At the beginning of this year, the speaker of eastern Libya’s parliament described a proposed maritime border deal with Turkey as “built on illegality.” However, on October 20, the same parliament unanimously approved the agreement. The agreement violates Greece’s internationally recognized maritime rights, opens the way for Turkish drilling in contested waters, and raises the prospect for armed conflict between Turkey and Greece.

PELONI: Was Bibi’s acquiescence in Gaza what Trump was leveraging his support for Bibi’s reelection or was it something else?  It is reasonable to believe that the transactional nature of Trump’s presidency would include his support for Bibi’s election bid, and there has been a clear point of tension emanating from Trump towards Bibi for some time now.  While we are still waiting for the first gun to be collected since Kushner announced that things would go very quickly, the prospect of the 15 Point Plan being made operational in the post election period has always remained a concern as no further activity on the Gaza front has occurred.

Trump’s 20 Point Plan was a bad plan from the outset.  It is impossible to be implemented without some form of significant force being applied toward Hamas, and such force will only come from Israel.  This is why the plan has been held in limbo over the past year with not actual real progress in the past year.  The only advancement of this plan would require Israel’s destruction of Hamas or a complete betrayal of Trump’s 20 Point Plan, something which Jared Kushner tried to implement in recent months.
