First the Golan, next Kurdistan

By Sherkoh Abbas and Robert Sklaroff, AMERICAN THINKER

On the day Kurds celebrated Nowruz (the Persian new year) and Jews celebrated Purim (the defeat of the Persian who wanted to exterminate them), President Trump recognized Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights, and the Islamic State was defeated.

These milestones in the history of the modern Middle East are a testament to victorious foreign and military policies of America and Israel.  The military outcome was presaged last year when Trump altered the rules of engagement, and the political outcome was presaged last week, when the State Department supplanted the official depiction of the Golan from Israeli-“occupied” to Israeli-“controlled” territory.

INTO THE FRAY: Israel’s High Court-When Legality loses its legitimacy

By Martin Sherman

In overturning a previous decision of the Knesset’s Central Elections Committee, the High Court took another giant step towards further undermining the already dwindling public confidence in the Israeli judiciary.

In Israel, the negative impact of the judicialization of politics on the Supreme Court’s legitimacy is already beginning to show its mark. Over the past decade, the public image of the Supreme Court as an autonomous and impartial arbiter has been increasingly eroded… [T]he court and its judges are increasingly viewed by a considerable portion of the Israeli public as pushing forward their own political agenda… – Prof. Ran Hirschl, Towards Juristocracy, Harvard University Press, 2004.

The public is further losing its faith in…the legal system, with only 36 percent of the Jewish public expressing confidence in the courts…– “Public’s faith in Israel’s justice system continues to plummet,” Haaretz, August 15, 2013.

Denmark, Austria, UK, Australia to oppose anti-Israel resolutions at UNHRC

Israel’s Foreign Ministry confirmed Thursday night that these four countries would vote “no” on all Agenda Item 7 resolutions to protest the UNHRC’s bias against Israel.

BY Tovah Lazaroff, JPOST

In a clear moral victory for Israel, Denmark, the United Kingdom and Australia are expected to oppose all five anti-Israel resolutions that the United Nations Human Rights Council is expected to approve on Friday as it ends its 40th session in Geneva.

Austria is expected to oppose the most egregious of the five,  the “accountability” resolution, which calls for an ams embargo against Israel.

Denmark and the UK have never taken such a stand before. All five resolutions are expected to pass, but the three votes against Agenda Item 7 resolutions is the clearest signal Israel has received to date that it has made inroads in its push to abolish the item.

J Street uncovers a secret about Netanyahu and Trump

by Victor Rosenthal

I think my interest in J Street could once have been called “obsessive.” I wrote numerous blog posts a few years ago, pointing out that the supposedly “pro-Israel, pro-peace” organization received financing from George Soros, mysterious billionaires in Hong Kong, and people associated with Iran, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and the Arab-American Institute. I noted – along with then Ambassador Michael Oren – that it consistently (one could say always) took positions opposed to almost any reasonable interpretation of Israel’s interests. I objected to its guiding principle, which seemed to be that it knew what was good for Israel far better than Israelis did, especially since following its recommendations would negatively impact Israel’s security. I wondered at the close coordination between J Street and the Obama Administration, which tried to anoint it as the voice of American Jewry toward Israel. And more.

Since I moved back to Israel in 2014, I’ve been less concerned with J Street, which is, after all, an American phenomenon. We have plenty of “interesting” politics right here. But recently I became aware of  a new J Street initiative, targeting PM Netanyahu, just before the election:

Analysis Russia’s Planned Exit From Syria Could Spell Trouble for Israel

By Zvi Bar’el, HAARETZ

Russian reports say Putin has instructed withdrawal of forces, besides aircraft ? Israel hopes move will pressure Iran to remove its forces as well, but Tehran has not signaled any such development

In Syrian President Bashar Assad’s palace in Damascus, they had almost no time to clear and reset the tables between all the important guests who came to visit this week. First came Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.

Another day, it was Iraqi military Chief of Staff Othman al-Ghanmi and his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Hossein Baqeri. Soon, delegations from other Arab nations are expected to arrive to discuss the possibility of inviting Syria to the Arab League summit, scheduled to be held in Tunisia at the end of the month.

The Muslim Brotherhood in America

To watch the course on YouTube, CLICK HERE.

About the Course

Have you ever asked yourself why, despite more than ten years of efforts –involving, among other things, the loss of thousands of lives in wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, well-over a trillion dollars spent, countless man-years wasted waiting in airport security lines and endless efforts to ensure that no offense is given to seemingly permanently aggrieved Muslim activists – are we no closer to victory in the so-called “war on terror” than we were on 9/11?

Thankfully, we have been able to kill some dangerous bad guys. The sad truth of the matter is that, by almost any other measure, the prospect of victory is becoming more remote by the day. And no one seems able to explain the reason.

In an effort to provide the missing answer, on April 24, the Center for Security Policy is making available via the Internet a new, free ten-part video course called “The Muslim Brotherhood in America: The Enemy Within.” This course connects the proverbial dots, drawing on a wealth of publicly available data and first-hand accounts to present a picture that has, for over a decade, been obscured, denied and suppressed:

America faces in addition to the threat of violent jihad another, even more toxic danger – a stealthy and pre-violent form of warfare aimed at destroying our constitutional form of democratic government and free society. The Muslim Brotherhood is the prime-mover behind this seditious campaign, which it calls “civilization jihad.”

Ten Years after Climategate, the Global Warming Fraud Is on Life Support

By David Archibald, AMERICAN THINKER

The global warming hysteria was reaching a crescendo in the lead up to the climate confab in Copenhagen in 2009 when a civic-minded person released the Climategate emails, deflating the whole thing. Those emails, concocted from the fevered imaginations of the scientists involved.

Nigh on 10 years have passed since then and we are currently experiencing another peak in the hysteria that seems to be coordinated worldwide. But why? Why now? The global warming scientists have plenty of time on their hands and plenty of money. Idle curiosity would have got some to have a stab at figuring out what is going to happen to climate. Do they see an imminent cooling and they have to get legislation in place before that is apparent?

The passage of those ten years has given us another lot of data points on the global warming. There are now 40 years of satellite measurements of atmospheric temperature and this is how that plots up for the Lower 48 States:

In Beit Shemesh, new highway collides with surprise biblical-era settlement

Unusual exhibit at Jerusalem’s Bible Lands Museum, ‘Highway to History,’ examines the State of Israel’s fraught attempts to balance preserving the past and developing the future

By AMANDA BORSCHEL-DAN, TOI

Salvage excavations at Tel Beit Shemesh, March 17, 2019. (Amanda Borschel-Dan/Times of Israel

It’s a culture clash three millennia in the making. During salvage excavations in preparation for a four-lane highway through the central Israeli city of Beit Shemesh, an extraordinarily preserved, otherwise unknown biblical-era settlement was unearthed.

Just months prior to the planned construction of a massive expansion of the existing Route 38, archaeologists uncovered unprecedented evidence of a thriving First Temple (8th-6th century BCE) settlement in the Kingdom of Judah, thought to have been laid waste in 701 BCE.

For archaeologists, this is an important missing piece of a historical puzzle.

‘US to recognize Israeli sovereignty over Golan next week’

Senior officials say US likely to officially recognize Israel’s annexation of Golan Heights – possibly as early as next week.

By David Rosenberg, INN

Donald Trump meets with Binyamin Netanyahu

The White House may be preparing to recognize Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights, say senior Israeli officials, suggesting that an announcement regarding recognition could come as early as next week.

According to a report Thursday morning by Israel’s Channel 13, senior Israeli officials believe the Trump administration is preparing to formally recognize Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights – ending a decades-long US policy of non-recognition of Israel’s annexation of the strategic plateau.

The officials cited by the report say the US could announce plans to recognize Israeli sovereignty over the Golan as early as next week, coinciding with Israeli premier Binyamin Netanyahu’s meeting with President Donald Trump in Washington, during the annual American Israel Public Affairs Committee conference.

Coming out of the antisemitic closet.

By Valerie Sobel

Not even two weeks after the dismal failure of Democrats to come up with enough votes to pass a categorical resolution to condemn antisemitism, Democratic Presidental hopeful Beto O’Rourke on his campaign trail in New Hampshire charges: “We have a prime minister in Israel who has openly sided with racists.”

Bam! Just like that, another Democrat comes out of the closet.

How many more to follow?

Good old antisemitism, always a loyal sidekick to the ideological left, is right back in fashion. Little by little, trope by Omqr trope, one democrat after another is queuing up to turn Israel into the pariah they know their base wants. And if tiny Israel is the pariah, Islam, which surrounds Israel, is surely the victim.

Understanding the Book of Esther without getting into a whole Megillah

The key in the Orthodox Jewish understanding of the book is that Mordechai wanted to circulate it throughout the empire, but he knew it had to get past the King and his censors.

By Rabbi Prof. Dov Fischer, INN

To avoid getting into a whole megillah, this brief summary, which includes selections from the midrash, assumes some basic acquaintance with the Biblical Book of Esther (Megillat Esther). The key in the Orthodox Jewish understanding of the book is that Mordechai wanted to circulate it throughout the empire, but he knew it had to get past the King and his censors.

Any offending word or implication in the text not only might condemn the book to be barred, but it might also get him killed by royal decree. Therefore, Mordechai wrote it in a way that much of the narrative is implied “between the lines” but not explicitly stated. The Talmudic traditions therefore fill in the missing parts of the story.

Key points:

It’s Time to KISS

by Linda Goudsmit, PUNDICITY

The familiar acronym KISS, “keep it simple stupid,” began as a design principle noted by the U.S. Navy in the 1960s according to Wikipedia. “The KISS principle states that most systems work best if they are kept simple rather than made complicated; therefore, simplicity should be a key goal in design, and unnecessary complexity should be avoided.

The current maelstrom created by Fox News suspending Judge Jeanine Pirro over a question she posed concerning the symbolism of Rep. Ilhan Omar’s hijab can best be understood using the KISS principle.

Mohammed, the 7th century prophet and founder of Islam, believed himself to be the messenger of the one and only god Allah. Mohammed believed that all people should honor Allah and only Allah. This was and continues to be the foundational premise of Islamic expansionism and its desire to establish a worldwide caliphate to make the whole world Muslim – including the United States. Islam is a replacement theology.

To the Left’s dismay, Trump helps Netanyahu

By Jonathan S. Tobin, ISRAEL HAYOM

When U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo arrives in Israel this week, it won’t be interpreted as just another routine stop as America’s chief diplomat seeks to reaffirm ties with an ally or to prepare the ground for the expected unveiling of U.S. President Donald Trump’s peace plan sometime later in the year. Instead, Israelis view Pompeo’s visit as the latest instance of America trying to intervene in their elections. With less than three weeks to go before Israelis head to the polls to elect a new Knesset, Pompeo’s presence is seen as a not-so-subtle hint to the voters of the Trump administration’s firm embrace of embattled Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Though supporters of Netanyahu’s rivals aren’t happy about it, most Israelis are likely to shrug at the Americans’ effort to give the prime minister a boost as he tries to win his fourth consecutive term and fifth overall as prime minister. The reason for their indifference is no secret. Israelis are quite used to American presidents trying to tell them how to vote. The only thing that’s different about this example is that for the first time, the White House is not trying to elect a left-wing government as they have several times before.

Rahm Emanual sold out Pollard

IMRA

[..]
Then there are those who have not only thrown away all sense of morals and justice and steadfastly refused to help their fellow Jew, but have actively joined his oppressors, in the delusion that this will somehow ingratiate
them to their political masters.

As the son of a former Irgun member, who was born in Yerushalayim, Rahm Emanuel ought to have been one of the loudest voices calling for justice in the heart-wrenching saga of Jonathan Pollard.

Emanuel was surely aware that the median sentence for the crime Pollard committed — passing classified information to an ally — was two to four years. No one else in the history of the United States has received anything
close to the life sentence that Pollard received for this offense.

The Definitive Takedown of the Charlottesville ‘Very Fine People’ Hoax

By Robert Kraychik, BREITBART

Robert E. Lee statue (Charlottesville, Virginia)
Wikipedia
Breitbart News Senior Editor-at-Large Joel Pollak dismantled the lie that President Donald Trump described white supremacists and neo-Nazis as “very fine people” following 2017’s demonstrations and riots in Charlottesville, VA. He offered his analysis during an introductory monologue on Monday’s edition of SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Tonight with co-host Rebecca Mansour.

Pollak began, “First we have to acknowledge that the terror attacks in Christchurch, New Zealand, were absolutely horrific independent of whatever political or philosophical arguments we might be getting into about them, now, especially with the media coverage. I thought it would be appropriate to quote George Orwell who wrote in Looking Back on the Spanish War, an essay of 1942: ‘Unfortunately, the truth about atrocities is far worse than that they are lied about and made into propaganda. The truth is that they happen.’ And that’s the thing above all that we are still very upset about, that this would happen at all.”

The ‘Times’ and Israel: A Review of 2018

The bottom line: Not good.

By Gilead Ini, COMMENTARY

New York Times

On the first day of 2018, the publisher of the New York Times wrote a letter to his readers. Quoth A.G. Sulzberger: “The Times will hold itself to the highest standards of independence, rigor and fairness—because we believe trust is the most precious asset we have.” Fairness and accuracy would be paramount, he promised, “and in the inevitable moments we fall short, we will continue to own up to our mistakes, and we’ll strive to do better.”

The date of the letter suggests it would be only fair to look closely at the 12 months of journalism that followed and judge whether the Times delivered on Sulzberger’s promise of impartial, accurate reporting. That is what the media-monitoring organization CAMERA did when producing a timeline assessing a year’s worth of the newspaper’s coverage of the Arab–Israeli conflict. The timeline, alas, makes clear that the Times fell far short of those promised standards when it came to its coverage of Israel and its opponents.
