Analysis: Liberman turns to the Palestinian people

T. Belman. This analysis has a decidedly left wing slant. True that Liberman has endorse the carrot and stick approach but I haven’t read more than that.

From the defense minister’s seat on the fifteenth floor of the Kiriya Military Headquarters in Tel Aviv, Gaza looks different.

Avigdor Liberman.

It appears that Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman has completed his orientation at the Defense Ministry. The interview that he gave over the weekend to the newspaper Al-Quds, the most-read daily in the West Bank and east Jerusalem, shows that Liberman understands well the correct equation between Israel and the Palestinians in regard to management and security. He no longer speaks politically, but rather he is speaking in military language.

The carrot and stick system was not invented by the current defense minister. It is a system that the IDF has been using with the Palestinians for years and Liberman understands this. He is no longer spouting empty slogans, such as his comments about Hamas leaders being wiped out in 48 hours. To the contrary, all of Liberman’s remarks were “seasoned,” in his brutal fashion, but in the style of the Military Headquarters.

If you would have told Liberman six months ago that he would accept the crazy idea that Palestinians in Gaza should have a sea port and an airport, he would laugh in your face. However, the Liberman of today is not only more moderate, he is smarter. He understands that from his chair on the fifteenth floor of the Kiriya Military Headquarters in Tel Aviv, Gaza looks different. It looks like one big headache, which bad risk management can turn into a migraine that nobody wants to experience.

And so it occurred that the man who once vowed to topple Hamas in two days time is allowing 800-1000 trucks a day into Gaza. Liberman learned in six-months time that a rehabilitated Gaza is better for Israel than a Gaza that is arming itself and digging tunnels, and therefore he turned directly to the people.

On social media networks the interview spread like wildfire and there were few Palestinians not talking about the Israeli defense minister’s comments in the past day. That is exactly what Liberman wanted. To reach every ear of two million Palestinians in the Strip and to all of the two-and-a-half million in the West Bank and east Jerusalem.

The bottom line is that the defense minister of the right-wing government is calling on Palestinians to choose peace and choose rehabilitation and Israel will give them back oxygen to breathe.

I have previously warned of the humanitarian danger in the Gaza Strip, a danger that can topple the Strip in less than a year and become one of the biggest humanitarian crises that the Palestinians have encountered. Israel is the last one who wants this to happen. Such a crisis would be Israel’s to handle, and if not, a deep whole would open up in Gaza which would be entered into by terrorist groups as happened in the Syrian Golan Heights.

Liberman understands well the human distress in Gaza, and therefore he has put aside his own opinion of Hamas and has called on moderate Palestinians to determine the question of their existence.

” As peacefully as possible and as violently as neccessary”, a really excellent way of putting it. It sounds something like a perfect way to end a lovely day.

The Arabs will never give up their barbaric and bloodthirsty hope of destroying the Jews..NEVER. and those who close their eyes and ears….and also their intelligences to this many times proven indisputable fact, are doomed to mumble into their beer…”We shudda..” and “We cudda”…. I know that all the Arabim should be pushed back to Jordan, or back to Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Egypt or wherever they came from, many just before 1948 to get the UNRWA “freebies” and the rest came after the British Mandate began, looking for work, with some nomadic Bedouins thrown in. So Lieberman is sure to fail, the Arabs will take the carrots, and perhaps make a few gestures to encourage him to donate more, because as we all know, the Jews in Israel have become soft headed since 1967, to the extent that although they knew for certain that in 1973, Egypt would attack any hour, the cabinet couldn’t decide even to mobilise fully, and allowed the U.S. to dictate to them that they had to allow Egypt the first strike.

If it hadn’t been for Nixon, Kissinger (the so-called Jew) would have allowed the Jews to run out of armaments, and make a humiliating peace. Which is why, regardless of Watergate, (a pinprick compared to today’s Clinton scandals) which I didn’t think so badly of, I regard him as one of the better Presidents, especially towards Israel. I always had a soft spot for him, being swindled out of the job by the Kennedy Democratic crooked system, and then, when President, inheriting the Vietnam war, which Kennedy brought the U.S.into, during the most difficult time in the social history of the country. It was that period which began the downfall of the U.S. as well as the respect and morality of the youth, which dragged down standards to their lowest level.

You can tell I never cared much for the Beatles, and groups like them..

In a Jackie Mason monologue, he was talking about some book on the psychology of sex, and he said….”do you know that one of every three women”….leaving the rest to the imagination. He continued.. “so every time I see three women walking together, I drive myself crazy wondering…WHICH IS THE ONE…which one is it…”@ Sebastien Zorn:

  3. Liberman has disgraced himself. Just as Arab countries are belatedly abandoning the contrived Palestinian cause in favor of an implicit alliance of necessity with Israel, this shmo makes these asinine counterproductive statements. The Palestinians are the worst people on this (or any other) planet, and no one cares about them except as a weapon to use against Jews. Their lone contribution to humanity is perfecting the technique of detonating their own children. They are Hitler-worshiping savages who rejoice at the murders of precious Jewish children. The Palis are so malicious that they would rather perpetually wallow in squalor than peacefully coexist with Jews. Fuck them straight to hell. They are owed nothing and should be given nothing.

  4. @ ArnoldHarris:
What’s wrong with ruling over them? While they remain in our land, they should be required to get permission, notarized and in triplicate in the unlikely event they might want to go the bathroom once in a while. Let them have to evacuate to evacuate. Ha ha.

  5. @ ArnoldHarris:
NO….!! The Arabim don’t belong in Israel, if they ever did, they have long, long ago lost any right to be there. They need to be pushed across the Jordan and play with the midget kinglet. He knows how to handle them without stay or mercy…That is, if his ramshackle regime holds together long enough. Without Israel’s support it would fall apart in a flash. So, being so dependent on Israel, why does the \jewish State suffer and allow such high-falutin’ behaviour from them, from the death penalty to anyone selling land(which they surely don’t have legal documentation for) to a Jew, to their outrageous and malicious behaviour at the Temple Mount.

All Arabs need to be ushed back where they came from, Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt and wherever the hell..I don’t care. They have no place, after 100 years of bloodthirsty open enemity, in our Land. Then Jews can quarrel to their heart’s content, swearing, laying curses, and waving fists….all without bloodshed.

  6. In the long run, if there ever is to be a Palestinian state, it will be confined to the Gaza territorial strip. The only other option is for Israel to militarily conquer and permanently occupy that territory and become the government of its 2 million Arabs.

Nonetheless, Israel should retake full control over the Gush Katif coastal area and rebuild its 18 Jewish settlements destroyed by the foolish actions of Ariel Sharon during his term as prime minister.

  7. @ Austin:
I agree. Israel needs to throw this “purity of arms” garbage out the window, tell the “international community” where it can go, re-conquer Gaza and pacify Gaza by any means necessary. Annex all of Judea, Samaria and Gaza (and if Hezbollah attacks, Southern Lebanon, as well.) Give the settlers back their land and encourage new Jewish settlement. And arm the settlers. Begin the process of getting rid of the Arabs, really Muslims.
I don’t think non-Muslim Arabs represent a threat, and Muslim “collaborators” also should be protected. I believe a big part of the reason Israel has such effective intelligence on the ground is that she has many secret supporters among the enemy. We must always protect our friends, and in such a way so as not to endanger them. I wonder if Progressives in the military/intelligence support appeasement because they are afraid of losing the support of those contacts.
This should be done as peacefully as possible but as violently as necessary.
Speed and surprise would be the key. The problem is that Progressives have taken over key positions including in Military and Intelligence in Israel. Hopefully that is changing.
At one point I noticed that the National Union had in its program that Israel should annex any contiguous territory from which attacks are launched. I really dug that. It’s what we in America did. It’s why we hardly ever get attacked. Unlike countries (who shall remain nameless to protect the foolish) that get attacked all the time. It’s like that old joke:

A:”I just read that a woman is attacked every 8 minutes in the United States.
    B: Oh, that poor woman.”

Today, a rational person must ask: Was the perp a Muslim?

  8. Ted – Review Liberman’s party web site. You will see a strong endorsement of the Two State Solution. While Bibi constantly bloviates about the TSS, at least Likud, officially, doesn’t support it.

So, perhaps Liberman has learned well from Bibi to talk like a hawk, and walk like a dove. Add to that Liberman’s verty anti-Jewish sentiments, and he is clearly far from an ideal leader for a Jewish State.

  9. It seems a load of rubbish to me. Isn’t it well known and proven that Hamas takes everything that comes in, and doles it out in small quantities making the Gazans pay through the nose for it. Unless and until Hamas is got rid of. The Arabim there can’t do it; they’ve set up a sort of government there. Even if they could, one of the several other terrorist groups would take over. They think parochially not strategically, and they all hate Israel and Jews as much or more than one another.

So whom does Lieberman expect to be dealing with, Hamas terrorists….??

  10. He is no doubt doing this to give opportunity for change. Expect a few more moves like this by all means possible seek peace and give the Palestinians a choic; accept or reject. When they reject let us see what happens when they attack again.,, He will be very responsive and pre-justified.
