This summer will mark 25th years since of one of the most horrific terrorist attacks not just during what’s known as the Second Intifada, but in Israeli history. At the August 9th bombing of the Sbarro pizzeria, 130 were wounded and 16 people were killed, including seven children and a pregnant woman. One of the children murdered was 15-year-old Malki Roth, one of two American murdered that day. All these years later, her family is still seeking justice.

Ahlam Tamimi was the mastermind of the suicide attack. She was arrested and sentenced to prison. Tamimi was released from Israeli prison to her native Jordan as part of the 2011 deal to free captured Israeli soldier, Gilad Shalit, where she has been roaming free since. In fact she is a celebrity in Jordan and the Arab world as presenter of her own TV show beamed throughout Jordan and all over the world. Today, Tamimi is America’s most wanted female fugitive with a $5 million reward on her head.

It’s unimaginable that anyone would send his child off for a slice of pizza in the morning, and then have to bury her the next day. This is the pain that Arnold Roth has had to live with for more than 20 years, pain that has been made even greater by his daughter’s murderer being set free and now being harbored by Jordan despite an extradition agreement with the US.. We will hear a father’s pain, learn about the BBC and others who have provided cover for the terrorist, and look at the big picture and hopes for bringing Tamimi to justice.

Arnold Roth is honorary chairperson of Keren Malki, the Israel-based charity in memory of his murdered daughter, Malki. He is a seasoned manager with three decades of background as a commercial lawyer, senior corporate manager and entrepreneur, principally in the technology sphere. Born and educated in Australia, he made aliyah with his wife and children in 1988. When the mastermind of the massacre that took their daughter’s life was freed in the Shalit Deal, the Roths began a campaign to have her prosecuted under a very-little-used US federal terrorism law. Charges were eventually issued but Jordan shields Tamimi, breaching its extradition treaty with the US. Pursuing justice continues to be on the Roths’ agenda. What is preventing justice from being served now? What can be done? How can we help.
