Nation-state Bill is being gutted

Being a Jewish-nation state must trump being a democratic state or democratic values will trump being Jewish Nation state. Being a Jewish state means giving preference to Jews and things Jewish. In a democracy this is verbotten. DON’T GUT THE BILL. By Ted Belman

MKs work to revive ‘nation-state’ bill

Habayit Hayehudi faction chairwoman Ayelet Shaked and MK Ruth Calderon (Yesh Atid) intend to work together to formulate an updated version of the so-called nation-state bill, which aims to legislate the state’s Jewish identity.

The controversial bill, proposed by then-Homefront Defense Minister Avi Dichter in the last government but ultimately scrapped, seeks to prevent the establishment of a binational state and to define Israel as the nation-state of the Jewish people. The original bill called for Jewish religious law to serve as inspiration for new legislation and for the dropping of Arabic as an official language, granting it only “special status.”

Habayit Hayehudi officials said the MKs would expunge certain controversial clauses in Dichter’s bill, apparently to make it more democratic. They said the updated bill would not challenge Israel’s democratic values in favor of the state’s Jewish character, and would not seek to change the status of Arabic as one of Israel’s two official languages (the other being Hebrew).

  1. Google recognizes state of Palestine – Google spokesman Nathan Tyler said on Friday that Google had decided to change the name of the Palestinian Territories to just “Palestine” in its products. http://www.myfoxny.com/story/22155201/google-lists-palestinian-territories-palestine.

Who can blame them, with the government of Israel’s own refusal to assert sovereignty over the area? The delegitimation of Israel’s land and heritage started in Israel quite a long time ago.

  2. If the Jewishness gives way to democracy, it will result in an Arab theocracy and the massacre of Jews. If the Jewishness is to be paramount, Jewish identity will be preserved, Jewish lives safeguarded and the Arab world-wide jihad at least challenged and confronted, if not thwarted.

America and the west have a similar challenge with identical consequences.

What starts with the Jews always extends well beyond.

  3. Many Israelis do not understand the need for a Jewish State.

Meir Kahane observed some decades ago the Jew is guilt-ridden because he has to choose between his liberalism and his Judaism.

Why not give up Judaism – isn’t it tribalistic, racist and exclusivist? Why not just be part of the brotherhood of man?

The only fly in the liberal ointment is the Muslim World hates Jews and not at all because of Israel. The real problem is not Israel’s enemies. The real problem is Jews who constantly apologize to the world for being “too Jewish.”

As a result, its no surprise the proposed Jewish nationhood law got gutted in the Knesset.
