But if we take a step backward and consider what we already know or ought to know about Iran’s nuclear weapons program, it should become rather quickly obvious that all this diplomatic wrangling about centrifuges, enrichment levels, inspection regimes, and sunset clauses is nothing but window dressing.

That’s because the real Iranian nuclear weapons program very likely is not the one they’re all tussling over. The real Iranian nuclear weapons program long ago was withdrawn behind an impenetrable wall of secrecy guarded by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) and the Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS—Iran’s primary intelligence agency).

T. Belman. I am opposed to this legislation. The focus of the Senate should be to deal with this as a treaty. No one is talking about the fact that the deal is giving Iran the right to have a nuclear bomb in 13 years and the right to destroy Israel. It stinks to high heaven.

President Obama says he wants Congress to play a role in approving a nuclear deal with Iran, but his every action suggests the opposite. After months of resistance, the White House said Tuesday the President would finally sign a bill requiring a Senate vote on any deal- and why not since it still gives him nearly a free hand.

Modern Presidents have typically sought a Congressional majority vote, and usually a two-thirds majority, to ratify a major nuclear agreement. Mr. Obama has maneuvered to make Congress irrelevant, though bipartisan majorities passed the economic sanctions that even he now concedes drove Iran to the negotiating table.

T. Belman. Egypt could be on the verge of a civil war. Obviously Egypt can’t do much to help Saudi Arabia fight the Houtis in Yemen. Egypt has about the same population as does Iran but Iran has oil wealth. Saudi Arabia is in a quandary. It supports ISIS in Iraq and Syria as a force to confront Iran. It also wages war against the Muslim Brotherhood. In Eqypt both ISIS and the MB are fighting Egypt. Obviously Israel has vital interests here. If you think Gaza represents a problem to Israel, think how much bigger a problem will be if The Sinai starts attacking Israel?

Perhaps simply too many sympathize with the insurgency.

Almost every day there are reports of army operations against Sinai-based terrorists and/or terrorist attacks against security personnel, government structures or civilian targets.

On Tuesday, assailants shot and killed a policeman and wounded two others in Qalyubia Governorate, in the Nile Delta, on Monday, gunmen shot a soldier in Sinai, Aswat Masriya reported, citing Egypt’s state news agency MENA.

Members of a group of Jewish supporters of the Democratic Party who met with President Barack Obama this week urged him to remove the long-standing American veto protection of Israel at the United Nations. The group, affiliated with the left-wing lobby group J Street, pledged to support the president within the Jewish community in the event of a Security Council resolution calling for the creation of a Palestinian State.

The exchange took place in the second of two meetings Obama held with American Jewish leaders to discuss the current negotiations with Iran over its nuclear program, as well as other regional issues. According to a source who was in the room, one J Street supporter told the president that if he decided to back a Palestinian state resolution over Israeli objections, “let us know first, and we’ll do the legwork for you, in the community… so you’re not going to come in cold.” Among the J Street supporters who were part of the delegation meeting with Obama were Alexandra Stanton, Lou Susman and Victor Kovner.

Much has been said about the strange behavior of Barack Obama, who can’t let a day go without maligning Israel and Mr. Netanyahu. In contrast, he displays friendship to a thug and anti-Semite like Recip Tayyip of Turkey, palled around with the deceased communist Hugo Chavez, and keeps standing up for the Iranian mullahs who want to kill us all or make us slaves to Islam. Those in the media who see politics simply as a stand-off between personalities ascribe all this to a clash of personalities: Obama doesn’t like PM Netanyahu and Netanyahu returns the dislike.

No doubt the dislike is there, but what underlies the animosity of Obama toward PM Netanyahu goes beyond schmoozability to seismic differences in outlook and policy. In fact, at Mr. Netanyahu’s very first White House meeting, before they really knew each other, Obama purposely mistreated PM Netanyahu by forcing him to enter through a side entrance and, then, abruptly left the meeting and went upstairs by himself for dinner while leaving PM Netanyahu and his staff without hospitality or even a piece of bread. This was a deliberate, unheard of disparagement, directed more at Israel, the state represented by Netanyahu, than it was at Mr. Netanyahu per se.

In the end, Democrats – even those who dearly want Congressional input in the Iran deal – balked at the prospect of undercutting Obama by holding the threat of Congressional disapproval over his head. As for Corker and the Republicans, it’s clear that the president is going to take the deal to the UN Security Council to seek approval there rather than Congress. The only realistic chance they had of having any input at all was in watering down the bill so that Democrats would feel comfortable voting for it.

In the end, the principle of Congressional oversight is maintained, but the reality is that Congress will have its hands tied in giving an up or down vote on the deal. There is still a chance that Congress can derail the agreement if the final deal is unpalatable enough. But as we’ve seen with the framework deal, the administration will interpret the agreement any way they want in order to sell it to a skeptical country.

After 2000 years of exile, the citizens of the modern State of Israel can be proud of their phenomenal technological achievements in just 67 years.  It’s as if the gift of Time itself has been bestowed on the Jewish State for the benefit of humanity.

Israel is at the forefront of the age-old fight against cancer.  In 2004 Professor Aaron Ciechanover of Israel’s Technion won the Nobel Prize for Chemistry by identifying the ubiquitin pathway that controls the timing of cell death.  11 years later, scientists working in Professor Ciechanover’s laboratory, have identified the chemicals in the body that suppress malignant growth and protect healthy cells.  In another line of research, scientists at Israel’s Weizmann Institute have identified that tumors can be triggered by information-overload at the cell level.  They have also found a molecule that can block inter-cell messages, allowing the cell nucleus more time to behave correctly.  Meanwhile, up to 20 Nobel Prize laureates are giving up their time this summer, in order to attend the World Science Conference in Jerusalem. The five-day event will be the largest such event of its kind ever to be held, attracting scientists and thinkers from 60 countries.

Some months ago, I shared with my readers news about a scrupulously researched report, done by Regavim, on the issue of EU facilitation of building of illegal Bedouin settlements in Area C of Judea and Samaria.

(Area C is the region of Judea and Samaria designated by the Oslo Accords as being fully under Israeli control, with regard to both civil and security administration.  All Jewish communities beyond the Green Line are in Area C. Area A is fully under PA control, and Area B is under PA civil control and  Israeli security control.)

Never have I seen a political leader pander so shamelessly to an aggressor, like Obama to Iran, since reading the history books talk about Neville Chamberlain.

Diplomacy almost always favors the aggressor, the morally weak, but rarely the strong and righteous, since it buys time and delays action. And diplomacy without consequences is madness. In times past the United States sat at the negotiating table with a simple message to the folks on the opposite side … “sign here!”  Easy to do when you are willing to win, drive a hard bargain, and hold most of the cards. That’s the goal isn’t it?

Explosive report claims Netanyahu promised coveted position in return for support for early elections – then promptly reneged on his pledge.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu promised Jewish Home party head NaftaliBennett the highly-coveted position of defense minister several months prior to the elections – and then promptly broke that promise.

A Channel Two report has exposed how Netanyahu approached Bennett in November of last year and asked him to support a decision to fire Yesh Atid leader Yair Lapid and Hatnua head Tzipi Livni from the coalition. After Yisrael Beytenu party head, Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman, opposed replacing Lapid and Livni with the haredi parties, Netanyahu turned to Bennett to garner his support for dismissing the two minister anyway and usher in early elections.

The decision by the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories to allow Palestinian doctors to enter Israel with their vehicles has left some Palestinians wondering whether Israel and the Palestinian Authority are maintaining secret back-channel talks.

The latest COGAT decision regarding Palestinian vehicles follows a series of steps Israel has taken since its March 17 elections. These steps stand in sharp contrast to reports about growing tensions between Israel and the PA, especially in the wake of the Palestinian decision to join the International Criminal Court and threats to suspend security coordination between the two sides.

Israel’s first gesture came even before the election, when Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon ordered water to be hooked up to the new Palestinian city of Rawabi.

T Belman. I intentionally posted the article from the NYT. I have some trouble with this “victory”. It seems to me that it is all about holding Iran accountable rather than ensuring that Iran doesn’t get the bomb in 13 years. If Congress approves of the deal that paves the way for Iran to get the bomb it is no victory at all.
