Newt Gingrich on Kudlow: The Strategic Challenges in Confronting Iran

Peloni:  In addressing the importance of keeping the Straight of Hormuz open, Trump needs to solve the riddle of how to deal with the some 200,000 people whose very lives depend on the regime surviving this war, while also resolving the Gordian Knot regarding the lack of any organized opposition within Iran to transform what were protests into what is needed, ie an organized popular uprising. While Trump currently commands some 90% of support in the US to see the war through to victory, these are the challenges needed to gain that victory.  The windfall of success in this war is enormous, but so too would be the catastrophe of failure, and the defining line between these two begins with the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, but it doesn’t end there.

  1. I’m not sure of what you say, Peloni. It’s a little like pushing a rope…

The US can only do what it can do, then the people have to take over. If the “rest of the world” would be as enthusiastic about giving a hand up to the Iranian people as they were about giving a hand up to the “Palestinians” perhaps the world, including the US, would really have accomplished something.

The US can only do what it can do

There is an important caveat here to consider. The US either remains the world’s superpower as Trump asserts, or it is just one of many power centers in the world.

So if it is true that the US is dependent upon the ‘rest of the world’ for their support to see the success in this war, then we truly are in a new age of multipolarity. I don’t personally believe that this is currently true, but the outcome of this war will provide an important point of clarity on this issue, and one of the greatest aspects of victory will actually be to see the US come to significantly control China thru its need for energy, the sources for which the US will wield significant influence. So we will see – you might be right.
