Greatest Misinformation Campaign Since Russia Hoax’: Project 2025[1]

Wednesday, July 17, 2024

Guest Editorial: Elizabeth Mitchell

Left-wing smears of  Project 2025 constitute “probably the greatest misinformation campaign since the Russia hoax,” the head of the initiative for the next conservative president said Monday at The Heritage Foundation’s Policy Fest at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee.

Is Informational Asymmetry a Market Failure?

Lemons absolutely exist, but so does Carfax.

Walter E. Block | July 17, 2024

We all seek an end to fraud. Aside from being inherently wrong, this type of crime also undermines the economy. Yes, mutual gains from fraudulent transactions can still be made ex ante (looking ahead). This is so for all commercial interaction, without exception. Each side, even in fraudulent interactions, expects to gain in utility from the purchase or sale or rental or borrowing or lending, etc. However, fraud plays havoc with utility ex post (after the fact). Only one side can gain; the other is the clear loser. All men of good will must necessarily oppose fraud, as it is in opposition to human flourishing.

The Attempted Assassination — Part 2

John Droz jr. | July 17, 2024

This is a good time for some critical thinking

By now there are likely a thousand articles written about the attempted assassination of Donald Trump. For those who missed it, this was my initial commentary — and it still remains rather original in tone and perspective. Many of the others are quite good and I cited several examples as references (see the end of my prior post).

One that deserves special attention is the commentary by Dr. Robert Malone. Although it is too long and covers too many topics, the gist of it is important: it discusses evil. We tend to think of evil people as those who have corrupted standards (immorality, greed, etc.). Also, Thomas Crooks doesn’t really look like an evil person…

Israel Update: The Consequences of the Attempt on Trump’s Life

Peloni: Mike and Gadi discuss the fallout surrounding the assassination attempt against Trump, as well as the threats which are continuously being made against Bibi.  Mike explains that Trump’s image of strength following this event, will serve to strengthen both Israel and Bibi as a result.  Gadi and Mike also discuss the consequence of Deif’s possible death, and the power struggle between Sinwar and the Hamas leadership in Doha.  At the end of the program, Mike explains that it is important to grasp the fact that the military leadership is cognizant of the extent of US manipulation on Israel’s military capabilities, and challenges his detractors to wait for proof that the true motivation of the military elites to act as Gallant is now acting is based on political interests rather than military stratagems.

Court Orders Pro-Pal Group to Release Financial Records

Peloni: The front group behind the anti-Israel protests in the US has been ordered by a Virginia court to disclose its financial transactions to a state investigation into allegations of financing terrorisms.  A very important ruling.

J.D. Vance on a Foreign Policy for the Middle Class

Peloni:  This foreign policy speech by Vance, delivered before the Quincy Institute, provides an important insight into Vance’s world view.  Notably, the speech was just under 30 min. in length, and Vance explains that it is not intended to provide an encompassing description of his views, but he does discuss what he describers as two important topics, and while the first topic is China, the second topic is Israel.

How Cairo Is Failing the Palestinians

Peloni:  Egypt is entirely complicit in the arming of Hamas, while also providing Hamas with their Pal human shields locked in Gaza.

David May & Haisam Hassanein | FDD | July 15, 2024

Egypt recently hosted top US and Israeli officials for Israel-Hamas ceasefire discussions. But nine months into a war that Hamas launched, Egypt has often exacerbated the conflict and largely evaded criticism for intensifying Palestinian suffering.

CIA director Bill Burns, top Biden Middle East advisor Brett McGurk, and senior Israel officials arrived in Cairo earlier this month to discuss a ceasefire deal, the release of Israeli hostages held in Gaza, and mechanisms for securing the Egypt-Gaza border.

The last element is pivotal for weakening Hamas. The terrorist group has imported much of its weaponry via tunnels underneath the Gaza-Egypt border. Shutting off that valve is central to Israel’s war plans. In May, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that it discovered around 20 tunnels along the Philadelphi Corridor, the strip of land that runs along the Egypt-Gaza border, most of which crossed into Egypt.

Now What?

By Victor Rosenthal | July 12, 2024

“…the great IDF, that was supposed to protect them, disappeared and left them alone against a satanic and bloodthirsty enemy that murdered, burned, raped, looted, and kidnapped for long hours almost without interference.” – Yoav Limor, Israel Hayom, 12 July 2024.

The real dimensions of Israel’s failure to provide for the most basic part of the social
contract, to protect its citizens against attack, are only now becoming clear. But nine
months after the disaster of 7 October 2023, one thing is undeniable:

Almost all of those in the government, the IDF, and all the security services who were
responsible for the policies that made the invasion and massacre possible, who did not
have adequate contingency plans, who ignored compelling intelligence information
beforehand, and whose response was inexcusably slow and inadequate, still have their
jobs.

Israel should not be stuck with a “fair fight” against Hezbollah

Peloni:  A very important analysis by J.E. Dyer.  Highly recommended.

This fight must be to win.

J.E. Dyer, a retired Naval Intelligence officer, blogs as The Optimistic Conservative.

Even more “opening” caveat:  As I prepare to post this article, former President Trump has just been shot at his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.  He appears to have been hit – grazed – just above his right ear.  He got up on his own, fist pumped the crowd, and went offstage surrounded by his Secret Service escort.

Trump being shot at is fresh and powerful evidence that the war on both the U.S. and Israel is being fought for keeps.  This isn’t a war to preserve the status quo.  The aggressor-opponent is fighting to take down the stabilizing, freedom-protecting power of both nations.  With all their warts, Trump and Netanyahu are the men whose guiding hands the enemy wants to eliminate.

Trump’s foreign-policy platform reflects his first-term achievements

Richard Goldberg | FDD | July 16, 2024

President Biden’s foreign-policy failures have set the world on fire — and the conflagration is now the backdrop as Republicans present their very different vision.

Biden has invited multiple conflicts by his projection of American weakness, his open border welcoming drugs and terrorists, an energy policy that attacks American-made resources but promotes our enemies’ products and a defense-industrial base unprepared for war against China (let alone its wider axis).

THE SHOT HEARD ‘ROUND THE WORLD

Peloni: While I agree with the general sentiments cited by Kirkland in this article, it has long been my view that what was achieved at Nuremberg was less than justice, and I would argue that what is needed in this moment is not to empower such a tribunal with powers greater than that of the individual nation states.  The source of many of the crimes which Kirkland suggests should be tried in another extra-national tribunal extends from the globalist ambitions, ambitions which would only be augmented by empowering such an extra-nationalist court.  In fact, I would argue that these crimes should be weighed in the local communities in which their toll was exacted.  Ceding this responsibility to something presumed to be more powerful or legitimate than the nation states in which the crimes were committed would only serve to delegitimize the nation states as the model best capable of serving justice for the respective communities of the world.

The Zapruder Film of the Trump Assassination Attempt, July 13, 2024

The original fighting of the Revolutionary War began with a shot that has unknown origins, although most historians and witness accounts place it on an agitated British Soldier.

I concur. Had it been an American, he would have come forward after America’s shocking victory against what was then the greatest standing Army in the Western hemisphere.

He’d have been hailed an HERO.

During the Crisis, Free Speech Worked Brilliantly

Peloni:  A really insightful endorsement of free speech.

| July 15, 2024

There is only one major social media platform that is relatively free of censorship. That is X, once known as Twitter, and owned by Elon Musk, who has preached free speech for years and sacrificed billions in advertising dollars in order to protect it. If we don’t have that, he says, we lose freedom itself. He also maintains that it is the best path to finding the truth.

The crisis that broke out after the attempt on Donald Trump’s life put the principle in motion. I was posting regular updates and never censored. I’m not aware of anyone who was. We were getting second-by-second updates in real time. The videos were flying along with every conceivable rumor, many false and then corrected, alongside free speech “spaces” in which everyone was sharing their views.
