E. Rowell:  The Obama Administration responded to a 2012 conflict in the South China sea by “mediating’ between the Philippines and China. The end result was the  the Philippines went back to their shores, but China stayed in the Scarborough Shoals.  Right where they were during the conflict*.  It is unclear what the Biden administration’s response would be to provocations by China at this time.  Judging by foreign policy past performance, the Biden Administration appears to effect foreign policy that is destructive to US interests and puts our enemies’ needs first.  We can see this play out in the conflict with Russia, in which the US overtly appears to want Russia destroyed, but the effects of Biden’s policies has been to destroy the US economy and potentially to destroy NATO itself.  Biden policy in the Middle East also is geared to meeting the needs of Hamas, Iran, Qatar, Egypt, and Hezbollah, at the expense of Israel and US defensive deterrence in the land and waters of the Middle East.

China’s announcement of its intention to enforce a law that would arrest foreign nationals venturing into waters it claims in the South China Sea (SCS) may be the trigger for a direct military confrontation with the United States. The regulation, known as the Administrative Law Enforcement Procedures for Coast Guard Agencies, will come into force on June 15, 2024.

Violent incidents between US ally, the Philippines, and China, have been ratcheting up in recent months. Dramatic film footage by Britain’s Sky News showed several large Chinese Coast Guard vessels pounding a smaller Philippine Coast Guard ship with powerful water cannons in disputed waters surrounding the Scarborough Shoal.

NATO is flirting with war and extinction.  France is now “officially” sending troops to Ukraine (they have been there for some time) and NATO countries are demanding strikes deep inside Russia.  Meanwhile the US has secretly made a “policy shift” that somewhat falls short of what Zelensky wanted, but opens the door to deep strikes by the US on Russian territory.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken says that the US deep strike authorization is “misinformation” but he did not deny the change in US policy. He claims it is Russian disinformation, but the reports came from Washington and not from Russia.

Rowell:  Israeli military leaders are mindful of the power the US exerts in terms of weapons procurement.  However, there is a calculation to be made in formulating battle plans:  which plan will defeat the enemy most effectively with the fewest IDF casualties?  If the Biden directives call for a plan that will be less effective or ineffective at defeating the enemy AND also cause maximum IDF casualties, how can Israeli military leaders justify honoring them?  Surely weaponry can be supplied to Israel some other way than having to accept degrading terms from the United States.  There is a report of the US discussing the ceasefire with Gallant and Gantz.  There is a word for those who help the enemy in a time of war.

Three soldiers from Israel Defense Forces (IDF) were killed on May 28, when they encountered a Hamas booby trap in a building in Rafah. In a separate incident, three other soldiers were killed in a Hamas improvised explosive device (IED) attack on May 18.

Rowell:  Victor Davis Hanson identifies the Baby Boomer generation as responsible for the destruction of America.  There is a portion of this generation who took up the mantle of socialism and communism.  This portion demonstrated against the War in Vietnam and barricaded themselves in administration offices at Columbia University to protest.  They eventually entered the workforce and many found their way into federal agencies, running for office in the democratic party, becoming teachers and union leaders.  In these positions, these former protestors became crucial to the subversion of every institution in the United States.  The subversion worked because it was done by stealth, by purposely not identifying their goals as the destruction of America.  The other Baby Boomers not inclined towards the wholesale destruction of the US were working in many fields, raising families, and did not realize until it was almost too late what the subversives were accomplishing.  Now Americans are waking up to the totalitarian structures that have been put in place to ensure “right think.”  We see how all our institutions have become perverse caricatures of their former selves. And we are ready to do everything we can to right this sinking ship of state.

Rowell:  This supposed cease fire deal follows the established pattern of previous failed ceasefire deals:  Hamas gets everything they want and Israel surrenders; but only after first giving Hamas humanitarian aid and releasing hundreds of Hamas murderers from Israeli prisons.  Israel would not even get all the hostages back before surrendering.  There is nothing in this deal that will lead to peace.  It is designed to perpetuate the war on Israel with help from the Hamas, the USA, Egypt, and Qatar.  That Biden can deliver this with a straight face shows his utter depravity.

Peloni:  Shaw’s analysis here, while accurate, does not draw the obvious conclusion of Biden’s utter betrayal of Israel and the Jewish people with his ruse to try to force Bibi’s hand to surrender to Hamas.  Indeed, Biden did more than lie, he acted in concert with Hamas to leverage pressure on Bibi to capitulate to a genocidal death cult which still holds as its primary focus, the further slaughter and destruction of both Israel and the Jewish people.  In doing so, he has made his position quite clear that he stands with Hamas and against Israel in this war.  While this is not the first time the American leadership has come to the defense and support of Hamas in innumerable ways, this was the most blatant and clear move made to try to place Israel’s leadership in a state of presumed checkmate.

While Bibi’s released statements over the weekend make Israel’s position quite clear, Bibi needs to put his voice behind those statements and reassure the people that he will not buckle to a minority support of his people for surrender  and that he will not capitulate to the ongoing American vice to save Iran and all its proxies from facing the consequence of having struck Israel in such a visceral and devastating manner as it did on October 7.  At Yad Vashem, Bibi spoke the words ‘Never again is now’ in English to make the point clear, and that point must once again be voiced to shout down the ambitions of our enemies which have been emboldened by Biden’s recent game of Bluff.

No Israeli would have come up with the egregious proposal Biden announced. Opinion.

On May 15, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav said that if no alternative to Hamas rule is presented for Gaza, only two options would remain: Hamas rule or Israeli military rule. “Both alternatives are bad,” he said.

“I will not agree to Israeli military rule in in Gaza, Israel must not establish civilian rule in Gaza…I call on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to make a decision and declare that Israel will not establish civilian control over the Gaza Strip and that Israel will not establish military governance in Gaza,” he said.

Under the guise of announcing a proposed ceasefire agreement in the Israel-Gaza war, Biden took to a podium in the White House state dining room at 1:30 p.m. on Friday. He began his statement not with details of the peace plan but rather with a lecture about how the “rule of law” prevailed in Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s case against Trump. “Donald Trump was given every opportunity to defend himself,” Biden said of his 2024 Republican presidential rival. “And after careful deliberation, the jury reached a unanimous verdict.  They found Donald Trump guilty on all 34 felony counts.”

Rowell:  I disagree with the author when he states that Zionism has exacerbated antisemitism.  Antisemitism predates Zionism.  Antisemitism is as old as scape-goating itself, a practice described in the Bible.  It is the means by which individuals place the blame on all Jews for their own failures, their own acts of destructiveness.  Zionism did not exacerbate this; antisemitism would have continued had there been no State of Israel in existence.  When progressive Jews blame Zionism for being a “colonial enterprise,” they are ignorant of history. They are using Zionism as a scapegoat, a way of saying “mea culpa” i.e. “We Jews are guilty of using our advantages at the expense of others.”  That is an expression of their neurosis.  In their desire to show “compassion” for others less fortunate, they feel the need to placate these others by diminishing the power of Jews and the State of Israel.  In addition they are carrying water for those who truly hate Jews.

Israelis are defending the West, which is essentially our own creation to the extent that the West is ultimately a product of Judaism and Christianity.

There are Jews apparently so ignorant of Judaism that they claim Zionism is not Judaism. They reject Zionism as if it was some sort of non-Jewish ideology. Therefore, in their ill-conceived conclusion, being “anti-Zionist” is not being anti-Jewish.

People have distorted the term “Zionism” by emphasizing the way early Zionists embraced socialism and ignoring the Biblical and rabbinic ideas pertaining to the centrality of the land of Israel in Judaism. Perhaps the mystical notion that prior to redemption a spiritual transformation of Israel must take place further removed the connection between redemption and homecoming.

Rowell:  A US State Department Fact Sheet on US Security Cooperation with Israel (19 October 2023) has buried within it a description of a 10 year MOU (2019-2028) that provides for billions of dollars of military assistance to Israel provided that Israel purchase these missile defense and other programs from the US.   “…through Off Shore Procurement (OSP).  Via OSP the current MOU allows Israel to spend a portion of its FMF on Israeli-origin rather than U.S.-origin defense articles.  This was 25 percent in FY 2019 but is set to phase-out and decrease to zero in FY 2028.”  This means Israel agreed to purchase almost all the military supplies and programs from the US through 2028.  In 2019, Israeli military procurement leaders who signed this agreement did not envision that in four years time, Israel would suffer the most devastating attack since the Holocaust, and the signers also did not know the extent to which her sometime ally, the US, would turn against her.  But being responsible for national security, they should have considered all possible future ramifications.

But this is nothing new. They have been lying since October 7th — and way before then as well.
