadaya know!

I wonder if the annex atmosphere is now like Immigrant Islamic- with Leftist Alliance Israeli haters – living in rooming houses and/or in Annex it would mean something – used to be a nice atmosphere – maybe it’s better not to find out – the big cities are toasted now anyway (NSFL) (Not Safe For Living Things).

  8. 1) What happened to the .com domain?

    2) Israel has to go in with boots and re-occupy and win or the world will forever blame Israel.

The Arabs have turned this into an Alamo where Ismail Haniya is Jim Bowie, and Netanyahu is now portrayed as Santa Ana.

If Hamas survives at all, they will be seen as heroes and the victors. I know it will cause Israeli lives, but Gaza has to be re-occupied.

This is not the battle of the Alamo, but the Battle of Berlin. Israel is going to have to bite the bullet and go in and destroy every last Hamas soldier.

Otherwise, Israel is showing a lack of will.

You could soften them up with a cut off of all electricity and water, but Israel MUST GO IN WITH BOOTS!

Starving them into submission will be seen as cowardice. Hamas leaders must be captured.

  9. PM Harper said such good things in Israel, but that was in Israel. He has said nothing about the antisemitism in Canada, especially in our universities. Saying is one thing, doing is another. As for “the vibrant Jewish population in Toronto,” the majority of the vibrant are to be found behind closed doors or silent, or else excoriative of the Jews and the JDL, anyone who stands up to these antisemites.

  10. The students everywhere, and their academic “masters,” are becoming simply a bore. They have no credibility and certainly no discriminating intelligence, so it would be better if they were to be simply ignored.

  11. Executive member Anna Goldfinch said the motion to join the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (or BDS) Movement received no opposition at its annual general meeting last weekend.

    .. no opposition
The terrorists take advantage of the passivity of the students.
Democracy must be militant – passive democracy allows fascists to take over.
So this is not surprising at all, the Canadian public has been indoctrinated to be passive by a repressive oligarchy.
The students are simply being “good Canadians” by endorsing Fascism and doing as they are told.

  12. Israeli legalists seek extradition of Hamas terrorist to US
Shurat Hadin Israel Law Center submits request to U.S. attorney-general that the U.S. demand extradition of Salah al-Arouri from Turkey • Request comes on heels of Arouri’s public confirmation that Hamas was behind murder of three Israeli teenagers.
    http://www.israelhayom.com/site/newsletter_article.php?id=19603

shurat Ha Din appears to be the one org with a sensible focus, atacking on the legal front and in the purse. this is an area that should have full gov backing but the GOI is afraid that they would claim the legal rights of Jewish settlement in YS and sue the GOI for obstructing those rights rather than encouraging them as legally obligated to do. As usual the problem begins in Israel just as the global hasbara problem of anti semitism begins with Israeli leftists and media. If the Israeli left weren’t spreading their 5th column libels the world wouldn’t be able to use them as support for their own libels.

  13. No Ted, we have not lost. We just have hurdles to overcome. In my world the Jew haters are being forced to either take a hike or respond appropriately.

Example. I met someone this summer (actually a few like him) who was terrified of Jews. I am being observed closely. When he watched how I responded to children he thought how could I be so wrong? He use to complain about me profusely. This past weekend he prepared a delicacy and brought it to me with a smile. He looked so fearful in my eyes as he gave it to me and was nervously happy that I accepted it.

  14. BDS is a terrorsist grop with terrorist aims and terrorist motivations.
    ..

We need a movement and petition to declare BDS movement a terrorist group in Canada.

Then we can charger these student organizations with terrorism i f not treason since the terrorism is directed on the behalf of Hamas against both Israels and Western Civilization..

  15. Another instance of youth being indoctrinated instead of being educated. Instead of researching history for the truth, they blindly believe the Pallywood propaganda. One more reason the followers of Islam should be removed from Western civilization.
