I had several thoughts in understanding what’s going on here, but at the end of the day it seems that the correct possibility is that Witkoff and Kushner are lying here. And here’s why:

It’s clear to us that Trump and his people cannot declare that he knew about the attack. That would implicate him with Qatar.

Therefore, the official version certainly denies it. However, Witkoff’s body language — touching his face, closing his eyes, and looking right and left precisely when he says that they knew nothing and felt betrayed — as opposed to later on, when he looks straight at the camera and speaks coherently — suggests that there is a coordinated lie here, most likely.

That’s also why Netanyahu doesn’t explicitly say that Trump knew. He cannot throw Trump under the bus.

Needless to say, it’s possible that Trump also wasn’t explicitly updated from the outset, in order to allow him to deny it later, but that a message was conveyed to him along the lines of, “I understand there’s no choice but to take a dramatic action that will shake Qatar, so that it will finally decide to cut itself off from Hamas,” or something similar.

I’ll note that I haven’t checked Witkoff’s body language throughout the entire interview, but what’s happening here, in my opinion, speaks for itself. The rhetoric of “we felt betrayed” is meant precisely for that — to create headlines and the appearance that Trump didn’t know, supposedly, in order to conceal the lie.

Very astute article. There were a number of rumors that the Americans were informed that they were not in danger. Maybe they were given too much information because the story was posted that the attack was not successful in eliminating all the expected targets. That amounts to US betrayal rather than Israeli, but it did allow the US forces to remain at ease rather than attempting to block the attack.
