On June 20, 2025, President Donald Trump authorized the most consequential military action of his second presidency: U.S. B-2 stealth bombers dropped massive bunker-buster bombs on Iran’s nuclear facilities, including the heavily fortified Fordo site buried 300 feet beneath a mountain. This action, while controversial, was both necessary and overdue.

We cannot afford to be naïve. The nations of the world function with self-interest as their first priority. It could not be otherwise. Underlying that self-interest are complex, frequently hidden, motivations.
And yet, as we say, yesh g’vul. There is a limit.
Factored into the calculus of national self-interest there should be a stand against evil: a readiness to act against elements that lack respect for human life, undercut basic human liberties and embrace obscene acts of violence.

This isn’t some sudden rebirth of Arab nationalism—it’s China pulling the strings.
Peloni: This was an outcome which became evident in the early months of the war, and became even more publicly clear following Netanyahu having to tell Pres. Biden that Israel would fight with their fingernails if needed to win this war. Well, today, Israel is not fighting with fingernails, but the controlled environment of Israel’s defenses which exists in outsourcing its defense industry oversees, even to an ally, still exists. All nations have interests, and to the point that these interests overlap, alliances are formed. Yet, as is evident in Trump’s declaration that Qatar is a great allly, and the UAE’s threat over Israel extending sovereignty to its heartlands within its own borders, a nation’s sovereignty must be understood to be tied to its degree of independence. The shift of support or even toleration of Israel and Jews around the world following October 7, even among former allies and safehavens in the Diaspora, demonstrates the need of an independent Israel, capable of making the choices needed to carryout its raison d’tre of choosing the fate of its own people.

I was raised in a conservative Jewish household, married a Jewish woman, raised three Jewish girls, and now have five Jewish grandchildren. During a four-decade career in medicine, our family was active in the large Jewish community of Cleveland, which was (and remains) very pro-Israel. Yet during this period, if you had given me a quiz on the history of Israel or the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict (IPC), I would have flunked. I was busy seeing patients, writing books on medical topics, teaching. It was only after retirement and three trips to Israel that I became knowledgeable about this history, and began to take note of the range of Jewish opinions about the long-standing IPC.
Peloni: Many interesting revelations/speculations in this discussion.
Peloni: Qatar is and always has been an abject enemy of Israel. They fund Hamas, protect their leadership, and promote terrorism around the globe. But they also fund specifically anti-Western and anti-American themes as well, not the least of which include the antisemitic prospects on US colleges and the antisemitic protests which the Trump administration is trying to shut down. It would be best if the US acknowledged these facts as real and acted upon them as Israel has done, rather than shielding Qatar from the consequences of its anti-Western.

Incidentally, a man of considerably high accomplishment, Elon Musk who follows my work, just let it be known that in 1900 white people (aka, the melanin deprived being cancelled for the crime of having been born smart, accomplished, and good looking) constituted 36% of the global population.
Peloni: The indoctrination on a societal basis against the Jews in both Nazi Germany and the Islamonazi Arab states/organizations is certainly more than mere coincidence with the ability of the perpetrators of such barbarism as took place both during the Holocaust and on October 7. Yet, recalling that thousands of Gazans willingly walked the distance from their homes to the somewhat distant Kibbutzim which surrounded Gaza, just so that they might take a role in sharing in that barbarism draws a significant distinction between these horrors which were separated by some 8 decades. So too, does the fact that there is yet to be a single Righteous Gentile to be found among the Gazan community to compare to the many examples of heroism in the lands controlled and conquered by the Nazis.
