New Israeli bill seeks to hold EU liable for illegal Palestinian building

Illegal EU funded Palestinian structures in the area of Kfar Adumim.

A Knesset bill designed to halt European Union support for illegal Palestinian construction in Area C of the West Bank was filed on Wednesday by MK Oded Forer (Yisrael Beytenu).

If passed by the Knesset, it would strip diplomats of immunity in activities relating to terror, human trafficking and illegal construction, and would hold European Union diplomats liable for helping Palestinians build illegally in Area C of the West Bank.

“Diplomatic immunity was not granted to allow for activities that undermine the state’s sovereignty,” said Forer.

His actions are part of a larger campaign by right-wing politicians and non-governmental groups to halt such building, particularly in the area of Route 1, as it runs from Jerusalem past the Ma’aleh Adumim settlement in the direction of the Dead Sea.

Right-wing politicians and activists have noted that the temporary structures, with bright blue EU logos pasted onto their walls, are located very close to the road. They have warned that such construction would allow for Palestinians to attack vehicles on that road.

Immunity for foreign diplomats is important, Forer said, but it cannot be used to “legitimize activities that at the end of the day harm the state and the citizens of Israel.”

This particular activity, he said, could seriously harm the state of Israel.

Avihai Shorshan, of the Kfar Adumim settlement, who had appealed to politicians to take action warned that Route 1, near his home, is a “ticking time bomb.”
The Yisrael Beytenu, Likud and Bayit Yehudi parties have said they would support the bill.

Its passage would make it easier for right-wing organizations such as Regavim to petition the High Court of Justice against such building.

EU diplomats have argued that their support for such building falls under the category of humanitarian relief and is permissible under international law. They have noted that the lack of sufficient Israeli permits for Palestinian construction in Area C makes it impossible for Palestinians to exercise their basic human right to housing.

yaalons legacy: while he takes a quiet job with a foreign think tank those he maligned still remain damaged and in jail. All who colluded in yaalons crimes of stalking, abusing and incarcerating nationalists and jews should be jailed… Mandebilt has done nothing and neither has the unelected leftist unauthentic supreme court who continues to allow the stalking, libeling, of nationalists and jews in order to further their leftist agenda. Like hillary they should all be rounded up and indicted.

illegitimate and unelected court of leftists threaten coup of legally elected gov in order to maintain their illegitimate power over the wishes of the elected gov. Imagine threatening to declare a law unconstitutional because it limits their authority… talk about a conflict of interest… it shows the arrogance of leftists that they have the gall to raise themselves above the elected gov.

  2. future possible laws in the form of current ineffective bills cannot replace declaring those who have already committed these crimes as persona non grata with no future right of entry to Israel. This is the normal reaction to diplomats commiting crimes… I have heard nor read of a single eu diplomat being declared persona non grata and demanded to leave. Perhaps this is just one more of those “announcements” which never achieve anything or go anywhere. I doubt that the bill will even achieve the status of law as stripping of diplomatic immunity with criminal prosecution is rare. A gov which cannot even make use of existing remedies is unlikely to make use of more stringent remedies. Sounds like baloney to me… deport those who already did it, declare them AND their instructing higher diplomats as persona non grata…. that will get lots of attention.

  3. It’s damned well about time…it’s WELL PAST time that the cowardly Israeli Knesset do something about the encroachment of the thieving Arabs. This is their modus operandi….to take, take, take….until someone with courager stops them. And why the dickens do they need to get permission from the High Court for this action. The COurt should only be acting on points of Law, not political activism.

Shakd had better hurry up with her bill to restrict the High Court to only what concerns them and keep it’s long nose out of politics. In fact, She could carry her bill a little further, by including penalties for

For what little remains of the Oslo Accords is only there because, although the Arabs have never even complied with a single one, Israel has always complied with the useless Oslo drek. So let it be useful for once. Area C was to be completely under Israeli control, with the Arabs basically controlling A and B.. Maybe if they pass this and act on it, then they’ll spread out their activity to encompass the other hundreds or thousands of illegal EU mobile homes and trailers that they’ve given to the Arabs to erect sprawl all over the vital part of the landscape..
