The recent Sharia-Free America Caucus hearings revealed a very unsettling and growing threat.

Whenever patriots rise to defend America from radical Islam, liberals dismiss them as alarmist or Islamophobic. Therefore, criticism is likely to increase after the February 10th Sharia Free America hearings of the House Subcommittee on the Constitution and Limited Government. But not only is the threat real, it also grows stronger from apologists who insist that Islam is a religion of peace, even though Islamist groups openly swear by its medieval tenets of world conquest.
Fortunately, many House Republicans are standing against this growing threat. In less than a month, 26 representatives from 17 states have joined the Sharia-Free America Caucus, led by Representatives Keith Self (R-TX-3) and Chip Roy (R-TX-21). Their goal is to protect the Constitution and defend individual freedoms and the American way of life by passing laws to prevent sharia from invading our civic life and courts.
Islamic customs already dominate areas like Hamtramck, Michigan, Buffalo’s East Side, and Dar al-Islam in Abiquiu, New Mexico. The upcoming City Project at the East Plano Islamic Center in northern Texas is promoted as an “epicenter of Islam in America.” In our courts, references to sharia often appear in cases involving marriage, divorce, contracts, and other legal matters based on religious law.
The caucus’s initiatives include a no-sharia bill introduced in the Senate in October to prevent immigrants who support sharia from entering, and Proposition 10, which aims to ban sharia in Texas and will be voted on during the March primary. Texas already has a law that bans sharia compounds in residential developments. Similar laws exist in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, North Carolina, and South Dakota.
Rep. Self warns of a gradual takeover through the formation of enclaves. “First, it would just be ‘We want a community.’ Then, the police can’t enter. And then, the contracts and covenants of the place say you may buy if you’re the right kind of person, you may sell to the right kind of person,” he explains. Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN), also a caucus member, says, “Islam is a religion of violence, abuse of women, and ruthless political conquest. Its laws and practices have no place in American society.”
While the centuries-old Islamic principles of jihad, taqiyya, and da’wah are well known, many people believe they are no longer actively practiced. Nothing could be further from the truth. After 9/11, Swiss investigators in Lugano, Switzerland, discovered a document titled “Towards a Global Strategy for Islamic Policy,” also known as “The Project,” in the home of a Muslim Brotherhood financier. It is a 12-point plan to establish Islamic rule worldwide by gradually infiltrating Western societies and steadily taking control of local power centers.
A document outlining a similar plan for the U.S., the Explanatory Memorandum on the General Strategic Goal for the Muslim Brotherhood in America, was discovered in the Virginia home of Ismail Elbarasse. A Hamas operative and founder of the 9/11-linked Dar Al-Hijrah mosque, Elbarasse was detained in 2004 after his wife was caught videotaping the structural supports of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge in Maryland.
The document, written in 1991 by Mohamed Akram, a senior member of the Muslim Brotherhood, was used as evidence in the 2007 Holy Land Foundation trial, the largest terrorism funding trial in U.S. history. It identified 29 organizations dedicated to eradicating American culture and transforming the U.S. into a Muslim country through civilizational jihad.
The earliest organization believed to have been established by the Muslim Brotherhood in America is the Muslim Student Association (MSA), founded in 1963 at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. The MSA used student groups to build support within growing Muslim immigrant communities and to spread Islamist ideology. It served as both a recruitment center and a hub from which a network of Islamist organizations, such as the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) and the North American Islamic Trust (NAIT), expanded. Today, there are more than 600 MSAs.
By the 1980s, the network had grown to include professional associations, mosques, advocacy groups, fundraising efforts, and community mobilization initiatives that subtly infiltrated American society. These groups manipulated the American democratic system without opposition, increasing the Muslim Brotherhood’s influence through cultural, social, and political infiltration.
The efforts have been so successful that at ISNA’s conference last year, Nihad Awad, founder and president of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), felt empowered to demand the dismantling of the American “system of injustice.” He called for more Muslims in media, law, politics, and history to lead the narrative and shift the political landscape in favor of Islam. He stated that the country’s 4,000 mosques were vital to this effort and encouraged each to fund five scholarships in these fields every year.
In a recent speech, another Islamist zealot, Yasir Qadhi, dean of the Islamic Seminary of America and resident scholar at the East Plano Islamic Center, described a “secret weapon” that would help the less than 1% Muslim population of America overturn its society. “Keep having babies. We have children, they don’t have children. What we do in the next 30 years will dictate Islam for the next 300 years in this country,” he declared.
The other parts of his “blueprint for capture” include more mosques, Islamic schools, and Islamic institutions; additional Muslim think tanks and policy papers supporting Islam; and more Muslims in the Pentagon, the FBI, and the CIA to achieve complete penetration. He aims for Muslims to leverage America’s constitutional protections to control “the pillars of state power: the narrative, the courts, the law, the government.”
In Europe, many of the goals outlined in The Project and the Explanatory Memorandum have already been achieved. As Self states, “The Muslim Brotherhood is the root of all this. They are the foundation for exporting Sharia to the United States and Europe. I mean, look at the U.K. Look at France. That’s what we don’t want to happen to America.”
However, a movement to establish exclusive Muslim communities, including mosques, halal markets, Muslim-run healthcare, Islam-compliant financial institutions, and taxpayer-funded schools operating under sharia law, is gaining momentum. These communities are already forming in Tampa, Dallas, Austin, Houston, Phoenix, and numerous other cities.
Islam has been present in the U.S. for at least 100 years, and possibly longer if you include African Muslims brought here through the slave trade who eventually converted to Christianity. While it’s not certain which was America’s first mosque, it’s believed that mosques were established in Biddeford, Maine, in 1915; in Ross, North Dakota, in 1920; in Highland Park, Michigan, in 1923; and in Michigan City, Indiana, in 1925.
Over the years, the number of mosques has increased significantly as the Muslim immigrant community has steadily grown. Four miles from the Highland Park Mosque is Hamtramck, a city that was once a Polish Catholic neighborhood but now has a population that is 70% Muslim, with a city government that is entirely Muslim. Located in Wayne County, the town has seven mosques, some of which are converted churches. In 2004, the council reversed a noise ordinance and authorized the adhan, the five-times-daily call to prayer, to be broadcast over loudspeakers.
Between 2010 and 2020, the number of mosques in the U.S. increased by an impressive 31% — from 2,106 to 2,769. Nihad Awad estimates that about 4,000 mosques could mobilize an “army of manpower” to take control of city councils, states, and even the White House. He was simply applying to American life a poem Turkish president Tayyip Erdogan often recites: “The minarets are the bayonets, the domes are the helmets, the mosques are the barracks, the believers are the soldiers.”
Hopefully, more members of Congress will join the Sharia-Free America Caucus to protect the country and prevent it from becoming a totalitarian Islamist state.
