PELONI: In the JNS article linked below, we are reminded of the cost of short term victories with long term costs.
Sovereignty requires independence, self reliance, and confidence. All of this and more is belied by Israeli dependence on the US endorsement of any given candidate. Indeed, the internationalization of Israel’s sovereign rights and Israel’s sovereign decisions (elections) is the entire problem which exists in the US-Israeli relationship. From the High Court to the Prime Minister, references to international authorities or leaders, as if they might have greater authority than Israel’s own institutions and leaders is what is drawing sickness from the well and poisoning the future of Israel. Netanyahu represents the most capable leader in Israel, and for that reason he deserves to continue in that position, but for him to do so while gaining the support of America comes with the lingering ties which have kept the concept of the Two State Solution active long after its demise and has banned the implementation of Jewish sovereignty over Jewish lands, presumably indefinitely. Trump should be offered no authority in Israel’s extension of sovereignty over Judea and Samaria, just as Huckabee should be offered no authority in voicing who is and is not an actual terrorist, if for no other reason than they have each demonstrated a lack of competence in these respective actions.
Notably, in Netanyahu’s speech before the UN, in his speech at the October 7 remembrance, and in his interviews with Mark Levin and even his discussion on the new Security Doctrine, he made reference to the concern of the Hilltop Youth as if they were some form of national emergency plaguing the land without any mention in any of these events of the expanding terrorism taking place in Judea and Samaria which is at the hands of Arabs not Jews. Importantly Netanyahu did make reference to the need to wait for the details to be determined before rushing to judgement in the incident including a Washington Post reporter, but this belies the tragedy which he offered our enemies in voicing concern over the Hilltop Youth selectively over and over again. This was a great victory to our enemies, and added to the recriminations waged against Israel even by its American allies, despite these recriminations being based entirely on the same form of rush to judgement which Netanyahu finally chastised the world from doing in the case of the Washington Post reporter.
“There’s been enough,” the president told reporters. “It’s time to stop now.”
