Gert Wilders acquitted of all hate charges. Hurray.

Jihad Watch

In a great victory for decency and sanity, the Court of Amsterdam has acquitted Geert Wilders of all charges.

Wilders remarked:

“I am delighted with this ruling. It is a victory, not only for me but for all the Dutch people. Today is a victory for freedom of speech. The Dutch are still allowed to speak critically about islam, and resistance against islamisation is not a crime. I have spoken, I speak and I shall continue to speak.”

Pamela Geller lists these as the charges against Wilders:

  1. Intentionally offending Muslims
  2. Inciting hatred against Muslims
  3. Inciting discrimination against Muslims
  4. Inciting hatred of non-western immigrants

On each, he was acquitted. It is a great victory for common sense, and a decisive defeat for the Islamic supremacist forces that have been trying to destroy the freedom of speech and compel dhimmi Western governments to label the truth about Islam and jihad as “hate speech.” But we are not out of the woods yet. The forces that were responsible for the persecution and prosecution of Wilders will not give up, and will pursue similar charges against others. We may only hope that this verdict will set a strong precedent that will make it even less likely that they will succeed in the future. Nonetheless, we will not be completely clear of this kind of Stalinist show trial until “hate speech” laws are definitively rejected as the tools of tyranny that they manifestly are.

  1. We have heard it said for years that Geert Wilders is so very very pro-Israel. The question is than, always “which Israel”. In his case he remembers fondly life in a kibbutz as a volunteer. No, no religion. Just socialism. For Wilders that is Israel. So nice.
All this Biblical stuff should not interfere. Ah, are those Jews actually the biblical Tribes? This is not the Israel Geert admires.
Will the shechita be forbidden in Holland? Very likely. What it means? That antisemitism is coming back speedily. As in the fourties? That is the direction but there is still a lot of hope that this point won’t be reached.
If I were a Jew living in Holland I would NOT be living there but be on my way to Schiphol.

  2. He was rightly acquitted, but as Lea de Lange rightly says, let’s not fool ourselves. Wilders has his own agenda and it’s not ours. The anti-hate laws protect us as well as the Muslims against the extremists and the neo-Nazis. They just have to be applied with commonsense and a respect for freedom of speech.

  3. A victory for freedom. I am glad. Of course Geert is in even greater peril now because the forces that made him live the life of a fugitive for so long will try even harder now that they lost in court. A scandal from the beginning, to even hold sessions about the absurd charges being brought against Wilders.
I was greatly disappointed though when learning that Geert Wilders, the great hope for Freedom, will vote AGAINST another important freedom, the freedom to slaughter cattle in accordance with Jewish law (shechita). Wilders is against shechita. And looming not far behind is another threatened religious freedom. The Brit Mila – circumcision – for the small number of Jews remaining in Holland. It may become forbidden to do this according to Jewish law on the 8th day of a baby. The baby “has to grow up and decide for himself…”
So Freedom. Yes. But not for all Dutch citizens.

  4. Congrtulations to one of the world’s finest patriots and one of Israel’s best friends. If many more were like Mr. Wilders, this world would be more peaceful.
