To defend the Jews is to defend ourselves

One of the most frustrating things to watch is the powerful anti-Israeli and sometimes outright anti-Semitic current that is prevalent in too much of Europe’s media. Bat Ye’or’s predictions about Arab anti-Semitism spreading in Europe as the continent’s Islamization and descent into Eurabia continues have so far proved depressingly accurate. This trend needs to be fought, vigorously, by all serious European anti-Jihadists. Not only because it is immoral and unfair to Israelis, which it is, but also because those who assist it are depriving Europeans of the opportunity to fully grasp the threat and understand the nature of the Jihad that is now targeting much of Europe as well.
In 2005 the Norwegian police issued a mobile security alarm to Carl I. Hagen, leader of the right-wing Progress Party. Mr. Hagen had criticized Islam and could see no similarity with the concept of morality and justice found in Christianity. During the 1990s, Mr. Hagen was one of the few politicians who protested against giving money to Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat as a part of the Norwegian-brokered Oslo Peace Process.
Hagen said that if Israel loses in the Middle East, Europe will succumb to Islam next. He felt that Christians should support Israel and oppose Islamic inroads into Europe. In an unprecedented step, a group of Muslim ambassadors to Norway blasted Carl I. Hagen in a letter to the newspaper Aftenposten, claiming that he had offended 1.3 billion Muslims around the world. Other Norwegian politicians quickly caved in and condemned Hagen. Maybe Norway, “the country of peace” and home to the Nobel Peace Prize, will get along just fine with Islam, “the religion of peace.”
Although some political leaders such as Mr. Carl I. Hagen have a clear understanding of what’s going on, they are unfortunately few and far between. Most European media commentators are hostile to the Jewish state of Israel, partly because they get angry with anybody defending themselves against Islamic Jihad instead of surrendering, and partly because they want to project their own feelings of guilt from the Holocaust onto Israel by recasting the Jews as villains and the Palestinians as victims.
French filmmaker Pierre Rehov made the film Suicide Killers where he interviewed the families of Palestinian suicide bombers. He warns that we are facing “a neurosis at the level of an entire civilization,” a “culture of hatred in which the uneducated are brainwashed to a level where their only solution in life becomes to kill themselves and kill others in the name of a God. I hear a mother saying ‘Thank God, my son is dead.’ Her son had became a shaheed, a martyr, which for her was a greater source of pride than if he had became an engineer, a doctor or a winner of the Nobel Prize. […] They don’t see the innocent being killed, they only see the impure that they have to destroy.”
Rehov believes that we are dealing with “a new form of Nazism” that it is going to spread to Europe and the United States, too.
Spanish journalist Sebastian Villar Rodriguez claims that Europe died in Auschwitz: “We assassinated 6 million Jews in order to end up bringing in 20 million Muslims!” Yet in 2007, Ciempozuelos, a small Madrid suburb, refused to commemorate Holocaust Day and opted instead to commemorate the ‘Day of Palestinian Genocide.’ In Britain following Muslim pressure, the Bolton Council scrapped its Holocaust Memorial Day event. The Muslim Council of Britain asked for a Genocide Day to protest the Israeli “genocide” against the Palestinians. The secretary-general of the MCB, Dr Muhammad Abdul Bari, has earlier compared the situation of Muslims in Britain to Jews under Hitler.
We thus have the absurd situation where the Nazis of today are presented as Jews while the Jews are presented as Nazis.
French philosopher Alain Finkielkraut thinks that Auschwitz has become part of the foundation of the European Union, a culture based on guilt. “I can understand the feeling of remorse that is leading Europe to this, but this remorse goes too far.” It is too great a gift to present Hitler to reject every single aspect of European culture. This is said by the Jewish son of an Auschwitz prisoner.
The Holocaust was an unspeakable crime. It also did massive damage to Europe’s own identity and cultural confidence, and is one of the major causes of Europe’s seeming inability to withstand the ongoing Islamic Jihad.
As Hugh Fitzgerald notes, “Fortunately for so many, and for the Arabs, the victory of Israel in the Six-Day War promptly provided a reason to depict Jews as villains, not victims. This found an eager audience of Europeans, who were already eager for psychological reasons to find fault with Jews so as to avoid thinking unduly about the behavior of many European peoples and states during the war. […] The damage done to the morale of Europe because of the destruction of European Jewry has been great. If Western Europe, or the West generally, were after all that has happened to permit Israel to go under, Europe would not recover.”
He warns that those who believe sacrificing Israel would in any way stop the global Jihad are very wrong. On the contrary, “The loss of Israel would fill the Arabs and Muslims with such triumphalism that their Jihad in Western Europe and elsewhere (including the Americas) would receive a gigantic boost. The duty is to make sure that Islam covers the globe; that Islam dominates, and Muslims rule.”
Europeans need to understand how closely intertwined are the fates of Israel and of Europe itself. The term “Judeo-Christian” is not a cliche. We cannot defend Western civilization without defending its Jewish component, without which modern Western culture would have been unthinkable.
The religious identity of the West has two legs: The Christian and the Jewish ones. It needs both to stand upright. Sacrificing one to save the other is like fighting a battle by chopping off one of your legs, throwing it at the feet of your enemies and shouting: “You won’t get the other one! We will never surrender!” We could always hope that our enemies will laugh themselves to death faster than we bleed to death, the Monty Python way of fighting. Maybe that works, but most likely it will leave us crippled and pathetic, if not dead.
I agree with Mr. Finkielkraut: To reduce absolutely everything about Europe to gas chambers, thereby allowing the Nazis the opportunity to expropriate everything that has been created during thousands of years, is to grant Adolf Hitler victory posthumously. We should not award him that pleasure, especially since what would replace Western civilization would be Islamic culture, the most warlike and anti-Semitic on earth, and greatly admired by Mr. Hitler for it.
We cannot change what has happened in the past. We should, however, consider it our duty to combat anti-Semitism in the here and now and make sure that the remaining Jews both in Europe and in Israel are safe. This is not just because it is our moral and historical obligation, which it is, but also because we only gain the right to defend ourselves against Islamization of we grant the same right to Israel. Likewise, we can only begin to heal our self-inflicted civilizational wounds if we embrace the Jewish component of our cultural identity.
Fjordman is a noted Norwegian blogger who has written for many conservative web sites. He used to have his own Fjordman Blog in the past, but it is no longer active.
Fjordman’s articles play well on blogs such as Israpundit.
The fact is however that his views do not have appeal in much of the EU. EU leaders and much of EU society either disagree with Fjordman or knowing he is right, have no better solution to withstand the transformative forces of Islam then continuing to fecklessly try to appease Muslims in the false hope that appeasement will ultimately prevent or at least forestall Europe’s transformation into Eurabia.
There are however a few hopeful signs that some EU nations are starting to take some tentative steps towards trying to stand firm behind their own cultural values.
Only with greater and more successful efforts by EU leaders to resist Muslim efforts to transform their society, to reduce their dependance on oil and thus be less beholden to the OPEC nations and finally to stiffen their resolve not to be pushed by fear of the Muslim world, will EU leaders change their people’s attitudes.
If such change in attitude can begin within the EU, there will likely be a commensurate shift in EU attitudes away from being anti-Israel, to at least being balanced, if not becoming pro-Israel, especially if the EU can come to see that Israel is fighting the very same battle with Islamofascists as is the EU and the only difference is different battle fronts.
Without such change in attitude however, things will remain the same, the EU will continue its transformative slide into becoming Eurabia and voices like Fjordman’s will continue to be disagreed with and ignored.
As with most problems, it takes a great deal of intelligence to properly identify what the problem is, but it takes genius to find a solution and courage to put that solution into effect.
Thus far, the EU and the West generally lacks that requisite genius and courage.
Matthew I read your excellent post with interest, but you’re missing something I feel is very important. I have to say (and I’m sure I won’t be popular for this) that we could be said to be the autors of our own demise, so to speak. The wonderful, all encompassing “Multiculturalism” has become a monster, (and we have to face up to the fact, it’s a monster Jews were in the forefront of creating). In our rush to seem tolerant and to “embrace all”, we’ve enabled multiculturalism to deprive people of human rights at the expense of others. Take Geert Wilders’ courageous film, Fitna. Who were the main people shouting him down? The Board of Deputies of Dutch Jews. It’s not surprising therefore, is it, that the ordinary Dutchman in the street, seeing this, starts to question which side Dutch Jews are on? The Dutch Board of Deputies has handed the Islamists a victory on a plate. There was an incident in the UK recently where a Downs Syndrome child pushed a Muslim Downs Syndrome child over, and now it’s blown up beyond all proportion, it’s now a race-hate incident and being milked for all it’s worth. So, it’s not so much whether Jews are “over-represented” or not, but it’s a question of what we, as Jews have enabled and the consequences of such.
I really agree with what you said about Jews in Europe working for the good of all communities in their countries, not just their own.
This is an excellent article by Fjordman, and I particularly agree that Europe should support Israel’s survival.
We could go on for hours trying to find the root cause of European Jew hatred. I’ve spoken to many people,Jew and non-Jew to try and get some answers, and what kept on cropping up was again and again “Jews are over-represented in public life”, “they have a monopoly in world finance”, “they are too powerful”, “they seem to have a pathology to over reach themselves and when it goes wrong they take other people with them”, “all they care about is Jews and what’s good for Jews and Israel”, “they have dual loyalties – to their own countries and to Israel. If it came to the crunch they’d support Israel over and above their own countries”. These comments go far beyond simple jealousy. People who think like this lose sight of the fact that Jews living among them are exactly the same as they are – good and bad in equal measure. Then, as if to complicate matters further, you come across Jews who agree with these statements, too, and invariably they are the ones who are scared stiff of what is happening, they “don’t want any trouble” and just want to blend in. What worries me particularly are two of the above statements:
“Jews are over-represented in public life” and
“they have dual loyalties – to their own countries and to Israel. If it came to the crunch they’d support Israel over and above their own countries”.
Anybody with the minimum level of intelligence and who was looking for an excuse to resent Jews would sieze on the first topic, and automatically assume that Jews in particular got their influence in public life by nefarious methods, and quite frankly, to see the way some Jews behave, the second topic would seem relevant, too. The Jew-haters would milk this for all it was worth, no matter how false the statement is. So what’s the answer? Move to Israel en masse? Not possible for many Jews, who have made their lives in other countries, and are happy and successful. There’s the rub, you see – and when the Jew haters see these Jews UNWILLING to move to the country they support so much, yet some of these same Jews resort to less than acceptable tactics to squash even legitimate criticism of Israel, to the point of outright intimidation – I believe this is a massive opening for those who hate Jews, and could even pull those who couldn’t give a damn one way or the other into the Jew hating equation. No, the answer as always is to be pragmatic. Not all Jews are able to live in Israel – and many Jews do not want to. In order to protect themselves both from the loony left and Islamofascism, they have to envelope themselves in the wider communities where they live, and most importantly work for the good of all, not just Jews. I’m not saying they should not support Israel and work actively for her well-being, but they also have to be very aware of how living in one country and supporting another, looks to their non-Jewish neighbours.
Persecution of Jewish Physicians by the Church:
Medicine in Europe during the Middle Ages found itself restricted by the Christian Church. The church taught that it was irreligious to seek a natural cure from a physician when one could obtain supernatural help from a priest. Some church leaders criticized medical schools because they taught that diseases and disorders came from natural means and not from the evil efforts of Satan.
With medicine in such ill repute among Christians, much of the leadership by the 10th century was provided by Jews and Muslim scholars. Jews were largely responsible for founding the medical Schools at Salerno and Montpellier in the 10th century.
Pope Eugene IV, Nicholas V and Calixtus III forbade Christians from using the services of a Jewish physician. The Trullanean Council in the 8th century; Béziers Council & Alby Council in the 13th century; Avignon council & Salamanca Council in the 14th century, the Synod of Bamberg in the 15th century; the Council of Avignon in the 16th century, etc. also ordered Christians to not seek healing from Jewish physicians and surgeons. This continued even into the 17th century when the city of Hall in Würtemberg (in what is now Germany) granted some privileges to a Jewish physician “on account of his admirable experience and skill.” The clergy of Hall complained that “it were better to die with Christ than to be cured by a Jew doctor aided by the devil.”
1543: In his 20’s, Martin Luther, had expected Jews to convert to Christianity in large numbers. Distressed by their reluctance, he developed a hatred for Jews, as expressed in his letters to Rev. Spalatin in 1514, when he was 31 years of age. He wrote:
“I have come to the conclusion that the Jews will always curse and blaspheme God and his King Christ, as all the prophets have predicted….For they are thus given over by the wrath of God to reprobation, that they may become incorrigible, as Ecclesiastes says, for every one who is incorrigible is rendered worse rather than better by correction.” 6
In 1543, he wrote “On the Jews and their lies, On Shem Hamphoras” :
“…eject them forever from this country. For, as we have heard, God’s anger with them is so intense that gentle mercy will only tend to make them worse and worse, while sharp mercy will reform them but little. Therefore, in any case, away with them!…What then shall we Christians do with this damned, rejected race of Jews?

The conversion from religiously-based to racially-based persecution:
Prior to 1800 CE: Persecution was directed at followers of Judaism because of their religious beliefs; it has been referred to as anti-Judaism. CE, Jews could escape oppression by converting to Christianity, and being baptized. The Christian church taught in past centuries that all Jews (past, present and future) were responsible for Jesus’ death. The Church also believed that some Jews must be allowed to live, because the biblical book of Revelation indicated that they had a role to play in the “end times.” They concluded that it was acceptable to make Jews’ lives quite miserable.
Since about 1800: “…Nationalism became a dominant value in the Western and Arab worlds…antisemitism increasingly focused on the Jews’ peoplehood and nationhood.” 15 Persecution became a form of racism, and has generally been called “anti-Semitism” — a word “created by an antisemite, Wilhelm Marr [in 1879]. As one can see that the Jewish experience in Europe condemns all Europeans of committing atrocities and hatred toward the Jews. I for one would love to live long enough to see a Muslim take over of all of Europe, That would be for me a form of poetic Justice. I would thwen gladly say that there is a G-d in Heaven!
Therefore, LOVE can be considered HATE – the kind of love that the Catholic Pope and Islamic Leaders and Democratic Politicians preach, but don’t practice.

European Jew Hatred:
The Europeans are genetic Jew haters. They have hated Jews from the first moment they (the Greeks) came in contact with Jews 2300 years ago. They have always been able to find reasons to hate the Jews and want them dead. Sixty years ago they tortured and slaughtered six million (90%) of Europe’s Jews and drove the few of them left to Israel. Now they are paying the Muslims to finish off the Israeli Jews.
Here is a partial list of the “reasons” they give currently for their Jew-hatred:
1. Traditional Christian Jew-hatred. The current German Nazi pope actually chose a verse from the so-called “new” testament at his mass in Washington DC that featured the phrase “for fear of the Jews”.
2. German resentment at being recognized as the savages that they are: they now say that Jews are the real nazis as shown by their “genocide” of the palestinians, and that while Hitler may have been “excessive” in torturing and slaughtering six million Jews, he was driven to it by his realization of how “evil” the Jews really are.
3. The French inferiority complex: DeGaulle was driven crazy by America’s rise to super world power and France becoming a third rate power while losing Algeria, so he set about to restore the “balance of power” that had been the mainstay of European diplomacy. He established the European Union(which he was sure France would lead) to oppose America in everything, enlisted the Muslims as natural allies, and sold out Israel.
4. The liberal hatred of Israel as representing a white fascist colonialist imperial state and standing in the way of the multicultural one world government they strive for.
5. The hereditary aristocrats who are born wealthy and cannot compete on equal grounds with the smart and ambitious Jews.
6. The thuggish master-race neo-Nazis who compete with Jews by killing them.
So if you think that leaves enough Europeans who like Jews to ever change the European attitude, you are as crazy and delusional as the Europeans themselves are.
