Netherlands abandoning multiculturalism

bY Thomas Lifson,  AMERICAN THINKER

In a landmark turnabout, one of the cornerstones of contemporary liberalism is being rejected by one of the fountainheads of liberalism.  The politically correct doctrine of multiculturalism is heading for decline, as Holland, one of the most socially liberal societies on earth, is reversing its former policy of multiculturalism.  Soeren Kern, writing for Hudson New York, covers an important story that has gotten almost no notice from the American media, which wishes to pretend that multiculturalism works just fine:

A new integration bill (covering letter and 15-page action plan), which Dutch Interior Minister Piet Hein Donner presented to parliament on June 16, reads: “The government shares the social dissatisfaction over the multicultural society model and plans to shift priority to the values of the Dutch people. In the new integration system, the values of the Dutch society play a central role. With this change, the government steps away from the model of a multicultural society.”

The letter continues: “A more obligatory integration is justified because the government also demands that from its own citizens. It is necessary because otherwise the society gradually grows apart and eventually no one feels at home anymore in the Netherlands. The integration will not be tailored to different groups.”

The new integration policy will place more demands on immigrants. For example, immigrants will be required to learn the Dutch language, and the government will take a tougher approach to immigrants to ignore Dutch values or disobey Dutch law.

The government will also stop offering special subsidies for Muslim immigrants because, according to Donner, “it is not the government’s job to integrate immigrants.” The government will introduce new legislation that outlaws forced marriages and will also impose tougher measures against Muslim immigrants who lower their chances of employment by the way they dress. More specifically, the government will impose a ban on face-covering Islamic burqas as of January 1, 2013.

This occurred just a day before a Dutch court acquitted Geert Wilders of defaming Islam by, in part, reading from the Koran. It looks as though common sense is triumphing in one of the nations which led the western world down the path of political correctness. It is hard to overstate the potential importance of this development for societies elsewhere, including the United States.

Kern’s report includes some fascinating background information on the transformation of the Dutch political environment, including an about face on the part of Interior Minister Donner on the subject. Read the whole thing.

  1. How long before we catch on? Will it be too late? We are dealing openly, now, with the Muslim Brotherhood. It’s against our Constitution, but there could be ways of getting around it, as the Arabs seem to work wonders. Hillary is encouraging the dialogue, along with Anthony Wiener’s wife and mother-in-law (both members of the Muslim Sisterhood); and the wife has her eyes set on Hillary’s position as Sec’y of State, I understand. If we don’t change course soon, there can be much damage done by the end of Obama’s eight year.
we won’t even be able to recognize our own country by then.

  2. The realization that multiculturalism is not good when dealing with supremacist organization (i,e,” Islamism), does not necessarily benefit the Jews in-spite of their tremendous contribution to Europeans societies.
    No need to give examples.
Jews are of better use to the Europeans as scapegoat when things do not go the way they wish.
It is funny, but whenever Jews are founders or participating in all these “Isms” i,e,: socialism, communism, secularism, universalism etc… these “isms” eventually turn against the Jews.
Only 2 exceptions: Judaism and capitalism!

It’s really simple. They’re waiting for G-d to drag them here kicking and screaming.

Dutch Jews ‘Fearful’ After Shechita Ban

Anti-Semitism Thrives on Dutch Social Media

    Nazism and Holland
The majority of the Netherlands’ population was good to benign towards the Jews during the Holocaust. But the problem is, the Dutch were also good toward the minority who collaborated with the Germans. The minority hunted us, and so 75 percent of all Dutch Jews were murdered.

Holland had the “distinction” (sic) of having the second, (only Germany was higher), largest per capita membership in the Nazi party.

There is little to be surprised about.

Can Someone Explain to Me the Reason?

I’d like to ask you all a question.

This past Shabbat, Orthodox congregations recited the blessing over the upcoming new month (may it be a good month for everyone). We pray:

“May He who performed miracles for our fathers, and freed them from slavery, speedily redeem us and gather our dispersed people from the four corners of the earth, so that all Israel be joined in friendship together.”

A person who says this prayer, what is he or she thinking? To me the prayer is asking G-d to redeem us, presumably from a bad situation, otherwise we wouldn’t need to be redeemed. Then when the prayer says that we are dispersed, I understand that we are not where we should be. And I understand that we are to be gathered to the Land of Israel. That’s what the prayer means, doesn’t it? That we don’t belong in the Diaspora? That we should feel uncomfortable there. That we belong in Israel and are longing to go. Isn’t that what the words are saying?

This isn’t the only time when we ask G-d to take us out from the exile and bring us to Israel. Every morning before reciting the Shema, we say: “Bring us home from the four corners of the earth, and help us to walk upright to our Land.”

Once again, I understand that I am supposed to feel a desire to escape the Diaspora and come to Israel as a proud Jew. Isn’t this what the prayer is requesting?

Also in the Amidah prayer which we say three times a day, we ask G-d to redeem us and to assemble us from the four corners of the earth and gather us to Israel. fz

When someone says this in America, what is he thinking? Doesn’t he see that G-d has already cleared the way and all we have to do is get on the plane?

In the Sabbath Musaf prayer, Jews the world over pray to G-d to: “Bring us in joy back to our Land and plant us within our borders.”

Isn’t it wonderful that we now have a kosher airline, built-up cities in Israel, a stable, progressive economy, and villas and modest apartments waiting to be inhabited all over the country? What are people waiting for?

On the Jewish holidays, we ask G-d to: “Unite our scattered people from among the gentiles, and gather our dispersed from the four corners of the earth. Bring us to Zion, Your city with ringing song, to Jerusalem the place of Your Sanctuary with everlasting joy.”

What do people think when they say these words? Can anybody tell me? I simply can’t figure it out.

  6. To be positive, we must not only reject multiculturalism, but embrace culturism. It sounds like the Dutch are doing this by giving pride of place to Dutch customs, dress, language, and laws. If they used the word culturism, they could also spread the idea through Europe and avoid being called racist.

Ronald Sevenster and others, make good points. The opposite of multiculturalism is often seen as cultural neutrality, total separation of church and state. This enforces or supports secularism. However, this is not the only possibility.

The original culturist movement was led by Matthew Arnold. He, famously, defined the west as having its roots in Athens and Jerusalem. Religious folk should not forget our secular traditions, and vice versa. For their part, secularists must realize that Christianity has created the soil where secularism could exist. And religious folks must not denounce all secularism / Enlightenment thought. Democracy, constitutions, and rights are proud Enlightenment accomplishments that help define the West.

Culturism and culturist, spread the words. http://www.culturism.us

  7. What I’d like to know is why, if we claim to live in a democratic society, that
we lose our power the minute we leave the voting booth. I caught on that the disguise of democracy is a way to keep the natives from getting restless. We are tricked into believing we have a voice when we only have a voice to hear ourselves talk.
Democracy is an illusion that keeps us from marching with lit torches. We’re too civil
    for that dontcha know?

  8. Welcome to the new Weimar global community…. with some exceptions. Glimpses of a possible sequel to the coming restrictive fascism of the 1930s seems to forewarn of a “one step forward, 2 steps back” doctrine of oppression. The pendulum is swinging with a vengeance, and Holland leads the way. Political correctness will expire, but at a price. Shechita is only part of it. Who is standing in the wings waiting for the next opportunity to take over? Will we see a re-run of the Munich Purtch of November, 1923? Or will we skip right to 1934 when Hitler took over the leadership of the German state? Stay tuned.

  9. The American Left is full of itself and full of morons. Many of them still espouse communistic principles.
One of them still kicking is: political correctness.
As long as the democrats and the left say that multiculturalism is the best way forward the Muslims will have a chance to damage the US.
Apparently we must only learn from our own mistakes rather then show that we can learn from other people’s mistakes.
    Such is life.
We refuse to learn from the lost economic decade Japan when through and we must impose to our country a decade of economic loss because our intellectual politicians know better. What they do not know is that they are stupid.
They are full of themselves and make Americans pay for their stupidity.

  10. The American Unthinkers are busy at their work of ‘not thinking.’ True to form, when the minds of men try and smother the innate conscience and still small voice within himself; when his mind is acting against his own best interests; he simply self implodes. New York, New York that wonderful town is going down the drain taking with it the sharp, crisp step of well heeled workers briskly participating in the culture and commerce of the city; it’s productive energy sparking it’s leadership position and trend setting energies, but HEY THERE, ‘we turned the wrong way!

Alas, with the gung-ho rush to approve GAY Marriage in New York, I can see all the apples on the tree turn brown with worms peeping out their little heads. The once GREAT BIG APPLE has decided to become undone. Seems to me there was a City like that in ancient history which turned rather salty and disappeared from the face of the earth.

LIBERALISM, TOLERANCE, MULTICULTURALISM are all the same enemy. It comes in like an angel of light and goes out leaving the rotting decay and debris of a destroyed society. Fools rush in where angels fear to go; except when they are sent with Orders to destroy from the CIF. Remember Sodom.

    Holland
: Like a brand from the fire, hooray for Holland; the pendulum has swung back just in the nick of time. Some changes may come along with ‘the change’, and that is to be expected when waves of the sea return to their place; water must find it’s own level. ANIMAL SLAUGHTER is ‘ a matter of conscience’.. seeing that
there is no Temple and no alter. What’s wrong with a contrite heart? and a major dose of honesty about one’s own character flaws. I prefer beating ones own body and bringing IT into submission. However, Jews have a homeland now and gives cause to wonder why they are are not in it. We all say, Next year in Jerusalem’.. but sit still in foreign lands.

Borders have their place; culture lives within it; and when multi-culturalism begins to tip the scale of the original mold; that nation is at risk of disappearing. Some begin to wake up when they hear the watchman call (Geert Wilders), and others continue to eat, drink and be merry. (UNTHINKING AMERICANS AND DYING EUROPEANS)

Liberalism and multi culturalism is akin to a man walking through the sea with a cut on his leg. The blood will attract sharks, and he will forfeit his life to become ‘Lunch.’ Delusion will get him in the end.

I listened to the news which talked about American rivers overflowing, homes being destroyed, fires raging out of control in Arizona, AK47’S crossing the MEXICAN BORDER and in the next breath, the news reporter said NEW YORK HAS BECOME THE 6TH CITY TO APPROVE GAY MARRIAGES; IT WILL HAVE A NATIONWIDE EFFECT.

Yep, no kidding. Is there any other way to spell, DUH?

  11. One should not forget about the dark side of this important change. Traditional Dutch religious tolerance will have to make place for a doctrine of normative secularim. The first sacrifice of the new doctrine is the orthodox Jewish community, which faces a legal ban of Shechitah. Upcoming Tuesday the Dutch parliament will vote for a law that prohibits all unstunned ritual slaughter. It is already certain that the law will be passed. After a hearing session with Rabbis and Moslim leaders the law-makers have defiantly rejected all the objections of religious organisations.

In Dutch politics we see a slowly growing coalition between the secular forces of right and left, against the traditional middle position of the the Christian Democrats whose position has considerably weakened over the last decade. After the Shechitah ban the next important issue will be a proposal for a circumcision ban, which can be expected within a couple of years.

All this is due to the enormous popularity of Wilder’s movement of the Freedom Party. Wilders is fully prepared to throw the Jews under the bus in pursueing his agenda of out-lawing Islam. That during this process Judaism will also be out-lawed does not bother him at all.

Wilders and his movement are known for their friendly attitude to the State of Israel. However, one should not conclude from this any real frienship for Judaism as a religion. Israel is only appreciated by him because it is a modern secular state. Observant Jews are only an obstacle to Wilder’s aggressive secularism.

  13. At last the Netherlands have spoken well. We applaud your firm stand. Other countries should follow your lead.
