My appeal to the Prime Minister ahead of his important visit to the U.S.:
In brief — no to a partial deal, a big yes to expanding the Abraham Accords, but no to an agreement with the Syrian terror regime.
Honorable Prime Minister,
Ahead of your important visit to the United States, at the end of a historic and unprecedented campaign against the Iranian terror regime, I wish to draw your attention to several points concerning the campaign in Gaza and potential peace agreements.
A. Ending the campaign in Gaza:
Honorable sir, you and the War Cabinet defined two clear and measurable objectives for ending the campaign: the removal of all military threats from the Gaza Strip and the return of the hostages.
The emerging deal is highly problematic, both in terms of removing the military threat and the return of the hostages. Another partial deal, which would leave behind at least ten live hostages, and would allow Hamas valuable recovery time and territorial gains in the form of another withdrawal of our forces from their positions, does not serve the achievement of the war’s goals.
In my view, there is no place for another partial deal. Any deal at this stage must include the disarmament of Hamas, the return of all the hostages without exception, and permanent control over key areas from the entire northern perimeter — including Beit Hanoun, the ridges overlooking the eastern outskirts of Gaza City, a wide perimeter in the center of the strip, and full control from the Morag axis southward.
Additionally, to allow members of the government to form a serious opinion and not serve as a rubber stamp for a pre-made decision, you are obligated to ensure that the full list of all terrorists intended for release in any deal be published — including their actions and roles before and during their imprisonment — unlike the previous deal. Then, during the weeks leading up to its approval, it was said that 150 lifetime prisoners (older and less well-known individuals who had served most of their terms) would be released. But at the crucial moment, a list of nearly 300 lifetime prisoners was presented, including the perpetrators of the Ramallah lynching and top masterminds behind the most severe attacks of the Second Intifada, responsible for over 700 murdered Israelis and thousands of wounded — without any precise details about their actions or roles, and without notification to a significant number of terror victims’ families.
B. Expanding the Abraham Accords:
As a peace-seeking nation, there is no greater blessing than expanding peace agreements with additional Arab states — both in the immediate and broader circles. Especially when done from a position of strength.
Nevertheless, I find it necessary to warn against any agreement with Syria under Muhammad al-Sharaa. A jihadi terrorist and former al-Qaeda member does not turn overnight into a peace partner, even if he wears a fine suit, even if half the world takes pictures with him and lifts sanctions off his country.
Al-Sharaa is a terrorist deserving of death, a barbaric mass murderer, and with very high probability — the next Sinwar. His ideology is no different in the slightest from that of Hamas: an Islamic caliphate under Sharia law — that is his vision, and there is no other. No agreement should be made with this terrorist.
It is clearly evident that the new leadership echelon he appointed in Syria is made up of Israel-haters and Hamas supporters who are active in Hamas-Syria operations and have, on many occasions, praised the October 7th massacre.
For example:
-
The new Syrian Justice Minister, Mazhar Alweis, declared: “Al-Aqsa Flood has restored dignity to the entire Muslim world.”
-
The former Prime Minister of the rebel government in Idlib, Ali Qadeh, who now accompanies [Abu Muhammad] al-Julani in international meetings.
-
Mustafa Mousa, head of Julani’s Shura Council and effectively the one responsible for Syria’s top appointments — both of them participated in events supporting the massacre and in memorials for Sinwar.
Al-Sharaa needs a “hudna” (truce) only because he is currently too weak to fight us. But all of his army’s training will be invested in a future war against Israel.
There is no reason to turn a blind eye to the serious threat forming in the north. The calm we buy cheaply today will come at a high cost in a decade.
Al-Sharaa’s patron is Erdogan, whose rhetoric toward us continues to escalate — just a month ago, Erdogan called to destroy Israel. We’ve already learned not to dismiss the declarations of our enemies.
The fundamentalist Shiite axis will be replaced by the Sunni axis — unless we are fortunate enough to witness a determined democratic struggle that will lead to the downfall of the tyrant in Ankara.
Wishing you great success in your visit.
“The LORD gives strength to His people; the LORD blesses His people with peace.”
So far, Trump is the most pro-Israel president, ever. He actually thinks through and does things in both America’s and Israel’s interests.
He is America’s president first and last. When Israel’s and America’s interests coincide which is about 90% of the time, then his actions help both our countries.
If Trump thinks America’s interests in a particular matter helps America but not Israel then so be it. Israel and its leaders can voice their displeasure, but I will tell you that 99% of the time I trust Trump more than any Leftist Jew in Israel or any Leftist Jew in America and it’s not even close.
Chuck Schumer and the 30 or so other Jewish Democrats in Congress are on the same side as AOC, Tlaib and Ilhan Omar and the rest of The Squad and these Jews in Congress never say anything against them. Not one Jew in Congress switched parties after the October 7th invasion. Not one. They are not to be trusted – ever.
@John Galt IV
This is true, but we are not talking about Congressional Jews. Nor Leftitst Jews in Israel. When Trump sees US interests diverging from that of Israel, such as took place in the hours before he was even president when Israel was forced to surrender its positions to Hamas, his actions were in contradiction to the Right Wing Jews in Israel, and in support of the Leftist Jews in both the US and Israel who wanted Israel to surrender to Hamas from the start of the war.
Importantly, Trump wants the war to end today. This can not and must not be agreed to.
Doing so would be a complete contradiction of Bibi’s statement of just two days ago in which he asserted that Hamas will surrender or be destroyed. In fact, such a surrender by Israel could have been affected 15 months ago during which time many changes have taken place.
Importantly, what has changed in that time is that Iran is no longer its former self. the axis lies splintered and savaged, and yet Trump wants a deal. Acquiescing to such a demand would see the wounded Iranian leopard, which has no cards to play, using Trump’s own phrase, and which should be eliminated, will instead be bartered with as if they might value a peaceful future.
So neither Iran nor their instigators of terror on October 7 will be dealt a fatal blow, but will instead be awarded a new lease on life with which to succeed in the very same efforts which they have thus far failed to achieve, and yet have no intention of abandoning.
A lack of respect for the stated goals of both Iran’s govt and Hamas will prove to be a fatal misgiving, once again. The entire purpose of these forces is to slaughter Jews and subdue the West, and so long as they are rewarded with another chance to do the same, they will continue down this same path which has led to where we are today.
The outcome remains a choice of us vs them, and failing to act in accordance with the existential threat they intend for us, only serves to advantage them in achieving it.
So while Trump remains the most pro Israel president in history, he is nonetheless taking Israel down a path which Israel can not and must not go.
I completely agree with Chikli.
Is Trump truly looking for peace? Trump is a brilliant business man, who has built a very successful business, brand, and has had a successful life as husband, father, and grandfather.
It goes against logic and rationality to think terrorists make good negotiating partners. It also is irrational to think Jolani is a peacemaker because he wears a suit and says he is. Islamic terrorists lie as frequently as they need to, in order to get what they want from the infidel. For a man like Trump to believe him makes no sense. This is not like a bad business decision which at most will cost money. This is a decision that could result in another October 7th, another deadly massacre of more Israelis. Israelis cannot afford to make irrational decisions anymore.
Professor Gil-White says these actions by Trump prove he is going to keep Iran’s terror axis in place: he saved the Ayatollahs from death. Now he wants to protect Jolani so Jolani can destroy Israel tomorrow or next year. Oh and he’s extremely close with Qatar, a slave state that supports the Iranian regime, supports Hezbollah, and supports Hamas.
The only other explanation for these irrational decisions that put Israel at risk for little gain is that Trump is setting things up so the bad actors will get exposed. He’s been doing this for the internal enemies of the US to get exposed, and he’s been working on the same process with enemies from outside the US. He has shown himself consistently as supportive of Israel, and I don’t think that is fake.
We will eventually find out more about Trump’s motives. It is difficult to know someone’s motives if you do not know them personally!
Trump is not a Biden, someone who truly didn’t care if Israel was destroyed. To believe that Trump is no different from Biden vis a vis Israel (As Gil-White does) is to posit that Trump is a total fraud. I don’t see the data supporting that contention. He didn’t need to be President, he had a great life, but saw our country being destroyed. He hasn’t taken any salary, so he’s not in it for money either. He doesn’t need it for a sense of power, he had that with his businesses and, if anything, that sense of power was turned into a sense of powerlessness by the Obama people who wanted him destroyed. So the usual things that motivate psychopaths to run for high office just aren’t there for Trump. I think he is an honest person, yes he’s been an entertainer, but he also loves life and has lived a very full life, something of which psychopaths are incapable.
Time will tell us more.
