As coalition talks approach their deadline, Jewish Home Central Committeemembers and party activists sent an urgent letter to chairman Naftali Bennett regarding vulnerable communities in Judea and Samaria.
Entitled, “Saving thousands of homes in Judea and Samaria from expected destruction,” the letter calls on the party leader to renew attempts to pass the failed Outpost Law from 2012.
The bill, authored by then MK Zevulun Orlev (Jewish Home), would have forbid eviction and demolition orders for Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria that have stood for four years and have at least twenty families.
It also stipulated that all petitions disputing land claims must be proven through accepted evidentiary means in a court competent to hear the case. Should such a claim be found valid the court would be directed to order monetary compensation or alternative grant of land for the plaintiff.
“Just before the close of coalition negotiations, in which our party made remarkable strides despite the complex political reality, we, members of the Central Committee and activists from across the country, appeal to you Naftali,leader of the national camp, please, work to promote building and Judea and Samaria and don’t let harm come to the communities there,” the letter states.
In the letter, the activists specifically reference a recent High Court ruling that homes in Ofra and Amona be destroyed, because “they aren’t built on state land.”
“This ruling has far-reaching implications for the destruction of thousands of homes in Judea and Samaria,” they stressed.
“In order to prevent this terrible reality, we sincerely ask you, do not give up on making the Outpost Law a condition of a coalition agreement. It is the only solution to end the saga of evictions and destruction in Judea and Samaria.”
Lieberman announces he will NOT join the coalition. This will now open the door to Labor joining the coalition. This has become a complete mess!!
It will also become very likely that Bayit Yehudi will also not be in the government.
a stopgap measure but would not help the mooted proposal of leaving outposts in a pal state so as to satisfy BB assurances that they would not be forcefully returned.
I strongly support the proposed law.
If Netanyahu can’t bring himself to authorize new construction at least he should agree to prevent Jews from being evicted from currently constructed homes in Judea and Samaria.
It should be a non-negotiable demand for Bayit Yehudi – it should not join the government just for the sake of portfolios but to actually advance Israeli sovereignty in its ancient homeland.
If it can’t secure that commitment from the Likud, its better off remaining in the opposition.
