Liberal Hypocrisy in Iraq and Syria

By Daniel Greenfield, FPM

In a response with clear echoes to the beginnings of the Iraq War, Obama has refused Syria’s offer to open its chemical weapons sites to United Nations inspectors as coming too late to be credible.

For the worst half of a decade, liberals were either urging us to give the UN inspectors more time in Iraq or demanding to know “Where are the WMDs?” once the war had begun.

The common consensus was Syria; a fellow Baathist regime that also served as the pipeline for the majority of suicide bombers aimed at American soldiers. But that answer was met with ridicule and contempt from the questioners.

Liberals had found their killer talking point and they were not about to let it go. Not until now.

A decade after the beginning of the Iraq War, Obama is tiptoeing into Syria. The pretext for his unilateral assault on Syria, that has no credible chance of receiving United Nations Security Council approval, will be the protection of civilians against the WMDs that didn’t exist.

Ten years ago, James Clapper, now the Director of National Intelligence, said he was “unquestionably sure” that Saddam’s WMDs had been moved out of Iraq. Top Iraqi generals stated that the WMDs had gone to Syria. But all that fell on deaf ears.

Democratic political opportunism transformed the existence of Iraqi WMDs, once a universally accepted fact brutally testified to by the Halabja massacre of thousands of Kurds, into an absurd lie. Now as Halabja is being recreated in Syria, suddenly a unilateral war for WMDs has become the liberal platform.

In 2002, a minor Chicago politician with a funny name achieved an undeserved level of prominence with a speech declaring we should not attack Iraq because “Saddam poses no imminent and direct threat to the United States”, “the Iraqi economy is in shambles” and “the Iraqi military (is) a fraction of its former strength” and advised that instead Saddam “be contained until, in the way of all petty dictators, he falls away into the dustbin of history.”

When that minor politician came to power, suddenly the dustbin of history that was good enough for Saddam, wasn’t good enough for Gaddafi or for Assad.

As Obama prepares to add a second unilateral regime change war to his Nobel Peace Prize trophy shelf, joining him for their very first war together as cabinet members will be two other prominent doves.

John Kerry’s senate career began with a bang when he traveled to Nicaragua to obstruct President Reagan’s policy of arming the anti-Communist Contra rebels. Now Secretary of State John Kerry is taking part in arming the Free Syrian Army rebel allies of Al Qaeda and pawns of the Muslim Brotherhood.

In his Sandinista days, Senator Kerry had said that America should not subvert its values “by funding terrorism to overthrow governments of other countries”. Since then John Kerry has changed his mind. It turns out that he was only against funding terrorists to overthrow the governments of other countries before he was for it.

Sitting in as Secretary of Defense is Chuck Hagel, who got his job because of his opposition to the Iraq War and attacks on Bush over WMDs, who will now be overseeing a new war over Syrian WMDs.

Three anti-war doves will be leading a war that represents everything that they claimed to stand against.

NBC reported that Obama officials were worried that the legacy of the debate over Iraqi WMDs would harm their efforts to get the United Nations Security Council on board with a Syrian intervention. But the legacy is the cynicism of prominent Democrats like Biden, Pelosi, Gore and Reid who turned their backs on the WMD consensus and clawed their way to power by undermining a war that they had supported.

Democrats destroyed the credibility of American foreign policy under Bush. Now they expect that time and poor memories will have already washed away everything that they did. And if that fails, then even more cynically they are preparing to blame Bush yet again, this time for the refusal of Russia and China to sign off on their Muslim Brotherhood regime change plan for Syria. But Russia and China would no more sign off on an invasion of Syria than on an invasion of Iraq.

Obama’s people are relearning what the Bush team learned, that diplomacy will not shift the United Nations Security Council, but instead of blaming the guilty parties, they are perpetuating the same destructive cycle that got them into this mess.

A decade ago, the Democrats decided to turn around and make the Iraq War into a partisan issue for political gain. Their actions severely damaged the credibility of American foreign policy. Now they are setting course for Syrian airspace, confident that the Republicans are too patriotic to do to them what they did to the previous administration.

There is no doubt that Assad has WMDs and that he used them in the Syrian Civil War. But poll after poll shows that the American public is opposed to any attack on Syria and that the international community is mostly unenthusiastic about the prospect of another intervention.

Obama, Kerry and Hagel’s Syrian War is haunted by their destruction of the Iraq War and as Assad deploys his Weapons of Mass Destruction, the question that the doves twittering about soft power in Washington don’t have the courage to ask is how many of those weapons that will either kill civilians or fall into the hands of terrorists came from Saddam Hussein’s secret storehouses in Iraq.

Democrats vociferously opposed any plan to stop the flow of terrorists from Syria into Iraq. Now they are about to fight Assad anyway in support of their own twisted Muslim Brotherhood version of regime change.

The anti-war party has become the war party and in a supreme irony, its cause for a new war is the familiar one of stopping a Baath Party regime from using weapons of mass destruction against civilians.

Everything old is new again and every hypocrisy rises again to become policy. In New Hampshire, Howard Dean is reportedly sniffing around his presidential prospects and in Washington, John Kerry, Chuck Hagel and Barack Obama will begin a war that they were against… before they were for it.

I know the feeling of fairness is a subjective thing, but that does not seem fair to me.

fairness is not an issue, the observation that it is raining is not made based on fairness. The observation of cloudy skies and the speculation that it might rain has no basis in fairness. this is where you go wrong. Your ideology colors your ability to make accurate observations or speculations.

I do hate when I say somethin and then it is distorted…

It’s a pity you are unable to follow your own advice.

    Felix Quigley Said:

There is a certain intellectual honesty about Bernard Ross because he has spelled out above what he and you (and the Israeli leadership) are doing.

I have spelled out what I believe, as a result of observation, may be happening in current events and what may happen in the future as a result. There is nothing in what I said, and what you quoted of mine, which states what I or anyone here is doing. As usual, you have distorted my words and appear unable to understand what I am saying. I fail to see how speculating on the behavior of world leaders and nations is either intellectually honest or dishonest or related to what I and others are doing. I think you may have a problem distinguishing between reality, as it unfolds in the world, and beliefs, as they exist in the mind. I believe there is a name for that phenomenon in the field of psychology. Unlike you I am able to observe reality without my desires and beliefs changing my conclusions, or speculations, as to what that reality may be. The litmus paper will change color according to its own laws and not according to my beliefs or desires, I merely observe the paper changing color. In your world reality is ascertained by referring to your belief system with results similar to those produced by the application of the Ptolemaic system.
It appears that you do the same wrt trotsky. You are unable to distinguish between idealized scenarios and actual outcomes. I know of no trotskyite nation which was good for the jews therefore I wonder why you keep selling the mythical nation of trotskyland to the jews. You must learn to separate myth from reality and desires/beliefs/ideologies from your perceptions of reality.

The capitalist world is still running on is it 19 trillions (?) of American capitalist debt.

Actually the debt is about $129 trillion and nobody can calculate how much in junk derivatives there are and held by the banksters.

Don’t hang Europe’s economic problems on America. Shitty work ethic, low productivity,Bloated undeserved worker entitlements nobody can pay for, too many worthless Muslim and African immigrants being taken care of by the productive capitalists of Europe, declining population, too many elderly pensioners too few young workers to cover the pensions, inclusion of too many unproductive eastern European countries corrupted by socialist and communist mentality and poor productivity, few natural resources better and cheaper imports from Asia all contributed to the European debacle. Add stupid speculative investments by Europe’s financial sector couldn’t cover their losses and were bailed out by central banks before they took whole national economies with them.

Plenty of blame to go around and let’s call a spade a spade the combination of lazy fat low producing workers government ineptitude and corruption along with greedy speculators all are guilty.

Blaming others is intellectually and factually inaccurate.

In short anything related to socialism and communism has had a major contributing factor in Europe’s economic decline and it’s only those few real capitalists who are footing the bill for all the rest of the human waste you call Europeans. I hope you all starve before you get Nuked.

  4. Bernard Ross said it all in this:

Iran, syria and hezbullah want to focus arab world against israel whereas sunni jihad mercenaries in Syria are asking Israeli help against Assad and stating they have no battle with israel. Israel is sitting betweeen the 2 devils at a poker game but i suspect it is operating clandestinely on the US/Nato/Sunni side. For israel the fracturing of Syria into enclaves with no strong central govt is the best, or the status quo, for now. Second, I suspect that israel is courted to come in against assad, hezbullah and Iran by GCC offers.

He says Sunni Jihadists are asking Israel for help!!!

and Bernard says that Israel is operating clandestinely on the US/Nato/Sunni side

This is the point I keep making on this thread. It seems to me that Yamit82 despite his bombast above paid his Palestinian Arab workers. But I say Jews must live alone. I have always said that. I said that a thousand times on this very web site over the past 10 years or so.

This whole mentality of Yamit, Shy Guy, leads into exactly this. For years these guys talk on this very site, not once but many many times, about how the enemy is the US and Israel must be independent, independent in general but independent above all others of the US.

Yamit told us he would do anything to make Israel independent of the US.

    Now he does this.

I do hate when I say somethin and then it is distorted…No matter how many times I say that it is necessary to defend Assad from NATO but do not for a second drop your guard against Assad, you distort what I say.

There is a certain intellectual honesty about Bernard Ross because he has spelled out above what he and you (and the Israeli leadership) are doing.

It is actually worse than any other betrayal of the Israeli leadership and I am afraid that this will have big consequences for ordinary Jews.

In my contribution above I say this is all about NATO power, with the US at the centre trying to recreate the world in a certain way, where capitalism is saved through essentially Fascist dictatorship.

The capitalist world is still running on is it 19 trillions (?) of American capitalist debt.

Europe already tastes the results of this economic crisis. 70% of the youth in Spain cannot find a job.

This is what is driving Antisemitism. The more bankrupt they become the more they hate the Jews. It was always like that.

There are many attacks being made here on Leon Trotsky, but without substance.

I do not seek to put Trotsky on a pedestal but when ignorant attacks are made by people here who are Jews they should pause and get some historical facts:

In a letter to American comrades dated November 22, 1938, he wrote:

“It is possible to imagine without difficulty what awaits the Jews at the mere outbreak of the future world war. But even without war the next development of world reaction signifies with certainty the physical extermination of the Jews.”

(Leon Trotsky, On the Jewish Question, New York, 1970, p. 29)

I emphasise this was before the event and well before it, when Chamberlain was saying the opposite.

He also understood that the capitalist governments, especially of Britain and America, in preventing immigration of Jews, were creating the trap for the Jews.

And Trotsky was explicit in that the Jews must get somehow to Palestine.

The people on this site who are now lining up with the US against Assad, remembering that the US has as its backbone those very Nazis who were to form the CIA, (see Blowback by Christopher Simpson and see also much writing on this by Francisco Gil White and Jared Israel), are the very ones who are slandering Leon Trotsky.

I know the feeling of fairness is a subjective thing, but that does not seem fair to me.

On the issue of war against Assad I feel you are all very wrong in what you are doing, or rather some of you are wrong.

But it will take some time for that to show through. I have taken up too much of my time here already.

Thanks for illuminating this Quigley/Trotskyite shite, Yamit. I just couldn’t be bothered contending with such a brain-dead, inculcated idiot. He’s about as bright as soapstone.

Happy New Year to all my Jewish friends here on Israpundit.

The Jews have always been vulnerabele,Trotsky thought he was safe because he renounced and denounced his people.

  7. Felix Quigley Said:

THE CRISIS IN CAPITALISM AND WAR AGAINST SYRIA

    This was vintage Trotskyism:
“The governments of the world, all the political parties and movements, whether left, right, or center, are thoroughly evil. Only the international revolutionary proletariat, yet to be awakened from its slumber by a yet-to-created mass Trotskyist party, can save the world from otherwise certain barbarism.”

This is the New Trotskyism: “The new Trotskyist thinking concerning Israel and Zionism. It solemnly and, for the movement authoritatively, establishes the new doctrine that the whole Jewish people of Israel — not just the rulers or capitalists of the country — are oppressors and must be considered enemies:

The right of oppressed nationalities to self-determination is a unilateral right. That is, it is the right of the presently oppressed Palestinians to determine unilaterally whether or not they and the Hebrew-speaking Jews will live in unitary state or in separate states. The Israeli Jews, as the present oppressor nationality, do not have that right

… within this framework, the Hebrew-speaking Jews, a small minority within the Arab East, are guaranteed all democratic rights of a national minority, such as language, culture, religion, education, etc. If appropriate, this can include the right to local self-administration in Jewish areas, but not the unilateral right to form a militia or other armed force; any form of local self-administration must be subject to the approval of the central government of the unitary workers state.

    Above all,

A key task of the Arab revolution, and the central task of the Palestinian struggle, is the destruction of the Israeli settler-colonial, expansionist, capitalist state. To accomplish this task requires, first of all, the revolutionary mobilization of the Arab masses; and secondly, within Israel, winning the largest possible support for the Arab revolution and neutralizing the opponents of the Arab revolution

Agreed, then I’m sure CA “pay them to leave” would work, but in reverse order. They would pay us to allow them to leave. A win win for Israel.

  9. Felix Quigley Said:

I believe that you have employed Palestinian Arab Labour Yamit.

I did. I worked them in chains 20 hrs a day 7 days a week, with very mean task masters making sure their work productivity was maintained using whips and switches to urge them to keep up the pace. They never complained either. They had great medical benefits and pension plans. A bullet to the head if they faltered… They were happy and contented workers.

  10. “I believe that you have employed Palestinian Arab Labour Yamit.”

You wouldn’t dare say this to Yamit’s face. You’d be laying on the ground if you did.

Like I said before, no-one needs your Trotskyite shit, and especially not Israel and the Jews.

  11. Felix Quigley Said:

NATO today is Nazism. Obama and Hague are Nazis. So the Irish elites.

By that definition, so are you. Assad’s henchmen have been doing this for years and you’re cheerleading for him.

They’re all animals – the whole lotta them.

This is one of the worst. These two little kids.

The Nazi reads something out, the little kids are in front of him not understanding it seems like, then the Nazi walks off and their poor little bodies are riddled to cries of Allah is Great

We must have a movement in Ireland that will explain this to the ordinary Irish people, the poor people, not the elites

  13. I appeal to any Jews who read this to disregard the provocations to me by this person called Michael Devolin, and also to the deliberate calumnies against Trotskyism by this person called Yamit82, whose method is to lump together the Stalinist Gravediggers of Leninism with Trotsky. Just keep your mind open until you can get deeper into history.

THE CRISIS IN CAPITALISM AND WAR AGAINST SYRIA

In Spain there is an unemployment rate among youth who have left college of 70 per cent and it is the same in Greece and Portugal. Note that in these countries there is an elite which continues to live in some wealth. These are conditions sooner or later for a mass social upheaval but not revolution, just a dead end, because there is no revolutionary party to lead.

This reflects the world. The US is the leader of capitalism today. The US seeks to undermine all opposition to it on a world scale and to rule unfettered. Leaders like Gadhafi who oppose the US but note are not socialist in any way pose a problem and must be put down. Assad is the same difficulty for these Fascist World Leaders as is the US and also must be put down.

Why does Assad fight? This has nothing at all to do with Iran or Hizbullah. It is because Assad is an Alawite minority and must seek a secular answer in Syria. This is why the Christian Syrians to a man support Assad, an Alawite Muslim. Assad above all stands for secularism/

This is the type of leader that the US must destroy but why?

The reason the US turns against Assad is that the great friend and ally of US is the Muslim Brotherhood, which in turn is a Fascist Movement.

The Muslim Brotherhood was the closest ally of the Nazis as they carried out the Industrial Killing of the Jews in the Holocaust. The MB want a THEOCRATIC state with Sharia Law installed.

Why does that suit the US as it seeks a world government of total control. The reason is that the Muslim Brotherhood, and indeed Islam and its Koran, is above all an ideology and government of total control, control in the first instance of poor Muslims.

Europe has lost totally its independence. Ideologically leaders like Cameron and Hague are no longer English. They are the tools of US power. They want bread crumbs from the table.

A country like Spain has totally lost its independence. The 70% unemployment rate among youth can never be fixed under world capitalism.

In the 1930s Spain joined with Hitler to put down the workers. The Stalinists also murdered all the socialist leaders. Leaders like Andres Nin in Barcelona. The whole leadership around Trotsky was wiped out in the Camps by the Stalinists. Trotsky’s whole family were also lost. Many shot by the Stalinists.

What will Spain do in this period? It is already showing us and is joining the US.

Yugoslavia showed us all that the United Nations is part of this planned world Fascist Government. Yugoslavia also showed that the UN and NATO are one and the same thing.

Assad should never have allowed the UN Inspectors into his country. He was weak there. He was pressured to do this by Putin. The Russian Government also betrayed the Serbs and set them up to be conquered where the Serbs have lost their patriotic heart in Kosovo.

Funny that! This new NATO US power want the Jews also out of their heart and soul, which is Judea and Samaria.

This war on Assad is more than a war on Assad. It also leads in to NATO Fascist power, which involves a new Holocaust of the Jews, because please remember what I said, this new NATO Fascism will rule along with Islam, just as Hitler tried to do.

Are you insane? all around Israel the enemies are in chaos and disarray killing each other rather than Israel:Egypt,Libya,Syria,Lebanon, hezbullah,MB, AQ. Their govts are all weaker not stronger. This is better not worse. you are so buried in your ideological fantasies that you cannot see your hand in front of your face. Facts, facts and more facts is what you need to look at.

  18. The suicide Quigley and his Trotskyism have in mind for the Jews of Israel is the liquidation of their Jewish identity. I don’t know why he barnacles himself to this blog.

If Nato goes into Syria I expect the jihadis to move against hezbullah in Lebanon, shia Iraq and then Iran.

They are the advance troops of the coalition and the fig leaf for the project. It appears that “spontaneous democratic twitter uprisings” have signaled the initiation of, and the cover for, influxes of jihadi mercenaries into successive locations. Jihadi mercenaries must be paid. I suspect that many MB rank and file in egypt will be chased out and offered active paid service in the next jihad(Syria, Shia hezbullah & Iran): the stick preceding the carrot.(Saudi continues to pay MB jihadis to go to syria). Willing and paid cannon fodder: Killing 2 birds with one stone(getting rid of unproductive aggressive male eating mouths while also getting rid of the competition).

  21. yamit82 Said:

What comes after Assad is only speculative we can’t know for sure. It might be better or worse but it will not be an extension of Iran and that’s good for Israel..

    agreed.

    yamit82 Said:

A Radical Sunni Islamic replacement is not a 100% given and we can better confront such a threat if and when it comes about easier than one supported and financed by Russia, China and Iran.

Exactly. I beleive that so far Israel has been making the right choices in a very precarious set of unfolding events. whatever the truth or lies, false flags or not, Israel walks through a minefield and must make realistic decisions. I believe that they have been offered a deal and they are watching the offerors performance and success which decides Israels current and next steps as it unfolds. It appears they are on the Nato/GCC side.

  22. Felix Quigley Said:

YOU HAVE TO BACK ASSAD IN THESE CONDITIONS.

If Israel backs Assad then it would be supporting an iranian proxy who will attack Israel on Iran’s behalf if Israel, Nato, or US attack Iran’s nuclear program which has overtly stated will be used to annihilate the Jews. Is this what you suggest: that the Jews commit suicide.
    yamit82 Said to Felix Quigley:

For Israel any choice is bad and we differ between us here in Israel which options are worse than just bad. We are faced with what is known against what isn’t, but speculative. You want us to focus now on the ideological merits of capitalists and Commies?

you advise the Jews to be a tool to those who have sworn to liquidate the Jews in order to further your ideology. The opposing side(GCC/Nato) which cynically employs jihadis and maybe even false flag chemical attacks(I don’t know who is lying) is hardly better. While they kill each other it is best that Israel remains outside their battle and enters only on their own interests. I suspect that Israel is sometimes aiding indirectly the jihadis and that they have been offered a deal by the GCC.
What deal is offered Israel by Iran, Syria, hezbullah?
The fly in the ointment is Russia but we cannot be sure how they will express their interests in the final outcome. They wish to have calm in the caucusus and a lucrative position in any global energy outcome plus a strengthened military strategic position in the ME. I believe they will seek to further their own national interests as opposed to any ideology.

  23. yamit82 Said:

“There was a broad Arab coalition against Saddam,” Inbar claimed, ………. “Here there’s hardly any Arab coalition at all.”

Currently, it appears obvious that the jihadis in Syria are the proxies of the Sunni arab GCC coalition. obama helped to arm that coalition and it is becoming more apparent that the predicted chemical attacks will be the pretext for Nato to enter the war overtlyh as opposed to covertly as has been going on for a couple of years.
    yamit82 Said:

Inbar claimed, asserting that the point of Saddam Hussein’s missile launches in January 1991 was to drag Israel into the fray and thereby fracture the Arab unity.

The 9 mos negotiations is to keep the Israel pal issue on the quiet so as not to fracture sunni arab unity against Iran and its proxies. the missiles from lebanon were Iran pal proxies whereas the bombing of shia mosques in lebanon were sunni proxies.

Capitalism is good when it works and very bad when it doesn’t. Communism is never good and always bad and worse than any of the worst aspects of Capitalism.

    ZING!

Once again, Quigley flies over the cuckoo’s nest.

Actually, folks, most of the links provided regarding who shot whom are total hearsay. No one has proof.

What sums it up for me is what Beniyyar commented above. Almost the entire lotta them are animals – Alawites, Shi’ites and Sunnis. There are no good guys or even lesser evils to chose from and root for. Even if Al Qaida were to take over, I can see the long term advantages of Israel being forced into an all-out war to eradicate them. As Chazal said, “in the future, Jerusalem will reach Damascus.”. Inshallah. Bring it on!

  25. Felix Quigley Said:

    You fool and idiot.

Israel is surrounded by 250,000 rockets and missiles aimed at us. We have a fifth column of 1.5 million enemies within our recognized borders and some 300 million enemies who surround us on 3 sides. A failed Muslim radical state with some hundred Nukes that can hit Israel at worst and at best give and sell them or the technology and know how, to other Muslim states. Lets not forget Iran a Nuke wannabe daily threatening to wipe us out once they are able.

For Israel any choice is bad and we differ between us here in Israel which options are worse than just bad. We are faced with what is known against what isn’t, but speculative.

You want us to focus now on the ideological merits of capitalists and Commies?

Capitalism is good when it works and very bad when it doesn’t. Communism is never good and always bad and worse than any of the worst aspects of Capitalism. Wealth creation and self interest go hand in hand with human nature. Your communism is built on false postulates as it denies and ignores human nature and what make humans human. Communism is dehumanizing. People are not equal and there will always be those who are smarter more clever more creative more ambitious and more charismatic than others. Some will under any system in every society dominate and most who will accept being dominated if the conditions are correct.

We in Israel focus on 1 or 2 immediate threats to our survival as they arise. Assad was and is a threat and if he can be eliminated it degrades an even more serious threat (Iran). What comes after Assad is only speculative we can’t know for sure. It might be better or worse but it will not be an extension of Iran and that’s good for Israel.. A Radical Sunni Islamic replacement is not a 100% given and we can better confront such a threat if and when it comes about easier than one supported and financed by Russia, China and Iran. The Islamic alternative to Assad will not have at least in the beginning any superpower backing, will not have the support of most of the Syrian people and a real Lebanese style civil war is a probability. Syria divided into enclaves and a failed basket case economically. If Israel and the West can neutralize the chemical weapons and missiles that Assad has that’s the best scenario for Israel because it removes a principle ally of Iran Hezbollah from the equation as well. For Israel it’s Sunni radicals against Assad, Iran and Hezbollah.

If in the end it denies the Russians a Naval base to our north all to the better. Russia has the capability to both monitor and attack Israeli targets. not in our national interest.

The global conflict between you commies and capitalist imperialist fascists is not even on our radar of interests or concerns. You are an anachronism… A sick joke.

  26. Yamit we can do our own research here. So if you quote some garbage from some Israeli ex general say why it is relevant.

As in your quoting above of Shlomo Brom. Just what exactly has this person got to contribute and why quote him without comment. That to me is a disgusting thing to do.

we do our own research and who do you think you are (spoonfeeding crap)

  27. I hope the Assad regime wins and wipes out the Syrian rebels, and I also wish that the Syrian rebels are totally victorious, and that they wipe out the Assad regime, I hope both sides win and wipe each other off the map and that Syria becomes a destroyed country.

You fool and idiot. This is not about Assad, nor about Mubarak, or Gadhafi or Milosevic or Gaghbo.

This is about the crisis in the capitalist system, its drive to Fascism, and at the centre the CIA recruited out of the Nazis who were running the death camps, and its alliance now with the people who the main mastermind of the camp system was, Hajj Amin el Husseini, their descendents in Fatah.

The Jews are very vulnerable in this situation

The Jews are far far worse now than before Obama kicked it off in 2009 by adopting the Muslim Brotherhood in that conference in cairo in June of that year.

The above comment is about the stupidest I ever heard, but Yamit says roughly the same thing.

YOU HAVE TO BACK ASSAD IN THESE CONDITIONS. That does not mean lowering Israelis guard in the slightest against Assad. Those are 2 different things.

If you join in with Obama and Hague or not take a position same thing then Jews are lost

  28. I hope the Assad regime wins and wipes out the Syrian rebels, and I also wish that the Syrian rebels are totally victorious, and that they wipe out the Assad regime, I hope both sides win and wipe each other off the map and that Syria becomes a destroyed country.

  29. Israel’s interest: That Assad not be victorious

Professor Efraim Inbar, the head of the BESA Center for Strategic Studies, was unequivocal about the ultimate Israeli interest. “There are no good options,” he said of the situation in Syria. “But the Israeli interest is that Bashar not survive.”

As an ally of Iran, Israel’s No. 1 enemy, Assad has to go, even at the cost of anarchy or extremist Sunni control in Damascus, Inbar indicated.

Asked whether a US strike could trigger a retaliation against Israel, as happened during the first Gulf War, and whether the nature of the US strike might dictate the severity of Assad’s response, both Brom and Inbar were cautious yet dubious of Assad’s willingness to attack Israel.

“There was a broad Arab coalition against Saddam,” Inbar claimed, asserting that the point of Saddam Hussein’s missile launches in January 1991 was to drag Israel into the fray and thereby fracture the Arab unity. “Here there’s hardly any Arab coalition at all.”

Brom said Assad’s bottom line was “survivability” — a goal that clashed with a major strike against Israel. “Syria is right on our border,” he said. “We can be very effective there… actually, more so than the Americans.”

  30. Forget Syria and concentrate on putting distance between the State of Israel and this utterly irresponsible government of the USA.

In any case, this business of chemical weapons is starting to resemble a rigged excuse for our Sharia and Muslim Brotherhood loving and Israel-hating presidential administration to take down Assad’s government, now that the Alawites and their Russian allies seem to have re-established control against the squabbling Arab terrorist gangs that have been attempting to pull Assad out of power.

If there is any such attack by the USA, the UK and France, those people can kiss goodbye any hope of enlisting Russian cooperation in either Europe, southern Asia, the Middle East or anywhere else. But unfortunately for this western alliance, they no longer have international hegemony, and the power bases of Russia and China are steadily growing. That direction is clearly where Israel should be oriented.

Of course, the situation here could change. But that is a condition that Israel cannot influence. Only we, the voters of the United States, can do that. Which is precisely why various Republican members of the US House of Representatives are seriously scheming to impeach Obama.

  31. Israel military intelligence claims chemical gas attack by Syrian airforce commanded by assads brotherFelix Quigley Said:

I would like Daniel Greenfield not to use weasel words like “there is no doubt”

In others words can Daniel Greenfield produce his evidence.

Maher Assad’s 4th Armored Division of Syrian Army launched nerve gas shells that killed hundreds last Wednesday from base west of Damascus,This division is under the command of the president’s brother, Maher Assad. The nerve gas shells were fired from a military base in a mountain range to the west of Damascus. Vast stocks of chemical weaponry are concentrated in just two or three locations under the control of Syrian Air Force Intelligence, itself reporting to president Assad

Israel was increasingly concerned about the use of chemical weapons in Syria, and their possibility of these weapons falling into still more dangerous hands than those of Assad. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that Iran was closely watching how the world would deal with the attack.

“Syria has become Iran’s testing ground, and Iran is closely watching whether and how the world responds to the atrocities committed there by its client state Syria and its proxy Hezbollah against innocent civilians in Syria,” he said.

  33. @ Felix Quigley:
Felix, I recommend that you go to Greenfield’s site (Sultan Knish) and read several of his previous essays, of which there are many, before jumping to conclusions that he’s a “lying scut” or a “tool of US Imperialism”.

  34. Further on this:

    Syria: Anti-Assad operation has begun

    By Isabelle Lasserre

According to our information, the regime’s opponents, supervised by Jordanian, Israeli (my emphasis FQ) and American commandos, have been moving towards Damascus since mid-August. This attack could explain the possible recourse to chemical weapons by the Syrian president.

If it is still too early to categorically rule out the argument put forward by Damascus and Moscow, who blame the massacre on the Syrian opposition, it is already possible to provide answers to a troubling question: What benefit would Assad have realized by launching an unconventional attack at the precise moment he had to allow UN inspectors — after being held up for several months — to investigate the use of chemical weapons?

First of all, operational logic. According to information obtained by Le Figaro, the first contingent of Syrian troops trained in guerrilla warfare by the Americans in Jordan have reportedly been sent into action since mid-August in southern Syria, in the region of Deraa. A first group of 300 men, undoubtedly supported by Israeli and Jordanian commandos, as well as by CIA operatives, crossed the border on August 17. A second was to have joined on the 19th. According to military sources, for several months the Americans, who do not want to put troops on the Syrian soil, nor arm any rebels controlled in part by radical Islamists, quietly assembled handpicked ASL fighters, the Free Syrian Army, in a training camp set up at the Jordanian-Syrian border.

    Sense of impunity

During the summer their protégés have begun to push against Syrian battalions in the south, approaching the capital. “Their impact would now be felt in the Ghouta, where formations of the FSA were already at work, but really can make a difference on the outskirts of the fortifications of Damascus,” says David Rigoulet-Roze, a researcher at the French Institute for Strategic Analysis (IFAS).

According to this expert on the region, the idea proposed by Washington would be the possible establishment of a buffer zone separating the south of Syria, or even a no-fly zone, which would permit the opposition to train in complete security until the balance of power changes. This is the reason why the United States deployed Patriot batteries and F16s in Jordan in late June.

Recent military pressure exerted against al-Ghouta threatens the capital Damascus, the heart of the Syrian regime. In July the spokesman for President al-Assad publicly stated that the regime would not use chemical weapons in Syria “except in case of external aggression.” The intrusion of foreign agents into the south, for example…

This is combined with many articles in http://www.debka.com which are asserting that Assad used chemical weapons. Debka has become a website of liars which publishes articles which are based on information which it does not ever source

It is also combined with an article which appears on http://www.Israpundit.com which has a Daniel Greenfield saying that “THERE IS NO DOUBT” that Assad used chemical weapons etc.

But Greenfield like Debka does not give any of his sources. The use of the words “there is no doubt” is an old and discredited journalist technique. If there is no doubt then Greenfield will have done his due research and will be happy to publish the proof with his sources named.

If Israel is involved in any way with the troops invading Syria then those Israeli troops will be under the direction of the CIA. That is American Imperialism CIA. That is American Imperialism CIA that hates Jews and hates Israel and seeks to place in power the Fatah branch of the Muslim Brotherhood.

Jews now like Ted Belman who edits Israpundit are faced with a moment of truth. Will they take up a position, the only correct for Jews position, of defending Assad from the combination of the Muslim Brotherhood (like Morsi and Erdogan) and the forces of British, French and US Imperialism?

Readers will find more on this argument on http://4international.me/2013/08/26/question-to-all-jews-of-israel-is-your-government-involved-with-nato-in-syria/

  35. Daniel Greenfield writes this:

There is no doubt that Assad has WMDs and that he used them (my emphasis) in the Syrian Civil War.

I would like Daniel Greenfield now to come onto Israpundit, which he reads and knows well, to back this up with his evidence

I would like Daniel Greenfield not to use weasel words like “there is no doubt”

In others words can Daniel Greenfield produce his evidence.

Or is Daniel Greenfield a lying scut like all the other Media

Or is Daniel Greenfield a tool of US Imperialism and of NATO, that is the same NATO which will in time crush the Jews and create a new Holocaust of the Jews?
