A clear explanation of how Israel is ruled by a judicial despotism that is not accountable to the people.

Israel is ruled by the Supreme Court. The legislature is not sovereign to legislate, and the executive lacks actual control to execute the instructions of the legislature. The judiciary has established itself as superior to all other branches of the government; intimating that it knows better what the country needs than the people and their elected representatives.

Israel has no constitution. It has “Basic Laws” passed by the Knesset, Israel’s parliament, at different times by different governments led by different political parties.

Basic Laws are enacted by ordinary legislative procedures. Only about one-quarter of the Knesset’s members voted for those Basic Laws! In Israel, no quorum is required to pass legislation.

In Michael Oren’s new book, Ally, (which I like quite a lot), he expresses a sentiment that is often heard in Israeli discourse:

If the First Intifada was not sufficiently convincing, the Second thoroughly persuaded me that Israel had to change the status quo in the territories. Yes, these were our tribal lands. The Bible speaks of the West Bank cities Bethlehem, Shiloh, and Hebron, not of Tel Aviv or Haifa. And many of the settlements helped thicken our pre-1967 lines, which were as narrow as nine miles across. But Israel had to weigh its historic rights and security needs against [a] the moral and political costs of dominating another people. It had to reconcile its real fears of the West Bank becoming a terrorist haven similar to South Lebanon, with [b] its need to preserve its right to defend itself and its international legitimacy as a sovereign Jewish state. [p. 36, my emphasis]

I don’t reproduce this to criticize Oren in particular. It is a view that many Israelis share, and Oren has earned his right to think and say what he wants about his country, both as a public servant and as a combat soldier. But I think if we look at precisely what this statement means, we can see that it is wrong, even self-contradictory.

The Jews of Israel oppose the agreement with Iran. The Jews of America support it. The just-released LA Jewish Journal survey turns an assumption into a fact: The two largest Jewish communities cannot agree on a major world development that could significantly change the state of the Jewish state.

Israel will discover today — much to many Israelis’ surprise (because they don’t much understand American Jews) — that it cannot count on the majority of American Jewry to fight the battle against the agreement alongside it. A majority of American Jews will discover today that amid all the noise made by opponents of the deal, not much has changed for them as a group: They support President Barack Obama; they vote Democratic; they approve of the agreement. American Jews are just like Americans, as sociologist Steven Cohen, who oversaw the survey, writes: They are all skeptical about the deal, but their politics dictate the way they ultimately see it.

I watched the Hannity interview from 4 weeks ago and a current speech.

He is for job creation, against illegal immigration, against the Iran deal, against Hillary, Jeb Bush and John McCain, for bombing the oil supplies that ISIS controls, for protecting Israel, for standing up to Iran etc etc.

Dan Freeman. For my money, this is a very significant event. Father Gabriel Naddaf, is a native of Israel and a pro-Zionist Greek Orthodox priest – a friend of Jews and Israel. Independently, I do know that on Monday British PM David Cameron announced his government’s new plan to fight “Islamist extremism,” and that it was widely reported in the UK press (but not here naturally.) Judging by Cameron’s words, Britain has finally decided it’s had enough, and “Islamic extremism” has become a threat to their country and way of life they won’t tolerate anymore. This is quite a turnabout for a nation that only yesterday was inured to Islamic beheadings, child grooming rings, no-go zones and Muslim attempts to take over British school systems. This means that England and its leaders have just leapfrogged the duplicitous Barack Hussein Obama and the PC-infected American people. Maybe, if and when Obama leaves office, we can summon up our own disgust and get the Islamist monkey off our backs too.

The comparison between PM Golda Meir’s Yom Kippur War debacle and PM Netanyahu’s nuclear Iran debacle does a great disservice to Golda. Golda was surprised, Golda was misled; Netanyahu had the information and he also had yours truly, who attempted in every way possible to explain to him the significance of the information that he had.

Netanyahu’s fiasco is exponentially bigger than Golda’s. But not because he didn’t succeed in ensuring accords more favorable to Israel. Netanyahu failed when he transferred Israel’s Iran problem to the international arena.

Permits seen as attempt by Defense Minister Ya’alon to appease settler leaders after High Court ordered demolition of two illegal structures in settlement of Beit El.

The Civil Administration in the West Bank is set to grant permits for the construction of a total of 906 new housing units on Thursday, the first such approval in a year.

The permits are seen as being part of an attempt by Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon to appease settler leaders following a High Court ruling that two illegal structures in the settlement of Beit El must be demolished.

Among the permits to be issued by the Civil Administration’s planning and building committee today is approval for the construction of 296 units in Beit El, to be built on the site of a Border Police base that will be evacuated. This construction is compensation for Beit El’s agreement to evacuate five buildings on the site known as Ulpana Hill, which had been built on private Palestinian land.

July 20, 2015, a Ma’agar Mochot poll found that 46% of Israelis opposed any withdrawal from Judea and Samaria; 39% said that they would consider a partial withdrawal under certain conditions; only 12 % supported withdrawal.

Containing Iran is no longer practical or possible. Obama has fulfilled his promise to change the world. The State of Israel has been abandoned and whatever regional stability undermined. That is Obama’s legacy.

The danger of Obama’s deal with Iran is not only that it enables Iran to become a nuclear power, but that it empowers Iranian proxies, Hamas, Hezbollah, the Alawite regime in Syria led by Assad, Shiites in Iraq, Houthis in Yemen and terrorist organizations everywhere. Given access to the international banking system, moreover, the deal also allows Iran to transfer funds directly into bank accounts; no more need to smuggle suitcases full of cash. This will provide Hamas and other terrorist groups in the Palestinian Authority (PA) with resources to overthrow the current ruling clique, led by Pres Mahmud Abbas.

European Council on Foreign Relations calls on EU to differentiate between activities in Israel and in disputed territories, targeting banking, loans, tax-exemption status and recognition of professional qualifications from West Bank institutions.

The European Union agreed this week to push ahead with labeling Israeli goods made in settlements in the West Bank, a move that has alarmed the Israeli government; but now there are proposals to go much further, including targeting Israeli banks.

In a paper to be published on Wednesday, the European Council on Foreign Relations, whose proposals frequently inform EU policymaking, argues that the EU is in breach of its own laws and must move much more firmly to distinguish its dealings with Israel from Israel’s activities in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, which it has captured in 1967 Six-Day War.

Ayelet Shaked seeks to organize status of West Bank settlements by establishing a committee that would provide legal solutions to issue of land ownership.

Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked of Bayit Yehudi has recently begun the process of establishing a committee to organize the legal status of land plots in the West Bank. According to Shaked, the committee’s establishment means residents of the West Bank will cease fearing the threat of land ownership disputes.

The coalition agreement between Bayit Yehudi and Likud includes a clause which calls for establishing a professional panel that would discuss proposals seeking to organize the status of buildings and neighborhoods within Jewish settlements in the West Bank with the relevant authorities.

Deputy Foreign Minister Hotovely meets European officials to demand governments stop providing cash to allegedly anti-Israel organizations.

Israel is demanding that European Union member states halt funding to non-governmental organizations allegedly working to delegitimize the Jewish state. The Foreign Ministry claims that European governments provide 100-200 million euros annually to said groups.

Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely has begun a series of consultations with European foreign ministers, their deputies, and ambassadors of several European countries, in which she is presenting evidence that their governments provide financial assistance to organizations that support boycotts against Israel, “blacken its face around the world, accuse it of ethnic cleansing, apartheid, and war crimes; deprive the Jewish people of their right to self-determination, call to prosecute Israel in the International Criminal Court at The Hague, and support the right of return”.

The devil in Obama’s deal with Iran is not in the mind-numbing details, but in the big picture. The deal guarantees Iran will get the bomb. It gives the Iranian regime $150b.

Washington Post columnist David Ignatius is a reasonable man. After hearing back to back interviews with US Secretary of State John Kerry and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about the Obama administration’s pact with Iran’s ayatollahs, he tried to balance them out.

Speaking Sunday on CBS’s Face the Nation, Ignatius equivocated that on the one hand, “My takeaway [from Kerry] is that the details of this deal are pretty solid, that it’s been carefully negotiated, that it will hold up for 10 years or more.”

I will not add to the flow of articles that have more than adequately analyzed the horrendous long-term consequences of U.S. President Barack Obama’s capitulation to the Iranian ayatollah, who to this day explicitly identifies the destruction of Israel as a primary objective and endorses calls of death to America and Israel by his followers.

Iran is an Islamic global counterpart to Hitler’s dictatorship in its fiendish denial of human rights. Yet the U.S. is effectively rewarding and reinforcing the leading global promoter of terrorism for its ongoing commitment and fanatic determination to undermine the democratic world. Beyond transforming Iran into a threshold nuclear state, Obama has provided Tehran with $150 billion to intensify its global terrorist activities, in addition to the removal of embargoes of conventional arms and ballistic missiles, thus bringing European and North American cities into the range of Iranian missiles.
