  • Rebels Battle in Assad Stronghold of Damascus
For nearly 12 hours Saturday, rebels armed mainly with assault rifles fought Syrian forces in the heaviest fighting in Damascus since the uprising began. The fighting began in two neighborhoods, Qaboun and Barzeh, on Friday when troops opened fire on anti-Assad opposition gatherings and rebels responded, witnesses said. On Saturday, in Kafr Sousa, fighting began after rebels attacked a Syrian forces checkpoint. (AP-Fox News)

Damascus is increasingly turning on the Assad regime. Recently, security forces opened fire in the center of the capital to disperse a small gathering of peaceful demonstrators just a few hundred meters from parliament. The mood has markedly shifted away from the regime over the last couple of months. The decision by Damascene merchants to go on an unprecedented strike in response to the Houla killings marked an important escalation of local defiance.

The rebels now control a widening swath of territory in north and central Syria. They use it as a base for storing and manufacturing weapons and for launching attacks against government soldiers in previously peaceful parts of the country.

  1. @ yamit82:

Oh no, the dreaded Rothschilds. How likely that this comes from an antisemitic website? These conspiracy theory types who go on about international bankers tend to be antisemitic.

Is The End Nigh: Rockefellers And Rothschilds Merge

“You know its bad when… two of the largest and best-known ‘familia’ in Europe and the US come together. As the FT reports, The Rockefellers and The Rothschilds are uniting under a common group as Rothschild Investment Trust and Rockefeller Financial Services become one. The patriarchs (David Rockefeller 96, and Lord Rothschild 76) have been ‘connected’ for five decades. Between the Rothschild’s ‘sprawling’ multi-century banking empire across Europe and the Rockefeller’s roots in 1882 Oil-money, we can only imagine the Illuminati, Freemasons, Templars, and Central Bankers of the world are quaking in their boots at this new global force for change – The Rothsellers or is it The Rockchilds. What next? It seems only Soros is left to complete the holy trinity…”

  4. US sings to Syria: ‘We will, we will bomb you!’

So now the Western Powers are having a temper tantrum and want to see “regime change” in Syria one way or another. If Russia and China blocked NATO bombings, well then let’s just bring in the Al-Qaeda “SWAT” Team and other “freedom fighting” thugs so they can do the bombing for us.

Isn’t it strange that over the past two years Hilary Clinton has publicly admitted on FoxNews and CNN that it was the US who “created, trained and armed Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan to fight the Soviet invasion of the 80’s”, and that “once the Soviets left, we just washed our hands and left the Taliban, Muhadejeen and Al-Qaeda with all those Stinger missiles and arms” running around Afghanistan?

Wasn’t it Tony Blair’s Foreign Secretary Robin Cook who told The Guardian newspaper in June 2005 that “Al Qaeda was created by the US and the name means ‘the file’” – the CIA file containing lists of all those cute Al-Qaeda operatives? Too bad for big-mouth Robin as he promptly “died of a heart attack” just two months later in rather dubious circumstances…

Wasn’t it Jimmy Carter’s national security advisor Zbigniew Brzezinksi – co-founder and ideologue of the Rockefeller/Rothschild Trilateral Commission – who told the French “Nouvelle Observateur” magazine in 1998 that he masterminded the CIA’s “Operation Cyclone” which in early July 1979 whipped-up Taliban fighters against the pro-soviet regime in Kabul, thus triggering the soviet invasion of Afghanistan; boasting with president Carter that the soviets now had their Vietnam War?. All trained, financed, armed and supported by the US, Saudi Arabia, UK, Pakistan and Israel?

  5. It looks like the end is near for Assad

I agree, and I don’t like it. That massacre that tipped the scales, was a staged event by the rebels, which brings back memories of Srebrenica. It was Sunnis killing Shiites, and trying to make it look like just the opposite. The world was buffaloed by NATO’s propaganda, and is getting sucked into another imperialist takeover in the Arab world (to be turned over, as usual, to the Muslim Brotherhood).

Russia seems to be backing off — in Orwellian Newspeak, “Oceania is allied with Eurasia. It has always been allied with Eurasia”. Turkey, fortunately, has withdrawn from the rebel side, so perhaps Israel will just have anarchy, civil war and the Brotherhood to deal with. This is good; because in this confused state, Israel could probably get away with occupying Southern Syria to secure the rockets and chemical weapons. I CERTAINLY hope they are prepared for this contingency and not, as Israel seems to have been for years now, ASLEEP AT THE SWITCH.

Iran comes out of this unscathed. All they have to do is join the rats fleeing Assad’s sinking ship, without letting on that this is what they’re doing. Obama will then give them an election season pass, to do whatever they want with building nuclear weapons with which to attack Israel.

I doubt that any of this will turn out the way ANYONE is hoping it will. It is a colossal mess, the result of the UTTER FAILURE of Obama’s foreign policy; and I HOPE THAT DIMWIT ROMNEY HAS THE SENSE AND TIMING TO KNOW HOW TO HANDLE THIS. If he doesn’t, then we’ll have to choose between someone who hates Israel (Obama) and a dimwit. I’ll vote for the dimwit, in that case.

I hope Bibi, Barak and the IDF are at least a little bit prepared for this — at the very least, I hope they take the lens caps off their binoculars before using them.
