Naomi Wolf sounds alarm at growing power of ‘autocratic tyrants’

By Andrea Widberg, AM THINKER

[..] Tucker Carlson is also one of those worrying about the Biden administration using the excuse of the Wuhan virus to turn America into a totalitarian state with the Bill of Rights a forgotten, dead letter. Therefore, he invited Naomi to be his guest to discuss the issue.

Tucker was stunned – as were those of us who know Naomi – to hear her give a fluent, impassioned disquisition on American liberties and the threats they’re facing as states and Biden use them to grab permanent power.

Wolf asserts that what we are witnessing in America “is not a partisan thing.” Instead, “it transcends everything that you and I might disagree or agree on. That should bring together left and right to protect our Constitution.” Gathering steam, she told Tucker,

The state has now crushed businesses, kept us from gathering in free assembly to worship as the First Amendment provides, is invading our bodies … which is a violation of the Fourth Amendment, restricting movement, fining us in New York state … the violations go on and on.

She’s right, too. According to Wolf, totalitarian dictatorships always start the same way.

Whether they are on the left or the right, they do these same ten things and now we’re at something I never thought I would see in my lifetime … it is step 10 and that is the suspension of the rule of law and that is when you start to be a police state, and we’re here. There is no way around it.

Wolf then sounded an ominous warning: “I really hope we wake up quickly because history also shows that it’s a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.” She’s right about that, too.

Naomi’s an odd bird, but she is extremely smart and she does understand the principles of individual liberty (helped, perhaps, by the fact that, in 2018, she married a U.S. Army veteran). People on both the left and the right would be wise to heed her warning and to act upon it to preserve their liberties. The Bill of Rights has meaning only if our government does not use its police power to destroy those rights but, instead, honors its obligations under the Constitution.

  1. @ Adam Dalgliesh:
The criminal case (for fraud and monetary damages) brought in a Russian court against Navalny and his brother several years ago by a French firm was brought before the European Human Rights court (or whatever it is called) on appeal, and the court denied Navalny’s appeal.
I suspect that Amnesty International is aware of it.
The guy got what he deserved, he has about 2% support in Russia.

  2. Amnesty International has decided that Navalny is not a “prisoner of conscience” because he allegedly holds opinions that differ from those of Amnesty International. Or in other words, you can only be a “prisoner of conscience” if your “conscience” agrees with that of AI. So much for AI’s claims to be a “Human Rights” organization.

    From Reuters:

Amnesty International revokes Kremlin critic Navalny’s ‘prisoner of conscience’ status

MOSCOW (Reuters) – Amnesty International no longer considers jailed Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny a “prisoner of conscience” due to past comments he made that qualify as advocacy of hatred, the group said.

Amnesty, however, still believes that Navalny should be freed from jail, that he has committed no crime and that he is being persecuted for his campaigning and outspoken criticism of President Vladimir Putin and his government, it said.

The 44-year-old Russian opposition politician was flown to Germany last August to recover from a near-fatal poisoning in Siberia with what many Western nations said was a nerve agent.

He was arrested on his return to Russia last month and sentenced to jail for parole violations he called trumped up. He is set to spend just over two-and-a-half years behind bars. The West has demanded his release; Russia says that is meddling.

“Amnesty International took an internal decision to stop referring to … Navalny as a prisoner of conscience in relation to comments he made in the past,” the group said in a statement sent to Reuters on Wednesday.

“Some of these comments, which Navalny has not publicly denounced, reach the threshold of advocacy of hatred, and this is at odds with Amnesty’s definition of a prisoner of conscience,” it added.

Amnesty, which had named Navalny a “prisoner of conscience” on Jan. 17 after his arrest, did not specify which comments it was referring to and said it was not aware of similar pronouncements made by him in recent years.

Navalny, who has carved out a following campaigning against official corruption, has been criticised for past nationalist statements against illegal immigration and for attending an annual nationalist march several years ago.

In a 2007 video, he called for the deportation of migrants to prevent the rise of far-right violence. “We have a right to be (ethnic) Russians in Russia. And we’ll defend that right,” he said in the video.

Navalny could not be reached for comment as he was in jail. His allies protested the move by Amnesty on Twitter.

Alexander Golovach, a lawyer for Navalny’s FBK anticorruption group, said he was renouncing an earlier “prisoner of conscience” status that Amnesty gave him in 2018 to protest.

Ivan Zhdanov, a Navalny ally, said: “the procedure for assigning and revoking Amnesty International status has proven extremely shameful.”

COVID-denying antivaxxer doctor permanently loses medical license

Arieh Avni, who recently said ‘anyone who administers a vaccine is, to me, like Mengele,’ has reportedly forged immunization certificates and mask exemptions for pay

The Health Ministry announced Tuesday that an outspoken doctor who denies the coronavirus, opposes vaccination and has reportedly forged virus immunization certificates has permanently lost his medical license.

Arieh Avni owns a website popular among the Israeli antivaxxer community where he has published a multitude of articles spreading conspiracy theories about COVID-19 and Israel’s vaccination drive, as well as repeatedly slandering Israeli health officials. He also runs the Facebook page “Correct Medicine: Dr. Arieh Avni,” where he writes widely shared posts spreading his theories.

Avni recently said that “anyone who administers a vaccine is, to me, like Mengele,” referring to the notorious Nazi death camp doctor.

According to Channel 13, Avni had recently opened a clinic in Bnei Brak where he continued to spread misinformation on the virus and offered forged immunization certificates and exemptions from wearing masks for pay.

According to the ruling of retired judge Amnon Strashnov, who was appointed by Health Minister Yuli Edelstein to oversee the case, Avni poses a danger to the public.

“There is no doubt that the harsh and blatant statements of [Avni] in articles he published on his website, on Facebook and recently also on YouTube, against the vaccination against the coronavirus, constitue a real danger to public safety and health,” Strashnov wrote.

“Add to this his unbridled, blatant and baseless remarks toward the medical community and the heads of the Health Ministry — which go far beyond what is reasonable and permissible in the context of freedom of expression, which is an important and protected value in any democratic society — and you have a clear prescription for total anarchy, all while he boasts the title of ‘doctor,’” the ruling said.

Vaccine hesitancy and skepticism have become a growing concern in recent weeks as Israel’s world-leading inoculation campaign has slowed.

Dozens attended a protest in Tel Aviv last week against “coercion,” a label widely used by antivaxxers.

The protest featured a number of people not wearing masks, as well as comparisons between Israel’s vaccination campaign and Nazi laws, with some wearing yellow Stars of David saying “not vaccinated” meant to resemble the ones that Nazis forced Jews to wear during the Holocaust.

Earlier this month, Facebook announced that it had removed a major Israeli group promoting conspiracy theories about the vaccines that had urged its thousands of members to schedule appointments to inoculate and then to cancel them at the last minute, forcing HMOs to throw out unused doses.

Facebook said that the group violated its community standards regarding fake news.

The removal of the group from the social media platform came after the Health Ministry reportedly asked Facebook to take down the posts of anti-vaxxers bragging about their exploits. The social media giant has pledged to keep anti-vaxxers and those spreading fake vaccination information off its platform.

The group, which had over 12,000 members, featured false information about the virus and the vaccines’ efficacy and safety, alongside conspiracy videos and efforts to thwart the country’s vaccination drive.

Days later, the social media giant deleted another group associated with popular Israeli rabbi Amnon Yitzhak that peddled fake news about the pandemic and the immunizations.

  4. Ted, Thanks for posting this. I avoid anything on Fox these days and this would have been a real miss.

I find it curious that people are clearly surprised, shocked even, when they see someone like Naomi Wolf, Glenn Greenwald, and Matt Taibbi taking a stand against what many perceive to be their own base. But it is not against their own base. Wolfe and company are not conservatives – they are liberals. But we are now all at the table of a group of very evil minds. The group that has claimed victory in this coup is the China Class, and they are an authoritarian, internationally based cabal intent upon the destruction of our constitution and the perversion of our society. It is not liberal vs conservative. The China Class espouses violently radical and extreme measures that would impermanently silence the voices of all who oppose them. They won’t bother to consider their former liberal friends as exempt to these measures and their former liberal friends should not be stupid enough to sit silently by as their rights to dissent are collectively removed along with the rest of us. Wolfe and company understand this as being the case. The thing that has resiliently appeared as odd to me are those vegetative minds who can’t seem to catch the news of the day more than once every 6 months and then only thru a selective lens. They sit by and laugh and rejoice in the removal of the Orange Man Bad while their world is remodeled without their input and regardless of their interests. They are not immune to the measures being put in place, but they appear to be eternally stupid enough to allow it to occur without objection. Where are those liberal voices of old who once were chanting about civil liberties – they are silent. Wolfe and company are notable because they cry out into a vacuum of silence. I thought the liberally minded people might be awakened to their coming dilemma in masse by the early, radical moves of the president Bobble-Head and crew, but they are still quite silent outside of their collective elation over the president Bobble-Head faked inauguration. This is where my surprise and shock lies – as well as my deep disappointment.
