In an open letter to Donald Trump, climate expert Dr. Duane Thresher has urged the President not to give in to his daughter Ivanka’s misguided views on global warming and her insistence that the U.S. remain in the Paris climate agreement ratified by Barack Obama last August.
“Climate treaties like the Paris Agreement have little to do with climate,” Thresher notes in his letter, which he made available to Breitbart News. “They are about economic competition. As the greatest economy in the history of the world, other countries will do anything to cripple the United States.”
Thresher, who has a PhD in Earth & Environmental Sciences from Columbia University and NASA GISS and worked for years in climate monitoring, says he understands the President’s temptation to listen to his daughter’s advice, but begs him not to give in to that temptation.
“Countries like China will agree to anything in these treaties and simply ignore their obligations while demanding the United States fulfill theirs,” Thresher said, calling belief in global warming a “popular delusion.”
In his letter, Dr. Thresher also reminded President Trump of his campaign promises that led many Americans to vote for him.
“We who voted for you consider stopping this climate change madness one of your key promises,” Thresher said. “If you renege on it you will lose me and many others as supporters.”
After Trump’s election, in fact, a number of climate change skeptics were emboldened to take more public stands against the politically imposed “scientific consensus” of global warming, welcoming a new era of free debate about a hotly contested issue.
Scientists unconvinced by the party line on climate change applauded Trump’s appointment of Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt to head up the Environmental Protection Agency as an important step away from climate alarmism.
Even if Trump caves and stays in the Paris climate agreement, Thresher says, it won’t win him any friends. “Your opponents are not going to support you; they’ll just taunt you as being a flip-flopper,” he said.
“Climate science is one of the most fascinating sciences there is. To turn it into a lie for political purposes is a crime,” he stated, before urging the President to stand strong in his convictions.
“Make climate science great again,” he wrote.

Tree ring data suggests there have been temperature changes comparable to the present in the recent pre-industrial past. Alaska, largely empty, rose over 1 degree last year. Thus the vast natural climate forcing functions cannot be man-caused, and limiting economic activity cannot solve anything. Instead, technology including vast amounts of cheap electricity for heating and cooling, and market-driven migration of the sort that produced California(the historic human approach) must be part of the solution.

I am a retired chemist, who agrees with Dr. Williams and disagrees with Ivanka Kushner. I wonder if that makes me an antisemite? (Kushner is Jewish; Williams, as far as I know, is not). I also agree with the tenor of Sebastien Zorn’s critique. I guess that gets me off the “antisemite” hook a little, but not completely.
I think Ivanka’s husband will one day be bad news, for Christians and Jews alike. Anyone who would not only buy 666 Fifth Avenue at record-breaking, inflated prices, in order to make it the “crown jewel” of his financial empire because it sat at the “center of the world”, either is ignorant of the Bible or has an agenda against it. I expect Christians and Jews alike to worship him, before he turns and kills them — unless I am completely wrong, in which case I will rejoice for Jared’s sake.
Meanwhile, we have his worldly, ungodly advice, which he impresses on our President through his wife. We’ll see how this number plays out.
It’s so ridiculous on the face of it. Even without knowing anything about science. The whole thing is about global warming. But, that turns out to be nonsense. So, now they say, it’s about climate change. But they’re still talking about warming. Which it isn’t. But they can’t call it that. So they say, ok it’s climate change but talk about warming. Is that smarmy and disingenuous or what?
Now, here’s an example of real science. A cellist I knew about my age, up and died mysteriously. He was the only musician besides myself who always brought his own stand light to gigs knowing that if you don’t bring one, you will probably have to sit in darkness. Uh oh. Somebody could do a funny parody of the Global Warming Crazies in the form of a fashion magazine for trendy pseudo-scientists like Vogue except it’s Science Fashions. Dating advice books with titles like: “Global Warming, excuse me, Climate Change and the Single Girl.”
