The challenges Israel is currently grappling with are no less significant, and possibly even more daunting, than those faced by the nascent state of Israel in 1948. The nation clearly understands the existential peril that Israel faces. And Prime Minister Netanyahu’s keen understanding of the nation’s readiness to make sacrifices is aiding him in effectively addressing the country’s grave crises.

At long last, the Prime Minister has assumed control over the strategic objectives of the war. The plans he unveiled involve taking decisive action to eliminate Hamas’s hold on power, both militarily and politically. To destroy Hezbollah’s leadership, disarm them and remove them from southern Lebanon. And most crucially, to incapacitate Iran, the central figure behind multiple terrorist proxies, eradicating it as a source of existential danger to the Jewish state. Netanyahu has repeatedly stressed the gravity of the nuclear threat from Iran. The current public sentiment in Israel heavily leans towards endorsing a military operation against Iran’s nuclear installations.

Peloni:  The intent of US aid in the current context is to manipulate Israel into maintaining the defense of its borders as missiles rain down on them rather than eliminating the threat which exists on the other side of those borders.  Israel must continue to ignore this imposed limitation on their sovereignty and defend itself with offensive means as it has been doing over the past year.  Of course, this war could be resolved in a much shorter time frame and with far fewer casualties on all sides if the US acted as Israel’s ally rather than that of Iran’s, but for this we will have to await the return of good governance in the US with a favorable outcome in the US next month.

The latest military aid deal from the Biden-Harris Administration to Israel.

Fine statements were made by the UN Administration over the recently announced $5.2B military aid package to Israel.

Although announced as an increase to the previous $3.3B package, this new package is strongly restricted to defensive items such as missile defense, not affirmative weaponry.

Peloni:  The moment to strike Iran’s nuclear facilities has been long overlooked.  The time to fulfill this deficit in rational policy is now.  In the past, Bibi has been outmaneuvered and overruled by his political allies and opponents alike in coordination with American pressure, but the tides have shifted and the moment is ripe for Bibi to carry out the strike which should have been pursued at his insistence nearly 15 years ago.  The opportunity to secure Israel’s future must not be ignored again.

Israel defending itself may save Western Civilization, despite the west’s disposition to whither.

On 7 October 2023, Hamas unleashed a well-planned and coordinated attack, launching 4,300 rockets in a day to divert Israel’s defence establishment from a multi-pronged ground assault on Israeli territory, with a resultant massacre of over 1,200 Israeli and international civilians; in addition to military personnel killed, including rape of women and slaughter of children, directed by Iran.

Most of these women and children were then subsequently butchered.

On 7 October 2024, Hamas fired 4 rockets, all intercepted by Israel’s Iron Dome.  While 4 rockets is already 4 too many, the contrast displays the shift in the Gaza ‘section’ of this war, over the past year.

Peloni: Bryen provides an important look back on vital lessons learned too late, and the consequences of those nations who still stand as poor students of history and who are still struggling to grasp the reality in which they live.  As Israel has turned the corner this past year and is facing reality as needed, it is still being restrained by the US as it fails to do the same.  Until Washington realigns its perspective with that of Israel, it will continue to rachet up the Israeli butcher’s bill, delay Israel’s victory, and render what victory is achieve as somewhat less permanent than otherwise might have been achieved.

Israel is a Western country, not immune to the Western post-Cold War belief that differences could be negotiated and diplomacy could prevail. Russia had collapsed without a shot; China had not yet risen. The “peace dividend” was a thing — Israel wanted to believe; Israel was wrong.

The Hamas “pogrom” of October 7, 2023, was not the beginning of the war and it was not the “escalation” of the war. It was the continuation of Arab-Iranian wars against Israel and the United States that began decades ago. (The first Palestine Liberation Organization summer camps teaching children to hate and kill were exposed by Life Magazine in 1970, years before the Iranian revolution.)

United Nations’ demographers project that, by the end of this century, Turkey’s labor force will fall by half and Iran’s will fall by two-fifths while Israel’s will double.

Turkish women in 2023 were estimated to have an average of just 1.5 children over their lifetime, half of Israel’s total fertility rate of 3 children per woman. The World Bank puts Iran’s  2022 fertility rate at 1.7.

Improbable as it may seem, the core scenario according to present trends will make Israel the economic center of the Middle East sometime toward the end of the century.

What really happened then and what is really happening now.

On Oct 7, 2023, thousands of Hamas terrorists invaded Israel. Their mission was to wipe out the Jewish population in the nearby towns, secure them and use them as forward operating bases for the next phase of the war. While the atrocities they committed in that initial assault, entire families burned alive in their homes, women raped and kidnapped, and babies killed, made it look like a terrorist attack on a large scale, Oct 7 had not been meant as a hit and run operation.

Hamas had risked too much and put too many men in the field for it to be anything other than an invasion. Its plans to continue advancing into Israel appear unrealistic only out of context.
