Iran has paid close attention to the decision by the Houthis to come to an agreement with the US. Oman helped mediate this agreement. Iran is watching the plans by US President Donald Trump to visit the region, and it is seeking to continue talks with the US.

Peloni: The US should focus its efforts on both maximal economic pressure and military strikes to eliminate Iran’s nuclear capabilities. These don’t contradict each other, but are complimentary efforts which would limit the capabilities of the current regime and advantage the Iranian opposition, but the Iranian opposition has a role to play as well and there is much which the US could do to directly support the opposition forces as well.

How should the Americans hasten the fall of the Iranian regime? They must tighten the economic screws. They must not lift sanctions, but double down on sanctions. The Iranians, with one-third of them now living below the poverty line, are in despair. The Israeli military confirmed that it carried out airstrikes on May 5 against Houthi targets in Yemen, a day after a ballistic missile launched by the Iran-backed group struck the grounds of Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv, injuring at least six people.
